I saw there is a black friday deal for it for $10, but does it suck? I searched around for it and all I could find were complaints that it was broken, complaints that the menu system sucked, complaints that it was buggy, and complaints that the DRM was horrid.
No DRM is listed on the steam page, and I bought and enjoyed the PC version. The only problem I had was that it's a bit choppy moving around the hub.

The menus and interface scream, "Console!" -- which is the best you can put it. Still nothing too bad and runs admirably on a decent system (stuff DX10 though, you're going to have your framerate die).
Bugginess - don't think so, no problems when I played.
DRM - DRM is like the closet boogeyman in PC gaming nowadays and is bandied about haphazardly whether they deserve to or not. The game uses bog-standard Safedisc copy protection, used in countless titles for like a decade. No where near as cocksucking as EA's recent offerings. Again, no problems, although I could maybe see a situation where it may not like your disc because it hates you.
Now, for the actual merits of the game itself? Let's say 10 bucks is about a good price, as far as I can see it.
I got it for the PC off Steam and enjoyed it a lot. I would agree the menu system was bad but who the hell plays a game because the menu system was super amazing? During my time playing the game (completely) I never once froze, crashed, or found a bug. A lot of developers place checks during gameplay to make sure the person playing actually bought it. If the checks fail it forces the game to crash / freeze so I am cautious about reviews or story's that state it was filled with bugs because there is a good chance the person writing it pirated. I could careless about DRM so that is up to you but overall I enjoyed the game and found it to be worth the money.
Ah, okay. "DRM" of disc checking and stuff I don't care about at all. As long as it doesn't limit my installs and all that. Guess I will be heading out on Friday to try to snag it.

Best thing about the PC version is the lack of flag fetching race missions. Seriously, "I lost my flags you need to get them in a certain timeframe" does not belong in a game about assassination.
At least they're replaced by some slightly more interesting stab-a-dude-or-two missions.

Really? Now that I think about it, I must have avoided them for the other missions.

But that was the point, wasn't it? that there is actually enough variety that you're not doing the same type of mission more than twice per assassination

It's just the same few silly mission at different places.
It was a great game on PC. The only problem I encountered (which was entirely my own fault) was that I convinced myself the my rig could play it on high detail, and thus I went through the entire game a 2/3 the speed it was meant to be going. Sometimes there was a 5 second pause between finishing speaking and someone else interrupting.
But the controls were great on pc. You've just got to play it the way the designers intended to play it. i.e. not as a hack and slash. Or as a chase simulator where the goal is to get chased every time you pass a guard. Except for in the wilderness, where it's easier to just run away than stay below the 3km/h speed limit. Climbing is also kinda fun, especially working out how to get to the top of the tallest towers in the cities.
The smash the merchant stand missions are kinda funny, as you can see that they had no place whatsoever story or theme wise, but the designers thought it would be kinda fun. Which it is.
I suggest turning off the HUD when playing this game, and you'll probably find it much more enjoyable. I would pause the game a few times to look at the overall map, other than that, I learned each city by actually exploring. I personally really liked AC, the only thing I wish for now is a trophy patch

Similarly, terminal stupidity is currently incurable by modern medicine. Case in point..
The gameplay is limited and repeative.

Also, Assassin's Creed is a great game if you buy it cheap and ignore the hype.
No admitting the game has flaws doesn't make it a bad game.
Those flaws making the game tedious, overly-easy and largely dull. That makes it a bad game.
All truth.
The PC port is fine if you have a midway decent computer.
It's really not buggy either.
