My wife asked her parents for a Wii...and I need to figure out a game or two to get her. She's not a huge gamer in any sense, but she got sucked into the Wii hype. I'm guessing that she'd probably like Mario Kart, Smash Bros., etc, but definitely not anything like Metroid or Zelda. I really have no knowledge about Wii games, so could someone help me out?

Wii Sports and Wii Play are about all my wife will play. I may check out Wii Music.
If you're having a hard time deciding on a(nother) box game, you might also look into some of the Virtual Console or WiiWare games. I know it doesn't seem very exciting to unwrap a Wii Points card, but it's not bad when you can go "I got you some Wii Points so you can get games A, B, and C which I think you'll love!" or go "I got you some Wii Points! Let's go through the shop together!" If she likes puzzles, the Dr. Mario or Tetris versions on WiiWare have been fairly well-received (if you get a balance board, there's a mode in Tetris where you can use it as your controller, which is hilarious to watch). World of Goo is fantastic and also a lot of fun.
The Wii was my first console and I'm not a big gamer (by not a big gamer I mean not at all). To be honest, I like the bright, flashy, silly games the best. I love Smash Bros but my best friend who has a Wii (also a girl) hates it and will never own it. We both love Mario Kart (only with the wheel) and Wii Music. I'm a big fan of Samba De Amigo and will probably get De Blob and Boom Blox in the near future.
Feck Animal Crossing though. I haven't touched my DS version in months and will probably sell it soon. It just got boring, however, there's a thread filled with people who love it in Glossolalia so I guess some people like it after 10 minutes.
You can also get her Wii points so she can download games. In the Wii store they have a lot of classic Nintendo games.
Mario Galaxy's pretty easy to get into, as is Mario Kart. Got both my sisters into them, and neither of them game much otherwise.

not so much into mario kart and definitely not into smash bros.
Good luck finding it, tho.
One of the Animal Crossing games possibly? What does she enjoy?
