So I might pick up Siren.
Is the value good for AUS$50 *shrug*

    -.-

    You're just teasing me.

Has nobody ever told you that Siren is the best survival horror game of the high-def consoles (see: Metacritic)? Nobody's mentioned the utterly remarkable soundtrack or mind-bending story, or that Siren is made by most of the crew responsible for the original Silent Hill? No one's ever pointed out that Siren is survival horror + stealth gameplay (two great things that go great together!) with the genius feature of beeing able to see through the eyes of your undead pursuers?

Maybe no one did, but I goddamned will! If you don't buy this game for you are sinning against humanity.

Perhaps that's going a little far - but I should at very least say it's in your own best interest as a gamer to play (what is often referred to as) the best survival horror game since Silent Hill 2 and one of my top-5 all time PS3 titles.

    I hope I didn't oversell it.

Well, you sold it to me!
I was going to buy it anyway, seeing that I have inexplicably stumbled on $50.

    Installing right now.

Edit: I was also really looking forward to it in the first place, just a little bit worried about the length.

Agreed about L4D not being worth $50, but its $40 at amazon, and I have a $10 coupon thing, so its $30 to me, kinda. And, :D bsjezz, I never really though of it, but you are right, I think the game's success is the community and I have all of 2 friends on steam so perhaps L4D purchase is stupid....

But yeah I want a game for my PC. Its a laptop so its video card isn't good enough to run the new AAA titles. (good enough for source though) I need something to play when my ps3/tv are occupied.... I dunno. I think I'll wait for Black Friday and see what goes on sale.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

    Antihippy: About Siren's length.

If you've heard 8-12 hours, know that it is true. The first few episodes are incredibly short - don't think they're an indication of the final product. Siren has good replay value though - I suppose the replayability is comparable to Fatal Frame, where you want to go back and get all the photos you missed on your first time through.

On my first series of playthroughs I did 3 runs - one on normal, one on hard and one more with a walkthrough in hand to find the missing Archives.

So yes, Siren is short. But let's remember God of War is 7ish hours, and every Metal Gear Solid game can be beaten in around 5.

    I don't mind 8-12 hours seeing that it's only $50.

Hell, I'll be glad to get those hours for $90.

Played through 3 chapters, and though it's pretty slow going at first, but it really picked up when I got to the little girl.

The voice-acting is hilariously... American? And the Shibito's movements are pretty funny as well, but I'm enjoying it thus far.

    It's really dark though.

    Americans in Hanuda.
Siren 1 sold all of 112,000 copies in NA (pathetic) - and they had to court our audience. North America is the single largest PS3 market with over 6.5 million installed units - Japan has a paltry 2.5.

I didn't think much of the westernization of 80% of the cast until I got my hands on the game. Then I just really appreciated that the Americans spoke Enlish (which seems reasonable) and the Japanese folks spoke Japanese (ditto). In addition, I actually found myself a touch more immersed - playing a foreigner in this alien land and perhaps experiencing a similar culture shock.

It works - it really works. I can't say I thought it was a good idea when I first heard of it (though I understand why they did it) - but after getting into Siren as a North American, I have to say I think it added to my enjoyment of the game.

God I'd love to see some sales numbers for the NA PSN version.

Yea, $1-5, but now include that x1,000,000 units. Thats a lot of money saved. :P

You guys forgot to mention that Novastrike is part of that $5 deal. I'll probably pick it up since I've 100%'d Stardust and I feel itchy to fly yet more ships that shoot bullets. Also don't want to wait until December 4th for Soldner X, even though it looks pretty sweet.

Well honestly, my HDTV is only 720p, so it probably won't even make a visible difference, right? Isn't HDMI mainly beneficial for 1080p people?

Odd I'd think that a 720p Tv would at least be able to do 1080i. But yeah unless doing 1080 the 5 prong composite should work well enough. Though I think you should be able to find a standard HDMI cable cheaper than sony PS composite hook up.

I keep hearing this about Heavely Sword ($15-20 = must buy), but the PSN demo did absolutely nothing for me. Though I suppose, neither did the Uncharted demo and look how that turned out.

Honestly though, I've had my PS3 since April but due to stuff that keeps me busy, I haven't really gotten around to playing it at all. Burnout: Paradise is the only game I own. I do, however, have 5 weeks off beginning Friday. I've made a list of games to get:

    Uncharted
    Tools of Destruction
    Siren: Blood Curse
    Valkyria Chronicles
    Ninja Gaiden Sigma
    maybe Warhawk

I also want MGS4 but I'm gonna wait for the Somethingstance edition. Any others I should get?

What are the absolutely best PSN titles, btw? Wipeout HD looks good.

I'm kind of getting worried. I just bought a used 60GB PS3 on eBay, and it's been working great with Resistance 2 and Warhawk, but today it just crashed twice, one time in each game. The entire system locked up (unable to bring up the XMB), and the freeze/sound froze. Both times I was playing online.

Is this a common thing, even with new PS3's? Or should I be worried that mine might be getting old or overheating or something? Both times I was able to restart and play for a long period of time without any issue..

And yes, it is kept in an open area with good circulation all-around, especially behind.

It wasn't frozen, the load animation was going, and I could access XMB. I don't know if your situation is common, but I've never had that happen.

That's a freeze. Not a hard freeze, but a freeze.

I've made a list of games to get: [/quote]

    Uncharted :^:
    Tools of Destruction :^:
Siren: Blood Curse :^::^: bless your heart
Valkyria Chronicles :^::^: for listing these two.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma (if you're hardcore :^:)
maybe Warhawk (if you love online shooters :^:)

I feel I should add Fallout 3 - it may not be THE goty, but it's A goty, totally addictive, unlike anything else and 100% awesome (aside from, y'know, all the bugs). Even with the bugs, it's a 9/10. 10/10 without.

Also, Dead Space is action-horror 3rd-person-shootery at its very best. If you took any pleasure in Resident Evil 4, you MUST pick up Dead Space. Just not before Siren or Valkyria.
