It's basically every character that ever appeared in the series (sans Avengers) running away from the Gibborim, the demons the Pride made a deal with.
You have to see it in person, it's so awesome, and each character has emotion that really makes it fun to look at. The friggin' Werewoofs are on it, come on.

So I just borrowed the first two books for The Authority from my friend. Seems pretty cool so far. Is it worth picking up the first trade? Is it worth following this series?
There's just something off about Authority to me, besides the fact that they have two reality-altering characters on their roster. I think it has something to do with the fact that I read the Coup D'Etat arc Ed Brubaker wrote, and I kept starting and stopping until I realized I.... I was offended by the language.
So I just picked up the first two trades of Planetary and it was surprisingly good. Doing a bit more research, I see that the last issue of Planetary is due to come out this year. But 2009 is still kinda vague. Has anyone been able to find a more accurate date for its release?

It's a running question for those of us waiting for that last trade. Ellis, for his part, says he turned in the scripts years ago.

I say go for it. I have the complete run and, though it dips at some points, all and all I really enjoyed the series.
Yeah I'm another big fan of The Authority, warts and all. I think Ellis' original vision was so inspired that the book has no choice but to achieve some amount of greatness no matter who is writing.
Really enjoying the post-apocalyptic thrust of the current volume also.

Ellis finished the script and sent it to the artist two years ago, he claims. Last year he said that it's apparently "half done".
So, with out spoiling anything more than necessary, has it been explained yet as to why Deadpool has dueling personas conversing in his head?
I read issue 1 of the ongoing, and then dumped it to wait for trades. I picked up Games of Death as an impulse buy today, and just remembered that whole contrived plot device.

I know that.
But there are the traditional yellow boxes.
Then the yellow speech bubbles as deadpool talks to himself.
He has two voices in his head, and he also talks to himself out loud. If I remember right, the white boxes are the rational part of his mind. But then, I might be mistaken there.
Anyway, every box is him talking to himself.

I've been trying to look at it as his Id, Ego, and Superego. When he talks out loud, he's all Id, just blathering out whatever he wants with no filter whatsoever. The white internal monologues are his Ego, trying to achieve Deadpool's ends rationally, and beneficially. His yellow internal monologues are his Superego, acting as his conscience, and trying to find a healthy balance in Wade's mind.
I really need to go back and read all the issues to see how this lines up, but that's been my mindset as I read the issues.
Apologies if this has already been asked, but has there been any news on Ex Machina Volume 8? I picked up the first seven trades and eally enjoyed them, but neither the wildstorm site nor amazon even have a placeholder for it. Is there a problem with publication or something?
Anyone know where I can find the early Authority trades? Only thing I've seen has been the first two absolutes, and the guy was charging 100 fo the first and 150 for the second, so I didn't get them

I just finished the Silent War trade. I'd like it if someone were to spoil for me what happens after it.
the ending gets ignored, black bolt fights hulk and loses off panel in WWH, it's revealed to be a Skrull imposter in Secret Invasion and the SI: Inhuman series has the Inhumans track down Black Bolt, free him and take him back to the Moon where he becomes the king again. His insane brother remains free and is like an advisor or co-ruler or something. From there, Black Bolt takes the Inhumans city (which is liek a space ship too) and flies off to hunt down skrulls, kills the last of their fleeing armada from SI, wipes out a fleet of Shi'ar ships and then heads to Kree homeworld and takes over the Kree Empire. Then its War of Kings.
I have a question: is The Creeper miniseries from a couple of years back worth reading?
The art by Justiniano is pretty, but I personally find Steve Niles pretty consistently underwhelming, with the Creeper being no exception. If you want to read a good Creeper story, I recommend the Vertigo mini-series Beware the Creeper, with art by Cliff Chiang, though it has no connection to the Jack Ryder Creeper, or the DCU at all. Plus, even though it's my favorite Creeper story, it's still only pretty good, not great.
Really, for being a damn cool character, the Creeper's never really been in a great story.

I think it dipped a lot when it
went from Sparks to Quantum, and the team basically had two gods on the roster.
When the Superman-analog clocks in at #3 most powerful, you're in a bad spot writing-wise.

I read WWH, and all in all, that sounds rather boring. What titles were those told in?
SI: War of Kings #1 deals with the 'flying off into space, killing skrulls and conquering Kree' part. War of Kings event deals with the aftermath (youc an read the first issue for free at Marvel.com if you want).

Hmm, yeah, I recently watched the BTAS Creeper episode, which got me a little curious about the character, and saw the trade at my local shop. I recognized the artist from Countdown to Mystery, which I really enjoyed, but wasn't sure if the series itself was worth it. Maybe I'll check it out if I can find it for cheap.
So, for the project I mentioned over in the covers thread, I'm also looking for really well-known comic oaths/quotes/etc. Stuff along the lines of:
"criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot." "with great power comes great responsibility," "whosever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of... thor," and the green lantern oath.
What other extremely well-known, repeated quotes are there?
Joe-
I really enjoyed action philosophers, and I need to buy the next two volumes. I have yet to read Age of Bronze, but the general consensus is that it is meticulously researched, though not as straight forward in the educational department

uh... read Robos quote, it clearly says Green Lantern Oath.
Just stay away from the Blue Lantern Oath... that thing makes me kinda nauseous.

Any idea what Strain's up to now? Wiki isn't any help.

looking back, i guess it is sort of a miracle that we even got the 26 issues that we did
