So what's up with the continuity in this one? I remember Natla from the first TR game way back in the day, and I largely haven't paid much attention to the series since then...has she popped up in the other games after TR1? I noticed her being mentioned during the demo for this.

In the old games, there's pretty much no real continuity. We learn from Chronicles that, yes, all of these happened in the same universe and timeline, but outside of artifacts from previous missions being seen in her mansion, they have nothing to do with each other.
So definitely yay for sequels that feel like sequels. This is why I loved Quantum of Solace when I saw it this weekend.

Awesome. TR1 was always my favorite (and from what I can tell, that feeling is near universal until Legend), so it's nice to see Natla popping up again.
And fuck, that *IS* a good trailer. My favorite Lamb song too.
I don't know how I avoided it for this long. I just finished the Japan level last night and did some more exploring around Croft Manor.
Very fun, and even the story bits are impressive at times, like that flashback for example. Good stuff. Thanks for raising my awareness on this, I probably wouldn't have picked up the game otherwise.

Welcome to the fold. I added Underworld to my Goozex queue this morning, so who knows when I'll get it but it'll give me time to finish my backlog in the meantime.
Sucks 'cause my cell phone's antennae was lost in a shuffle last night, so I didn't know if I got "the call." But I stopped by this morning and they will indeed have it tomorrow morning.
I have my doubts the Wii version of this will be better than the PS360 version. I mean, Crystal Dynamics is directly handling the PS360 version and god knows who is doing the Wii version.
I would bet on it being Buzz Monkey Software. They are the guys who did the Gamecube and PSP ports of Legend, and the PSP and Wii ports of Anniversary. Legend on Gamecube is a decent port, but the others have some problems.
PSP Legend: It does have decently tight controls, but the graphics are awful, much worse than most PSP games, and the camera system is just dumb--you hold down square to adjust it, but square is also the action button, so you have to stand perfectly still to be able to adjust the camera. And sometimes it won't want to adjust, especially if you're near something that the action button normally activates. This results in a lot of frustration in some levels, especially Kazakhstan and England.
PSP Anniversary: Nice visuals, nearly PS2 quality, but the controls are slippery, and the camera is even twitchier than it is in the Wii version, especially when you get near walls. They did move the camera to the shoulder buttons, which is better than what they did before, but it's hard to adjust with any precision. Some parts of the game are almost harder than they are in the Wii version (St. Francis's Folly) because Lara will go off course in mid-air and plummet to her death. It's hard to describe, but the PC version didn't have these issues for me, which makes me think it's the port.
Wii Anniversary: This one's pretty much been covered.
I can't find who's doing the Wii port of Underworld online, though. There doesn't seem to be much coverage of the Wii version. So I would rent or check reviews first. If they did away with the awful camera system from Wii Anniversary, it could still be decent.
Finished Legend last night. Good game. Has some hiccups, like the bike sequences, and I thought the bosses weren't all that great. But everything else was really good.
Re-played the Underworld demo after having played Legend, and holy crap it's so much better. The improvements and changes are very apparent, and I'm glad it seems to continue the story from Legend on some level.
Legend on Gamecube is a decent port, but the others have some problems.
I've played Legend on PS2 and Gamecube.
It suffered a bit on the 'cube from having less buttons on the controller (no room for a 'reset camera' button, the triggers requiring to click to use) but it's was a quite good port. Smoother framerate, dark areas were actually dark and the Flashback sequence, rather then a grain effect and sepia toning, actually had a lot of colour fiddling for a much more striking, simpler times, effect.
IGN gave it 7.5, mostly on technical issues: bad framrate, texture pop-in, clipping errors, bad camera. They said the 360 version had a slightly better framerate than PS3, as well as Achievements (no Trophies) and DLC is only for the 360.
It's unfortunate that there's so many tech issues with the game, given how they're probably working with the same engine as in Legend/Anniversary, but I don't think it'll stop me from buying it this weekend.
Every Legacy of Kain game (ok maybe not blood omen 2)

