Although none of the stuff in the OP justifies the cost of the machine, for me, I'm looking forward to picking up a PS3 when the price drops another hundred squids.
I'm kind of getting worried. I just bought a used 60GB PS3 on eBay, and it's been working great with Resistance 2 and Warhawk, but today it just crashed twice, one time in each game. The entire system locked up (unable to bring up the XMB), and the freeze/sound froze. Both times I was playing online.
Is this a common thing, even with new PS3's? Or should I be worried that mine might be getting old or overheating or something? Both times I was able to restart and play for a long period of time without any issue..
And yes, it is kept in an open area with good circulation all-around, especially behind.
I've had my PS3 lock up a couple of times. Both times it was because of the stupid ticker tape news thing that they have on the XMB. After I turned it off it was all fine. Try turning off all unneeded things, like the media server and the ticker tape info thing and see if that makes things more stable.

I personally paid 600 shrimps for mine.
Anyone know a good co-op splitscreen FPS for the PS3? Doesn't have to be exclusive.
I would say army of two but you said good. I guess its good for a rental but the charactors are douches and the story is meh and short.
Resistance 1 is a damn good co-op game and the second one is awsome if you hop on a server with 6 other people. Only thing that kinda sucks is player2's exp won't carry over from one game to the next.
Warhawk try the demo know that it takes about an hour of playing before things usualy start to click with people.
Rough start but I never gave up hope on the hueg black box. Now we're awash in superb titles. Probably my second favorite console besides the SNES.
Now I know you're lying because we both inhabit the same dimension where the SEGA Dreamcast exists. So it would be third favourite at best otherwise I would have to do bad things to you.
the dremcast was a great machine and its cruelly abrupt lifetime was a damn shame, but given the choice i'd take a ps3 and its library over it any day of the week

The PS3's got some great games, and lord knows I've got a fat backlog since I haven't had mine long, but it's got a long way to go before it matches up to the PS2's massive trove.
Unless you're counting the PS2's library as part of the PS3's.

Well... Sony made damn sure you can't do that any more.
Admittedly, there's about 10 PS2 games I'd still really liked to get my hands on, but I have 43 games that I consider masterpieces or at least personal treasures. This is - of course - just my taste, I'm quite sure you could locate folks on these boards who are prepared to list 150 PS2 titles they consider "must-own".
I have... lemmie count... wow, 15 PS3 titles, and the only one I couldn't call a masterpiece or personal treasure is Strangehold. It's... good. Not great. It'll do 'till Max Payne 3 happens - and I hope to God MP3 happens. We're only 2 years into the console's lifetime - and the first year is almost always a wash anyway.
If, as Sony says (over and over and over), the PS3 will have a 10 year lifespan like its older brother the future looks bright indeed.

I've got all the next gen consoles and I must say the PS3 is my favourite. I really don't know what it is but something about the system feels "solid". The exclusive games are, by and large, awesome and the online runs well and is free. The PSN is awful though, it forces me to impulse buy awesome games.
I think the only reason at this point I chose to buy the 360 over the PS3 when I did was because the 360 has PC monitor support. Now that I'm getting a tv that will do the PS3 proper justice, I look forward to buying one asap.
Though I have no idea how I'm going divide my time between two consoles, a handheld, and WoW/PC games.

Seriously - WoW is gaming crack. You need to get off that shit. Your family is here for you, we just want you to be happy, healthy and WoW-free.
Your WoWfriends will understand - mine still drop me emails regularly to catch up (though they also invariably include updates on guild and gear progress, none of which I can quite decode any more).
WoW is a glorified chat engine. The prettiest chat room in the world, built around the most popular online RPG - but that's all it is. Online socializing - and it's sucking your life dry.
I don't miss WoW - I just miss spending that time with my online buddies (only 1 of whom is left). If I wanna' socialize nowadays, I can leave the house and meet up with flesh-and-blood people. If I want to play an RPG, I'd click on my sig and check out this phenomenal "Valkyria Chronicles" I've been hearing so little about lately.

Not necessarily true. In the brief time I played WoW (got up to level 30), I did no socializing whatsoever. Just quests. For someone who tends to do all the side quests in single-player RPGs, jumping into WoW was pretty dangerous for me, and I'm glad I got pulled out of it.
Now I weep (and wait for!) the day when Monster Hunter 3 hits the Wii.

That's actually quite akin to my style as well - mostly because when I got there most of my FFXI pals were approaching 60 already (and couldn't exactly quest with me much) or they had all flown the coop and left me all alone. But even if you're mostly soloing, you're essentially a 'lurker', observing the interactions of others from the periphery. I stand by the analogy.
Am I a bad man for actually thinking that the combat is enjoyable though? It's just too fun swinging random things at the Shibito.
And why are you so weak, Japanese man?

