I got lucky in just about every way it's possible to get lucky in the Subway on Expert - got the special weapons early, downed the Tank after it had killed everyone else, avoided the Witch, fought off the Hordes - and then died in the final ambush, in part because one of the AI's shot the gas can near the door and lit me on fire just in time for the horde to rush in.
Everyone who says Expert is too eeeaaassyy and oh God we need an insaaane difficulty level can just fuck right on off.
Also, whenever I try to join a game I keep getting the error message "failed to find game for [unknown]." This happened for TF2, but it's a hell of a lot more annoying here. Anyone know why it's happening?
The Left 4 Dead version of my High School (from a Senior Project I had to do) is working somewhat, some textures aren't working, regardless of being custom. Maybe that's my own fault. Oh well, I think I'll wait for the Left 4 Dead SDK to come out.

Um, when does that come out again?
They hope for it to come out along with the game.
Please refer to the "Valve Time to Real Time" chart for when that will actually occur.

The most boring games are when everything goes right. Although it is fun throwing a molotov on your teammates when you're near the finaldemo saferoom.
Don't do that. I would be so pissed if someone did that to me.
Griefers are never fun, but in this game they're just uncool.
The mass-TK spree at the end of the demo is pretty much de rigeur - it's either have fun TKing each other, then vote to restart the campaign and play it again, or complete the demo, watch the fucking long ass cutscene, and end up back in the lobby where you just want to start playing again and hope you didn't lose the slot on that dedicated server you poached.
tl;dr we won't be doing that shit in retail, except for maybe Fuga, cause he's a dick anyways :P

Wait why not? It's either you kill everyone and vote to restart the campaign, or you're forced to watch the stupid demo movie and restart the campaign anyway.

Oh, you mean after the mob is dead. Yeah, that's fine. I was thinking more like someone chucking a molotov as everybody's prepping for the ambush.
Also, is it just me or is that minigun effectively useless? It takes too long to spin up and you're open from too many different directions.
After playing the demo a million times I think that the minigun is useless. Since for the most part you can just build a wall of fire around everything and snipe any boss infected that appear.

It's just you, because you're doing it wrong. Have someone covering the sides and one person watching the hole, and you can tear shit up. Of course, the fire should take care of 90% of the bastards if you put the gascans in the right spot and/or add some Molotov to the mix.

I think the only thing I'd like to see implemented in Left 4 Dead is the ability to have spectators. Now I know this seems stupid, but it feels incredibly bad when we have to leave a friend or two out because we're full. I think it would be nice to allow friends to spectate and watch and join in on laughing at our miserable failures, perhaps maybe even switch people in and out or something. Actually I think Source TV could do this, but I haven't checked if Left 4 Dead is capable of that yet.
That's pretty much my only suggestion for this game.

I actually really like this idea. Plus you can join into your friends game and harass somebody to leave.
I love this option.

I agree that would be cool. Because when I logged in yesterday, all my friends were playing Gears, and that made me realize that there's no way we're all going to be able to play together, which kinda sucks.
Unless there's a mode that allows more than four people?
But think about it this way: spectating consumes a decent amount of resources, so if a server is geared toward only 4 (or 8) players, any more spectators is a nontrivial extra load.

Versus mode allows 8 people.
Think of it as competitive L4D, four guys take on the role of the survivors, the other four get to take on the role of Boss infected (the director occasionally decides when it's time for a Tank to appear and asks one of the players if they want to be it). The survivors have to get as far as possible as fast as possible, and are given a point score related to this. At the end of the round, the teams switch, and now the former survivors have to prevent the other team from beating their score.
Teamwork is essential whichever side you choose, and there's bound to be much fun to be had by being a devious git and completely messing up the survivors escape plans.
So the demo keeps on crashing on me. Appears people with 64-bit Vista are getting the shaft. Anyone experiencing this, or know a potential solution?
Is it a crash with looping sound or something else?
If it crashes with looping try to set sound acceleration to basic, that fixed a friend's 64-bit crashing issues.
I'm on 32 and run fine.
I fixed it by playing in windowed mode with no borders (emulates full screen). It seemed to only happen to me when alt-tabbing and yes it would freeze and loop sound. Vista 64 sp1. I have not had a problem since.

Are there regular zombies running around in versus too?
Oh yes, definitely. The director still has control of those. Player controlled infected however, are going to re-spawn much faster than they usually do in the standard co-op game.
I cannot kill the tank. One time I was low on health and ran back to the safe room. Low and behold, it came in and beat me to a pulp. I think the best place to fight the tank is in the area where you go down the first set of stairs and there are the two little kiosks and the gates. You can run around in circles and the tank can't get you. (unless you clip on the gate and can't go through)

You just need to work together to take it down. Also remember that the closer you are, the more damage your weapons do (not sure how this affects the sniper rifle). Generally the Tank will focus on one player and the rest of the team can really lay down some firepower whilst this is happening. If you need to divert the Tank from attacking someone, usually a good solid melee or two will make it angry at you and make you its new target.
Beat my first game on expert today. I thought the demo had 2 levels you could play? Am I wrong? Is there anything other than No Mercy?
Those were two levels. Two levels from the No Mercy campaign. Well actually it was more like 1.5 levels, there's more that second level but they ended it early by putting a saferoom there. IIRC the No Mercy campaign has four or five levels total.
I've gotten ambushed in that part of the subway almost without fail on Expert - the zombies all rush down the staircases. A single well-placed molotov takes them all out, but it's hard going without molotovs and a pain in the ass regardless.
The only good thing about rushes is that they usually mean a little breather immediately afterwards (unless you run into a Boomer and then it's WHOOPS SECOND VERSE SAME AS THE FIRST).

I've found a good way to kill the tank if you come across it in that area. Let it chase you up the stairs to the subway cars, then run around the railing and jump back down the stairs. If you don't fuck up (like I did, both times) you should be able to take it out by repeating this. Bonus for molotovs first. Also this apparently aggravates team members who are dead.

There are 4 campaigns each with 5 connected maps.
There will be something like 10 of those maps that will be available for Multiplayer (Survivor Team vs Zombie Team), none of which will be the finales from any of the campaigns. They've also said that more of the maps will be adapted for multiplayer later on, and/or that new maps will eventually be released (at least for the PC).
Also remember there will be plenty of user-created levels post release. Since the AI director is in charge of spawning and controlling the experience, it should be easier to churn out quality levels without worrying about where to spawn and balance the enemies.

... Float + Buy More RAM, it's like two G&T memes meeting across the years.
We're still a few days away from the release date. Pre-loading probably won't even start until the day before.
Two levels, not two campaigns. The levels in question are the Apartments and the Subway (though apparently they were both shortened for the demo).

back into corner and melee. If you have just one more guy with you, the entire horde will eventually die to your magical fists of fury
