Video Card Fan on its way out

Wassup duders.

The fan on my video card seems to be making a lot of noise lately. Kind of sounds like something is vibrating or grinding in the bearings. I've got an eVGA GeForce 8800 GTS. Is there a way I can replace the fan? I'd rather not lay down the dough on a new video card right now.

If it's still under warranty you should be able to get a free replacement fan. I've done this in the past with nvidia cards ranging from original GeForce to Geforce 4 series (they always had really crappy fans apparently).

Otherwise find a vga cooler that you like on newegg or something.

It's been over a year since I've bought it. I'll probably look into a VGA cooler.

    Thanks man.

If you registered it within 30 days of its purchase it will be under warranty. If so put in an rma with eVga. You will be without your card for a but, unless you paid for EAR. At least you will get one back though.

I'd recommend just replacing it yourself. Zalman makes great, and silent, cooling fans.

Then he takes a chance of voiding his warranty. He'll have to buy a new one if it dies and eVga refuses to replace it.

Your video card has a lifetime limited warranty on it, if it is the one you linked to. I would RMA it if you're okay not having that card for a bit. I'm not sure about EVGA but some other manufacturers let you do an advance RMA.

I have RMA'd two video cards and used eVgas step up one time. The longest it took was two weeks. The shortest was seven business days. Have you any experience with eVgas support? There is no need to exaggerate if you have none.

Now if the OP is dead set on just buying a replacement HSF. I recommend an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 or Thermalright HR-03.

Just as a general rule of thumb, depending on where you live and how you ship it, you're waiting a while.

1 hours is too long to be without a video card for some people. It's really just not even worth the shipping charge if you can get a fan for the same price with no lay around and they take all of 15 minutes for a Captain Underwear-On-Head to put on, at the worst. Yeah you've voided your warranty, maybe.