Good point Renzo. Need to scrap TR and get back on the fucking vampire trail before any other of hte classic voice actors in it die.
Anyone had any hands on with the Wii iteration of the game?
I basically quite liked the treatment of Anniversary, and was prepared for this game on that basis. The lack of official reviews even at this date is worrisome, and the only real quick hands on impression I've read from someone online basically trashes the game. Apart from visuals that aren't even up to the par of Anniversary, it is missing many of the combat options from the HD versions of the game (dual targeting and melee attacks), and parts of the game have omitted enemies and environmental dangers.
But, I only have one person's hearsay on all of that, and I'm very curious for more opinions and impressions. With the likes of the Wii KOF Collection and Chrono Trigger DS due out soon, that $40 could be better spent if it turns out that the Wii TRU is indeed something to avoid.
I don't know how you could take the Legend engine and make this game so painful to play. I actually got motion sick and nearly threw up while playing. That hasn't happened to me since I played Wolfenstein 3D for 3 hours straight when I was a kid. Including games ranging from Doom to Descent to Mario 64 to Mirror's Edge.
It's not just the camera that contributes... Lara jumps horribly and suddenly from hotspot to hotspot, and the sudden jumps the camera makes to keep up are what I suspect jar me so. You'll press a button, say "use," and lara will slide unnaturally and far too quickly into place to play the animation. Hell, you can press "jump" and sometimes she'll slide through the air, again unnaturally and far too quicly, to wherever you were planning on jumping to. A lot of the animations don't blend well. Just... ow. The "pushing foliage out of the way" thing that has been mentioned is really cheesy, and amounts to iffy collision detection triggering canned and choppy animations. Assassin's Creed this is not.
On the bright side, Lara's looking hotter than ever, and the environments are pretty. That said, I'll be sad to return this to EB for a fraction of what I paid for it a night before... but happy to pick up Valkyria or COD5 instead. Anyone in Toronto want a barely-used copy for 40 bucks? PS3.

I'm curious about this as well, because I might be able to play it on my new PC, but on the Wii it could play more smoothly or something and I don't have a PS3 or 360, or the money to buy them.
I'm enjoying it quite a bit, although I'm stuck at a point where even knowing what I need to do, I can't seem to pull it off, and the motions themselves make little sense.
I like the feeling of raiding fairly elaborate and pretty "tombs", but Shoany is right about the shitty camera.
So I know asking this makes me a big, blubbery girlie man, but does this have Legend's unlockable outfits? I don't know why, but there was something very compelling about being able to select what outfit and in what color variant I'd be wearing. Tropical jungle? Why, yes, I'll be wearing the hot pink arctic camo. Exploring the Himalayas? Red torn-up evening gown it is!
1up.com gave it a 8/10. Like IGN, they were bothered by bugs and the camera, and complained that the game ends somewhat abruptly (though not as a cliffhanger). They say the environments are better than ever, and it's worth playing for fans, but they expected more. They did mention that the 360 is getting 2 DLC levels, one at Christmas and one next year.

Pay once, download as often as you like to as many computers as you like, as long as you're on your account and Steam is installed. You can delete stuff and redownload it again for no charge, as many times as you want.
Man, I don't know about this game. 1up's Nick Suttner said it ended really abruptly, without a final boss/climax or anything, and it's only around 6 hours long. Add the bugs and whatnot, and it sounds as though it was rushed out for christmas. Normally the length wouldn't bother me, but it makes the whole two extra DLC level deal (which is 360 exclusive for now) sound shady as hell.
I think I'll wait with picking this up.
Cherrn on
All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.

I'm waiting to find out from people on this board whether or not these "reviewers" are correct. I trust experiences from other gamers more. Not a reflection on reviewers, but more on me.
PS3 reactions, specifically. (I guess I'd also like to know whether or not a person would recommed this over Uncharted.)

Loving it so far, and the game just gave me a fucking jump scare.
Like, I haven't been affected by a jump scare since RE2.
