I try not to dwell on my past too much but the recent news post about Child's Play made me pause and reflect. When I was 5 I lost my left hand and ear to burns and was hospitalized off and on for years. During that time a few relevnt things happened that I thought you guys would appreciate.
First was the involvement of the Make-a-wish foundation in my original stay. When I was still bedbound in Upstate University Hospital (Syr, NY) they gave me a heaping box of GI Joe and He-Man toys. I honestly didn't register at age 5 how important those toys were but looking back, they really gave me a way to interact with other children and tons of hours of entertainment during a very hard time. withourt their charity I would've been stuck in a burn ward for months with nothing but IV's to play with. As an ADD kid the thought frightens me.
Later in my recovery I had what turned out to be a defining time in the Boston, Mass Shriners' Childrens hospital for PT and sugery. I look upon that stay as the worst of my hospital time, mostly hours of grueling physical labor. But there was, as usual, a silver lining. In the space referred to jokingly as a "room" that I spent my down-time in there was a TV and a NES. I hadn't played video games much before that, and the games gave me something to take my mind away from the pain and exhaustion. It was just after that trip that my father bought me my first console and I have gone on to own virtually every gaming system released in the US since 1986.
I never really felt the need to post here before, preferring instead to observe and enjoy your work. but I couldn't let another CP season pass without letting you guys know from a patient's perspective that the work you do is hugely impactful. Other PA fans, this goes for you too. Without dedicated givers supporting our hospitals, they become wharehouses of the sick and wounded. But through the generosity of everyday people they can be transformed into houses of healing.
Thanks for the vine guys, keep up the great work.

just so you know, gabe and tycho don't read the forums, but this is a cool story anyway
That sounds like it would be extremely difficult.

Indeed. Onass, you should write them emails directly so they know how much you appreciate it, so they don't miss out on your story.

i thiiiiiink i'm also volunteering at a toy drive.. i applied, but haven't heard back yet
I was expecting a Bel Air that entire first post.
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
Extreme dick control
that is an incredible thread title
i was not completely wrong
OP is part of the people that got dealt bad...hands? some of us get raw deals in some areas like OP but the dude abides.
never know when you could use some cash
Shoulder buttons are knee operated mostly, not easy. A few games have died to overuse of L buttons.
Me Too I also still live near Upstate too. best children's hospital on the east Coast. Do you play wow?
On a sappy, potentially drunk, note, thanksfor the response guys and girls. Kinda figured I would get flamed for a post like this.
but really there's no chance anyone would flame a thread with such an excellent title
