It's weird, but Gametrailers has almost always been in my "agree" column with their game reviews.
Even when they don't like something that I personally do, they still manage to hit on all the things that matter to me about the game. I liked PDZ, but I still agree with every bit of their review.
To sum up: That review gives me additional faith that I will really really like this game.
Every time I see Mirror's Edge on the forums, it makes me want to try the demo again.
Not because I thought it was awesome, but because I can't comprehend why everyone thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread.
I used to think jumping in first person sucked and after playing the demo I haven't really changed my mind. I still have problems guesstimating height, distance and positioning when jumping, like I do in must jump heavy shooters, leading to many, many falls to the unforgiving concrete below.
What makes Mirror's Edge so different, exactly? Maybe I just don't get it, but playing the demo and falling to my death multiple times, turned this into a non-purchase for me.

I just ran through (hah! a PUN!) the first chapter.
It's fun!
If you like what you saw in the demo it appears to be more of the same.
It does however appear to be kinda short.
Running by a guard at full speed and disarming them is AWESOME fun though, but the timing at full speed is a bit tougher.

Odd thing for me is that I don't play first person games because of motion sickness, I dislike platforming games in general and any game that has a timed jump sequence I usually have my boyfriend bypass for me because I'm so rubbish.
Yet...
I absolutely love this game. Oddly enough it doesn't make me ill (haven't been brave enough to turn off the dot). And I've had no problems timing any of the jumps. The game is fantastic because altho there are a lot of games out there I really enjoy, this stands out as being an experience. There's a level of immersion that's unlike any other. I don't know if it's the game play, art direction, colors or music; or maybe a combination of it all. All I know is that the game puts me into a really good mood when I play. (And time trial is ridiculously addictive.)
Maybe you should load up the demo again and give it another go. Once you get the timing of the jumps down and start to string moves together you'll probably be hooked too.

If this is supposed to be fun, I'm completely content to suck at it. Maybe it's the fact that I haven't played any FPS religiously since Goldeneye.
It's just doesn't seem to be my genre and seeing that I have orientation issues in regular life, it makes any first person game a bit of a chore to play.

Nope, that's not it. I hate FPS with a vengeance ... so much indeed, that I have played none of the big titles that came out since ... oh ... the original Unreal Tournament. Still, I love this game to death. Maybe because it's not a first person SHOOTER, because that would be boring.

What this guy said...
The only FPS I've ever beaten was Bioshock, and it took me nearly a month on easy to finish it. First Person Shooters are just too hard for me, but, for whatever reason, this game really clicks.
Has anyone in the USA gotten a copy yet? I'm going to call my local EbStop in 20 minutes when they open to see what's up.
Play review is up although it only says what we all knew already...
Man, he basically spends two paragraphs of a one-page review jerking off over Faith.
Oh man, I knew this was Dave Halverson before I even clicked the link. For reference, he gave the shittastic Golden Axe: Beast Rider a 9, and I think we can all figure out why:
Alas, there are a few flies circling the ointment, but they never land. Tyris is a beautiful heroine; so beautiful, in fact, that the absence of dynamic animation is all the more puzzling. Her distinctive walk and run, separate animations for every beast (and there really isn’t anything more intoxicating than a beautiful half-naked woman riding bareback on a snarling beast) and superb battle movement make the flat stance on sloped surfaces and steps a real head-scratcher. Her boobs are motionless until you reach Fiends Path, too, after which they have subtle natural animation, but I’m guessing that’s due to the detail on her various tops. Some flies, eh? Damn limited boob animation!
So anyway, Mirror's Edge: Cannot freaking wait. I need to wait for Amazon to ship my copy but that will hopefully give me time to finish up Gears 2 this week so I can burn through ME and be consumed by time trials.

FPS aren't exactly my cup of tea, so it's not that I was expecting a first person shooter or anything like that. It's not the first person view that bothers me either. I mean, I'm having no trouble playing fallout 3 in first person view, but that's because it doesn't rely on precision jumping.
I thought the idea of parkour style gameplay, might be interresting at least, if they got it right.
Unfortunately it feels as frustrating and awkward for me, as it did the first time the original Turok did it all wrong. People seem to like it though and watching someone play looks awesome. Hopefully one of my friends will pick it up and I can watch them play through it for a bit.

