Hey H/A, so here's the deal. My girlfriend and I are going to be hanging out over the Thanksgiving holidays and there will be some sexing involved. She has had an IUD for over a year now because it helps with her menstrual cramps, and she claims that we don't have to use condoms because this thing prevents her from getting pregnant. I tend to err on the side of caution, and don't really feel like being a father at this point in my life, so talk of having unprotected sex kind of makes me uncomfortable.
My question to you, H/A, is this: is she right? Or do I have reason to worry? Also, there is no possibility of STDs, we've both been tested recently and we are monogamous.

All second-generation copper-T IUDs have failure rates of less than 1% per year, and cumulative 10-year failure rates of 2-6%.[9] A copper IUD may also be used as emergency contraception. If an IUD is inserted within five days of unprotected intercourse, a woman's risk of pregnancy is reduced to that of ongoing IUD users.[38]
Don't worry about it. There could be disease though, so unless you've both been tested you want to use a condom. 'cause that HIV will make your dick hang sideways, and that ain't cool, fool.

However, if you're just going to freak out on her and count the seconds until her period shows up, use a condom. The stress isn't worth it.
Yeah, don't be that guy.
