I honestly think the weapons are very well balanced. I do think that on the tank fight that the autoshottie is easily the most powerful and useful weapon, but otherwise, I mean, crap.
The autoshottie is so good for hordes at short range, it's hard to even imagine something topping it.
The assault rifle is a headshot machine even at long range, the crosshair is so small. Just aim at around head height, and lay down the suppressing fire, boom, no more horde.
And the rifle? Sweep the hordes to half strength and take out the specials without even needing to move. The only drawback is if you get overzealous, because for all its advantages, you CAN NOT use it on the move.
I love the dynamic that the heavy weapons create, and a team of all autoshotties is simply not going to make it through as easily as a balanced team.
I was just daydreaming about reskinning all of the characters to make them Marvel Universe people.
The obvious one is Tank being Hulk
But what about smoker being some sort of venom, carnage or spiderman?
Boomer being the blob?
hunter beings something like wolverine? (although it's be hard to make it look like him without claws or characteristic hair)
Witches are Deathstrike
The survivors would have to be various marvel characters who don't do much besides shoot things, like
Francis as Punisher
Bill as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Nicholas Fury
Louis would make a decent Marvels Bullseye
Zoey could possibly pass as Sharon Carter (SHIELD's Agent 13)
I'm just spit balling, any thoughts or better character revisions. Bonus points if you make the teams make sense (my current idea has Wolverine on the same side as the blob, wtf).
Well instead of Wolverine you could have Sabretooth.
And instead of having Bullseye, perhaps the Ultimate version of Hawkeye. Much less likely to kill humans instead of zombies.
On second though, Zoey might make a better Domino then Sharon Carter, and it's slightly less obscure.
If you need help brainstorming, finger arond in here
Zoey is Jubilee.
While Zoey would make a good match for Jubilee in the looks department, the fact she is running around with a gun kills the similarity.
I think I'm going to experiment with making skins. (I looked around and all of the hulks weren't green enough in my opinion)
Has anyone here made skins before? If I fuck up can I just uninstall and reinstall?
I gave up. I can't find the damn vtf files. I downloaded some remakes from FPSbanana and I re-remade them. So far, comic hulk and I'm about halfway done with a domino skin for Zoey (done with the face but I'll need to make the clothes more assassin like). To bad I can't figure out how to import them into the game files so I can use them.
I'm still loking for an answer here, but it may be because the answer is more complex then expected:
does anyone know where the player models are? I wanna play with them in 3ds max..
All the files are in the stea,/steamapps/common/left 4 dead/left4dead directory. You will need the latest version of GCFScape to get the models out of the .vpk archives. Just as a heads up, last time I tried to extract them for Gmod, they had the mdl files, but no textures; the models were invisible.
Do the vtf files I'm creating go into these vpk files? I believe the vtf files are the textures you are missing. I havent been able to find there location in "steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead/left4dead directory" so I've just been editing the edited ones from FPSbanana. After I get done making Domino Zoey, I'll make Punisher Francis or Nick Furry Bill or Bullseye Louis. I'm not looking forward to editing the infected because they all have characteristic shapes that will be hard to make look good with a less deformed skin (e.g. making boomer into the blob wil be difficult because of the mass growing out of his head.)
Had that problem a week or two ago. You can try deleting a specific file, which should prompt it to update. That did the trick for me.
What file do I have to delete to get it to start up again?
I don't remember if this is the one, so your best course of action would be to move/rename the file in question, but according to a few sources, try clientregistry.blob
ed: Which is located in the Steam folder (C:\Program Files\Steam or wherever you have it installed).

You are so right. There is no need to nerf the autoshotgun at all.

Don't know if anyone has posted this yet. The people modding the dead before dawn campaign have released a video of the second level. It looks fun, but extremely long as well.
Also, as amazing as the hunting rifle is, my ping doesn't really allow for it much of the time. Sadness. Shots will hit and just simply do no damage and yeah.
Because the server is always full when I feel like playing.

There are pros and cons of each weapon type. Autoshotty has its moments but I find myself frequently frustrated by the slow reload times or worse when it gets "jammed" and it plays the cocking animation while there are 20 zombies on top of you. Because of this 10 rounds goes too fast for me. However, when it is fully loaded it deals so much damage very quickly. I tend to stick with the AR because headshot headshot headshot reload headshot headshot headshot. The downside is that you have to aim more carefully and it doesn't have any mores stopping power than a pistol to anywhere but the head. HR will blow off heads and limbs through multiple targets but again limited to 10 rounds although reloading is decent, but you have to stand still to hit anything so run and gun is out. The Uzi fires fast but has no real stopping power, dual pistols are more effective which is strange considering they're both 9mm. The pump shotty is just crap, though. Unless you're point blank the scatter will miss targets running towards you and with only 8 rounds you will find yourself swinging more often than shooting. If I owned a shotgun with that much spread I would return it to the store where I bought it for a refund. I can understand game balance, but this is stupid. Lower the damage and bring the spread back to reality.
It would be game breaking, but I would give me (virtual) left nut for one of these:

Looks neat but I wonder how hard getting the director to work with new maps will be
From what other people have said on here the AID will auto set most things throughout the level. From the look of people using CS and TF2 maps that could be true.

ping shouldn't affect that though
(i think it is that you suck)
I could see your point if I didn't suck.
But seriously, I don't really quite understand why it happens. 80% of the time the shot hits just fine, but that crucial 20% is enough to pose a real danger. On single player I'm fine, so it must be connection based.

Yes, that's exactly what happens. Seizes up for a few seconds at a time. It's rather bad when, say, a hunter has just pounced or a horde has just spawned. It's also just really obnoxious.
How does one kill a tank? I was playing the greenhouse stage and when it would spawn on the second section it would always whoop me up. Tried four times. Shot it, threw molotovs at it, not sure what else. Thing just ran around on fire forever and did us all in over and over.
knapp is insane. but i remember seeing somewhere that the guy shoots like 1000 shells a day or something stupid like that. also i love how the vid cuts out at 'oh no... oh shi---'