Play Review: "I am the new enlightened male. Also, I have a massive Asian fetish."
Faith is hot in this game. But that's because she is hot, and it's stupid to nancy around saying she gives his brain a boner just because she wears a halter top and cargo pants instead of a latex suit made of her own hair. All that "independent" talk is just incidental to that.
This game is really bringing out these reviewers' inner pretentious-expository-writing-douchebag. Next we're going to hear how the game is a parable for our time, and then I will go insane.
This is like the sweetest post I've seen in a long time.
I would dare to call it a testament to the human spirit. Read this post and be glad you are alive.
My one concern is that the GameTrailers review said its pretty short with the main draw being time trials once the game is over (I'm not THAT interested in time trials). It may be something I Goozex then later down the line. Maybe by early next year with my current spot in line? I'm fine with that.
Okay, far be it from me to say someone is Not Doing It Right, and I can understand if you just don't like the game, but: Really, ArsTechnica?
I hate to be the guy to suggest a Sonic the Hedgehog-style departure in interstitial levels, but perhaps in the next game we could play a few levels as one of Faith's friends, who is perhaps better with firearms? Make a few strong stop-and-pop levels between Faith's running, and you can keep the interest of the gamer for much longer without the sameness or the brevity of this title.

To be fair, minimalist and utilitarian character designs like that aren't all that common in games these days, particularly for the ladies
Left 4 Dead anyone? I think the heroine in that game looks much more realistic and down to earth than Faith. When I see Faith, I see Asian pop star. Which, you know, I'm okay with since I like Asian pop and the game itself seems awesome, but it feels rather hypocritical to praise Mirror's Edge for avoiding the whole sex appeal approach to female characters when it didn't; it just replaced the typical Western ideal with an Asian one.
There was actually a thing on Kotaku (SO IT MUST BE LIES AND TYPOS!) where someone had redrawn Faith as if she were designed to appeal to an Asian market. She actually looked a bit different to the current design.
I tried the demo on the PS3 last night, and it was fun, but it had a terrible amount of aliasing and it looked like it had lower resolution textures than what I've seen in the videos, although maybe the aliasing was just making it hard to see. How is the Xbox 360 demo in comparison?

The 360 version has 2x aa. Other than that they are pretty similiar.
The only thing holding me back from buying this over Gears of War 2 or Resistance is how short it's supposed to be. 60$ for a short game is tough to swallow.

6-8 hours seems to be the consensus, though the number becomes much more if you're into time trials and such.

Around 6 hours, give or take, to run through the story mode on one difficulty. It doesn't bug me since I plan on replaying anyway, but I can understand why people might not be jazzed about it.

I'm not fussed about the length. We just finished GoW2 in about 8 hours and have no interest in online play. So we're done with it already and have no desire to replay it but it was still enjoyable.
It really boils down to your type of game-play. Do you spend countless hours in multi-player mode? If so GoW2 or R2 might be a better value but doesn't necessarily mean you'll get more enjoyment per se. But if you're the type that likes platforming games (imo platformers have high replay value) and if you like Time Trials then it's really not that short. Also factor in the DLC that's coming up.
AFAIK the only thing that's been said is that there's talk of exclusive DLC for the PS3 version. My bet would be special time trials or something akin to the challenge rooms for PS3 Bioshock.
[strike]I recall rumour milling about the PS3 version getting exclusive DLC content, but they may have just scrubbed that in favour of milking more out of the sequels.[/strike] Beat'd

Looking for a DX:HR OnLive code for my kid brother.
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
The bag is pretty nice. It's decently sized, probably big enough to use as a school bag if you're not carrying 2-3 hardcover text books and there are 6 pouches on the exterior of the bag. Also, it has the option of wearing via shoulder strap and handles. Not bad for a pre-order bonus, and the logo is pretty inconspicuous. The yellow (it is like radioactive bright) will probably grab more attention than the logo.
Now, the question is, do I want to keep the game. I am hesitant simply because it is super short, and I don't really have much drive to do the time trials. I loved the demo, but really, my $60 could be better spent elsewhere.

Play it, beat it today, if the time trials don't grab you, then sell or Goozex it.

Yeah, that's probably a good idea. Worse comes to worse I get like $50 worth of Goozex points, or could probably shill it on eBay for around that. So I paid $15 (after taxes) for a pretty keen bag, and a Mirror's Edge "rental." :P
