Well, he's probably exclusive in the same way that Tool are. The things needed to get them into the game aren't things Harmonix are willing to do. Yet, at least.
So two large packages just arrived. Thanks to the dudes at MadCatz it was the Rock Band 2 Bass Guitar, Portable Drum Kit, Cymbal Pack and Controller/Mic Hybrid. A great little Christmas freebie package from them... now if only EA would get me my Rock Band 2 drums, I'd be able to use the cymbals!
Just about to test the bass. Feels really nice already.
Press copies, basically. I'm doing a feature on RB2 vs Guitar Hero: WT, so they sent me all the gear/games for both. Still waiting for RB2 drums though =/
Just this second spoke to Louise at EA who handles the Rock Band PR, and she sas there will be no drums til the new year in the UK I was hoping for them to turn up last minute for New Year, but alas.. wasn't to be.
Ugh, so in other news. I'm tempted to get GH:WT. I know I'm not a skittle lover but how bad/awesome/full of fail is Crazy Train & Mr. Crowley? This might well be the most expensive DLC I get so are they fun?
I'm in the same boat. Once I get my 360 back from RRoD repair, I kinda want to pick it up simply for certain songs. No need to get new instruments, and I can live without playing drums.
Looking over the track list, there's a lot of songs I want/am afraid to play. On the one hand, stuff like Everlasting Gaze, Vicarious, Parabola and Pull Me Under are HUGE draws. On the other hand, skittles. Grr. I've heard that isn't as much of a problem in GHWT, though.

Ooohh, you're rubbing it in.
Well, if you're unhappy with any of the equipment, feel free to send it to me.
In sad news, I potentially may have lost the little breakaway dongle for the 360 Strat, the one that has the USB port on one end. Does anyone know if EA support will provide a new one?

They're compatible with everything, do you can use the one from your drums or a wired controller.

Oh, awesome. I have a wired controller that gets almost no use anyway. You've saved my day!
Part of me thinks I should have jumped on a deal for GHWT + guitar and then sold off the game, though. The new GH guitar is pretty nice, like a love child of the Strat and the Les Paul.
As someone who primarily plays drums, I think that Neversoft can eat a dick.
What? Really? I thought this would be something they couldn't fail at. Any song in particular where the drum charting fails so I can youtube it?
I'd like to see some of the bad charting also. One "feature" I've heard of that I don't care for one bit is there are 'drum fill' sections where you are encouraged to just play whatever, and the more pads you hit, the more points you get. Meaning you are rewarded for playing in the most spastic fashion possible, guaranteed to make your guitarist fuck up when you go wildly off beat while trying to maximize noise/spam/points.
Are there any tips you guys can give me for going from Medium to Hard on guitar? I've been trying the past couple days and it's making me want to smash the damn controller. Medium has gotten too easy for me but Hard seems like a huge jump.

Yea, mostly it's stuff like this ("armored notes?" wtf?) and the new drums. I know that they made it so that the chart will adjust if you're playing on RB drums, but I really don't see any advantage to the layout that they went with and it smacks of just adding shit to be adding shit. I might rent the game one day, but as it stands I'm not even going to find out if the drum charts are well done.

Whenever you are not playing green notes, keep your hand shifted down one spot from where you're used to, with your index on red and pinky on orange. I don't play hard/expert like that, but until you get more used to playing shifted down one fret, it will force you to break your "index = green, middle = red, etc" mentality, and it's easier to reach up to green with your index then down to orange with your pinky, while you're learning to make the jump.
Eventually your hand will just learn to move back and fourth as needed to hit whatever's coming up. There is really no "trick" to it aside from repetition until it becomes unconscious. For now, forcing yourself to play with your hand one position down whenever possible will help get you used to disassociating certain fingers with certain colors. You get lazy when you play on medium, and it enforces habits you have to break.

start with bass and/or easy songs then slowly transition
Or do what I did: open The Trees in Practice mode, and play the intro section. Good practice for learning to move. I did that for about an hour, then jumped into playing other songs on hard, and just got better and better at it. Now I'm playing Expert on a lot of stuff (and failing a lot of harder songs) and having more fun than I used to.
I play guitar/bass with my pinky pretty much anchored to Orange. It took some getting used to, but now I couldn't imagine playing any other way.

When I started playing Guitar Hero 1 I kept my fingers in the standard position probably until halfway through expert. I don't think I even noticed that I had shifted to keeping my index on red and pinky on orange until I had been doing it for days.
Now I always play that way unless a song dictates otherwise. Basically, after playing guitar games for the thousands of hours I've played them I can keep my hand anywhere. Oftentimes I shift my index and middle to blue and orange if there is a particularly long string.
Also, just keep playing Hard as long as you aren't horribly, horribly failing songs. You'll get it eventually.
(This is something I have to keep forcing myself to do with drums. I'm comfortable on hard, TOO comfortable, but I have to make myself make the jump to expert.)

Yep, it's a dumb feature. It's like the poor man's BRE/Overdrive fill section. Whereas a BRE will be inserted into a song when appropriate, World Tour will put one in at the very end of a song when the song is done with the outro. The result is the song coming to a calming close only to be followed by the erratic sounds of popcorn popping and Fisher Price cymbals (plus you're the only instrument playing, which makes you look like an idiot). A BRE has you randomly wailing on the drums too, but at least the wailing is guided by music and if you screw up an overdrive fill, you come off looking stupid. World Tour promotes that same stupid feeling.
You also get points for those sections in World Tour, which are largely determined by the multiplier. Therefore, if you just lost your multiplier before going into one, you get a generous 56 points. The highest score I got from one was somewhere around 1,300 with a 4x multiplier.

Yeah, I was doing the drum trainer, and was so confused when it seemed like I had to hit notes super early. So I calibrated the hell out of it and it never really fixed. Then I realized, doh, it's based on the fills, which have instrument delay on them, so I'm guaranteed to have to hit them a little early.
Then I went on guitar and the calibration was totally fucked.

It honestly kind of ruins the game. I cannot get the calibration right.

What Audio/Video are you using, maybe some of us can give you some numbers.
Well, you guys seem to have added some depth to the thread in my absence. :P
Ten is major :^: and it's a cherry on my awesome weekend which included seeing an awesome concert. Franz Ferdinand and the Killers rocked the joint so hard and I have an even bigger appreciation for Paramore now. Or so I thought as I found out that I won Moss' raffle! So cool! Shady sucks! Frenso Falcons and Scott Weiland suck too!

and i get drastically different numbers for every instrument i try calibrating with, varying by 50 ms.
