The Roommate and I want to split a console. 360 or ps3?
I seem to be leaning towards 360 while he wants a ps3 because with both our monies combined the hit would not be so bad. He argues that all the games that come out on 360 come out on PS3 anyways. I argue back that a few of the games that have come out on both such as the orange box and COD4 ran like crap on the ps3.
We are sort of at a deadlock..
Also we have 1080 tv and confused on the differences between the 360's normal, pro's and elites. Same thing of the ps3 version...

Do you want to play LBP or MGS4?
Nope
If you have enough money for a PS3 just buy 2 360s so you each have one.

Why we can share. There is only 1 61 inch HD TV in the house.
None of the 360s have technical differences. It's only a matter of what accessories come with the unit (HD size, cables, controllers) and what color plastic it's molded out of. Basically, find the balance between price point and accessories.
For the PS3, it's more confusing because there were a few hardware revisions that changed what the system could do, especially regarding backwards compatibility. I'm sure someone else knows all the variations by heart. They will be in shortly.
As for the choice, I don't know. If you want bluray or one systems's exclusives jump out to you, make the choice based on that. In general, both systems are equal. Xbox has better online but you have to pay, PS3 has Little Big Planet. Multiplatform titles are generally a wash.
Here's something more important: who gets the system when the year is over? One of you needs to be ready to buy the other out at half current market price of the system when the time comes to part ways. Agree on it and sign a fake little contract, even if it feels stupid to do so because this guy is your friend. You need to get that out of the way because it can become a problem, trust me. Do it before the system even gets there.

You'll be picking up a 360, then. I believe there was a recent thread about pro vs elite, but I have no idea where it went. I remember it was something about outputs that was most important.

We already got that out of the way sort of. One option is that we sale it on craigslist and split the money. The other is that one person pays a percent of the other person for it.
Yeah, don't think about the multiplats, think about the exclusives. Do you want to play Fable 2? GeoW2?
Shut up, yes you do. The idea that all 360 exclusives go to the PS3 anyways is so very wrong.
I do but I still have to convince the roommate
Does he want to play LBP and MGS4? It kind of sounded like his reason was "Well who cares about the 360 anyways the PS3 gets all the games" which is flat out wrong.
If he wants to play MGS4 and you want to play GeoW2 then there's a bit more of a dispute.
Sounds like there's a fundamental difference of opinion that you'll have to deal with first.
Are you looking for arguements to change his mind, is that what you're really after?
Frankly, when I compared both systems about a year or so ago (when did MGS4 come out?), comparing price points, differences in hardware, costs, wireless connectivity, online pricing...when it came down to it, the PS3 was a better value.
That's changed since the 360 dropped it's prices, sure...but at the time, the PS3 was a better value and I've not regretted it. I'll probably buy a 360 soon and started the aforementioned thread about Pro vs Elite so I'm not in your same situation.
The biggest thing though is that it really appears you two just want different things. Hope you can compromise somehow.
PS3. Multiple profiles/accounts that can share most DLC. Free online, since you're poor enough to have to decide to split a console to begin with. ;p
Just to make sure this thread stays truthful you can have multiple gamertags on a single 360 and all of them have access to the DLC as long as it was purchased on that console.

it's simple. If you like games that are fun, buy a xbox 360.
I know, it's seriously a strange feeling. I'm disappointed that the Wii hasn't become the new PS2 as far as RPGs. I mean, it's cheap to develop for... And has a huge audience. What's the deal?
But yeah... The 360 has the best RPGs and Shooters at the moment.
Seriously, don't "split" purchases with anyone you're not planning to marry.
Its not going to be a problem. It is only about 125 each and we have no problem selling it at the end of the year.
You're going to get like 60 bucks for it...total. I guess you could find a buyer yourself, but that's trouble and with the price down to 200 and the fact that 360s have a bad rep for quality control, it's more trouble than it's worth. You'll probably get 100$ for it, 50 each.
I guess you could make an agreement where the person who wants to keep it pays the other guy half of the price of the console, but you could both want to keep it and it's all just awkward. Plus there's the issue of games, are you going to be splitting those, if not who has rightful dibs when it's his game in the console, etc. HDD space is another issue.
But if you must, buy a 360 and Left 4 Dead, and play splitscreen.
Before I moved out of my parents house, I shared my console with my brother and sister. There were never any complications... As long as everyone knew their place in the chain of command, in which I was the equivalent of a God-King. And that when I descended from the heavens the controller should be handed to me without ushering a single word.
So it's perfectly possible to share a game console.
Now he doesn't want a 360 because he said he could get 90% of the games on his PC.
Man, just be honest with him and ask him. "What are you expecting out of the PS3?" If it's incompatible with what you want from a console... Eff him, get separate consoles.

He is deadlock on a ps3 now. He wants Resistance 2...

Red'd for lies and me bitching about my consol.
Fuck launch 360 that has already gotten the extra heatsinks so that it won't RRoD again, but still has no fucking HDMI out port...
Jerks. Want me to pay $100 for a MadCatz converter so I can play my 360 on my new TV...

Sounds like that's your answer.
He wants a PS3.
You want a 360.
Sounds like it's not a question of "Which is better" but "How do I change his mind?" which is really not something that you should be bothering with. He wants what he wants. Let it be.
If you can't get one without his help...sorry.
But most importantly, don't let this ruin any good relations with your roommate. Rent will be a lot harder if you piss them off.
I think he just doesn't want to help you buy a 360. No biggie.
Maybe it's time to move on and find another way to get the money.
He suggested it not me.
Well, the advice applies to both of you. If the other isn't willing to help buy the system you want...you can't force them. Convince, maybe...but good luck. Probably for the best to just let it go.

I assume he is buying the console new, where the arcade, pro, and elite all have an HDMI port.

Answer these questions and you'll find out what to get.

He has bluray and I doubt just a normal 1080 projection tv is good enough for bluray to be worth it.
olol final fantasy

But seriously I am a huge 360 nut now. I can't get enough of the damn system, and if you want RPGs, then you'll want the 360.
I remember when the argument was, "get the box for shooters and the playstation for RPGs"
But seriously, get the 360... I'm not going to say that it has changed my life but...

Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
More exclusives. Third party games run better.

Well, you can either offer to split a 360 with him or buy one on your own and lay claim to it whenever you want it.
Does he? I always find it funny people are like: "ABLOOBLOO I CAN GET THEM ON MY PC!" and then they don't. Like that should make a difference.
