So my friend's coming over in a few with his 360, we're going to do all the campaigns back to back... We can clear the demo on normal without breaking a sweat, advanced 90% of the time (without dying I mean) and the two of us beat Expert without dying once. Should we start on advanced, or is the full game so much harder than the demo that we should drop to normal?
We went through No Mercy advanced with 4. There weren't many deaths until the finale, but I don't know how in the hell we would have done the finale on Expert.
I played through all of No Mercy on advanced this morning (the only time I've played the game since the demo so most of it was new to me) and didn't die or get incapacitated once. I'd say it's pretty damn easy. :P
edit: and the other 3 guys I was playing with only died like 2 or 3 times and one of those was an accidental falling off of the hospital.
I was promised a 1900 X 1200 screen shot of this game with all the bells and whistles. Just stating it because I really want to see what this game looks like at it's hottest.
I will also say that I don't think Advanced is easy. I think it's perfect because I spend the majority of the game in that whole "enough health to be ok if no crazy shit goes down" mode, and obviously crazy shit constantly goes down.
I'll be on XBox Live around midnight EST, and would love to find a group of 3 others who haven't seen much more than the demo if there's still some people out there like that...

I hate how the director does nothing if Survivors rush in versus. No witches or zombies are spawned in their paths to force them to slow down, the only thing holding them off and barely at that are you and the other bosses. This happened to me in the last three games I've been in and it's starting to get annoying.
My guess is because it's locked at Normal and it doesn't penalize as fast as it should.
I personally enjoy expert more. The entire campaign is usually completely doable up until the finale, when you really need teamwork for it to work. Even with teamwork though, anything can happen
but that's how I like it. I love it when things suddenly go horribly wrong and on one side you have a tank crushing your friend by tossing a car at him and on the other you have hordes of ravenous undead swarming in to flank you
but yeah, I played almost only with pubbies today and I could not have imagined playing expert with them. This game is best played with friends

Man, this. As an example me and some nice pubbies were just doing Blood Harvest Advanced and were generally doing OK outside of getting wiped out by a badly-spawned tank until we hit the finale. First time we wiped trying to do a traditional defense: second time we holed up in the bathroom during the rush and had the Tank doing hurdles running through the house (and would have won if I, the last survivor, had known the APC was coming by the barn); third time we tried holing up in the barn and that worked pretty darn well, and managed to make it until the end until I got nailed by a common out of nowhere, much to my screaming of "LEAVE ME! LEAVE MEEE!!!" at the one other survivor. Good times, good fucking times.
Still having hella problems getting my server going. I connect to it, type in my password, for example:
rcon_password 123456
And get no response. Then normally the first thing I try to do is change the server name.
So far I've tried multiple variations of the command, in case I was getting it wrong, I think it's supposed to be:
rcon hostname "NEW SERVER NAME"
correct?
Every time though it gives me a Bad Rcon Password error though, and won't let me do anything. Even though I'm using the password Gameservers gave me.
Anybody know what's going on?
I'm having trouble setting up mine too. They're having an FTP issue with the scripting. I'm reinstalling my server as we speak. They resolved the script error [script was referring to l4d_demo when the directory was now l4d]

check the config file, my original config file was messed up
you'll have to ftp into your server, then go to /l4d_demo/ipaddress/l4d/left4dead/cfg/ and open server.cfg
you should be able to just edit this file and restart the server, or if anything it will at least show you your rcon password
So, finally beating No Mercy on Expert with Butterfly and some RL friends was some of the most fun I've had gaming in a long time. Butterfly was the only one alive and managed to jump into the helicopter with a horde of zombies and boss infected chasing after him.
I made it to the helicopter and everything in No Mercy, wasn't listed as dead in the credits, but still didn't get my achievement! I'm sad Was I supposed to press something on the helicopter?
This is also the first game ever where my team mates have actually begged me to leave them to die.
One guy on my team died as we entered what WAS the safe room in the 2nd area of the No Mercy demo. Right after you open the floodgates of zombies. He spawned down in the GARAGE below the building as a survivor. I went back for him and he kept yelling "No - leave me! Don't come back!" but I couldn't let that happen.
I quickly learned he was right because I got killed, but it happened again and I managed to save him, and got that awesome achievement for leaving a safe room to save someones ass.

Oh I am sure it will balance out, but every versus match I entered had 4 zombies and one survivor. I sorta felt bad, till I was a smoker and nabbed the PC dude and just continued to claw him while none of the NPC's came to help because they were close to the safe house.
I've only had one versus game end because they didn't want to be the survivors. Otherwise people suck it up and take their turn.
The key for the survivors is to keep moving. You kill a infected player, that gives you 20-30secs to before he gets back in, cover as much ground as possible. This also gives the infected less time to plan a coordinated attack. Its not hard to figure that out, but i get that one person who wants to take it reaaaaal slow and snip everything from half across the map. Mean while boomers, hunters and smokers keep showing up.
I love fighting real people, it makes shutting the door on the safe room all that much sweeter knowing you bested some one.
BTW does the 'join group game' work? I've tried it multiple times and it always says no game found.
I get out of work in an hour and have just been refreshing this for the past 2 hours waiting to go home and FINALLY play through all of No Mercy from start to finish on the 360.
There better be 3 of you who are up for this at that point, because this has been the longest work night of my LIFE.

Cool, exactly what I wanted to hear.
Now to fight over which one of us gets to be Bill.
EDIT: no wipes, either until finale

Cos' I fucking love being the zombies.
EDIT: Commentary is only for No Mercy? Boo!

I wish I got a screenshot of that.
End of No Mercy, a survivor's going to jump in the helicopter, and gets OMGWTFPWN3D mid-air by a hunter.

Are you sure you're selecting the full game and not the demo? The demo was moved to the bottom of the list.
No...
Time to install
I did not know he can circle strafe.
Best $40 I spent on a video game.
This is what I was thinking two hours ago. Now I'm holding the game in my hands.

i think that's quite enough for one day