Siren walks the tightrope of survival horror combat really well. It's just unweildly enough to feel panicked and hectic, but perfectly easy to control.
edit: <thinks> Chapter 3 is Bella's first level, right? Man, every one of Bella's levels are so phenomenal to me. I don't mind saying I loved every second of being a terrified little girl.
In pigtails.

It was indeed fun to play as a scared little girl.
One time, I just figured out how to get past a shibito when
Shibito black camera guy suddenly rushes me.
Goddamnit you're reminding me how awesome Siren is - now I wanna' hit it up with another playthrough! My backlog can't handle this!
finish Valkyria Chronicles (savoring it like a fine wine)
LBP: gotta' make Booger of Prophecy 2
LBP: my little bro and I are working on a forest fire level
Fallout 3: I love exploring with my good/sneaky/sniper
Fallout 3: I wanna' make an Int/Char/sniper for a neutral playthrough
Mirror's Edge: need those trophies!
and now
Siren.
I had such a good experience importing it, it's made me want to try out other weird we-may-not-get-it-over-here-on-disc imports like Hakuna Matata (Afrika's new title) or Aquanaut's Holiday. Those things look unlike any game I've played or seen on the current gen.

From what I know it's a re-imagining of the PS2 series.
So I don't think that will really matter.
Also, another great moment:
Bella level again, and pressed the elevator not being sure what I'm supposed to do. Then my heart is suddenly pounding, and then elevator door open with a shibito in a crutch with his back turned. I barely got out of his view before he turns around, and the elevator door closes.
From what I know it's a re-imagining of the PS2 series.
So I don't think that will really matter.
Hm? I dunno what you mean - what won't really matter?
When I say Siren I mean Siren Blood Curse. If I mean Siren 1 I'll say Siren 1 or That Game That Kicks You In The Balls Over And Over And No, It's Never Fun.
But yeah BC is basically a shortened, simplified version of Siren 1 with American characters taking up the roles of some of the originals (and in some cases, an amalgamation of one or 2 of the original characters), and improved in every conceiveable way. Its only losses vs Siren 1 are length, story complexity and (thankfully) challenge.
Chance on
'Chance, you are the best kind of whore.' -Henroid
iirc, Siren 1 sold 112,000 copies in NA. I snagged one, but given the abysmal sales I can't think they'd be very easy to find in your local pawn shop. Ebay/Amazon very likely has copies.
It's worth having for several reasons - the plot is thick, like sticky webbing. The game is technologically astounding, with an amazing technique used on character's faces. It's the first survival horror title to combine the genre with stealth.
But it is not a fun game. Not at all. If you find it, print out the most in-depth easy-to-understand walkthrough you can find. Print the whole thing out, keep it beside you, and use it every step of the way. And even then, this game will kick you in the balls, over and over.
It's not 'challenging'. It's a bitch. It's also more than a little awesome, but I can't reccomend it as more than a curio.
Siren 2 solves the difficulty problem (by removing it), but the story lacks. Also, because of Siren 1's performance, 2 was only ever released in JP and PAL.

He was replying to my post on the previous page, I said I'm likely getting Siren at xmas and wondered if it mattered I hadn't played the other games.
Seemingly it doesn't, so I'm happy!
And I too am struggling with a backlog. Make a level in LBP, actually put some time in to Grid and Dirt, try to master a few more songs in Rock Band, get further in Wipeout HD, actually put Dead Space/Fallout 3 in to the machine... ARGH!
And then there's Prince of Persia soon, another xmas present, which I will drop EVERYTHING for as I'm a die-hard fan of the PoP series.

I had it and it raped me hard. We're talking prison levels of rape here. It was freaky as hell, but I could never get very far in it.
Haha, awesome. I'll probably get it when I see it though, and not actually hunt it down.
Oh lol sorry Grinch I didn't see >.< but yeah, it's probably beneficial to your enjoyment of the new Siren to have never played S1.
Also, I too have asked for PoP for Christmas. It looks so damn good - and if, like me, you're the type who religiously reads reviews even if you preordered a game months ago, I urge you to check out Metacritic. IGN gives it a 93, with IGN UK offering a 94!

2009 looks even sweeter too. RE5, SF4, KOF12 (maybe), Blazblue (maybe) are already all must haves for me.
Having just gotten the platinum, I shall say I wish you the best of luck reaching that goal.
Also, remember your blood pressure medication.
