The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I have been a dedicated Penny Arcade reader for a few years now, which is not long at all compared to some, but I would consider myself an avid fan. Up until now, I have been a passive fan, visiting the site every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and whenever else my RSS feed tells me there is an update, then continuing merrily on my way. But when I read that this is Penny Arcade's 10th birthday, I felt the need to celebrate, so I joined the forum in order to say this:
Congratulations on your accomplishments, Gabe and Tycho. And the whole PA crew. For all you have achieved in the world of gaming, in the world of art, in the world of philanthropy, I would like to thank you. You are a credit to gamers. A credit to humanity. And I mean that. I believe that you are truly admirable human beings, and I will continue to read Penny Arcade for as long as you continue to publish it. I have a bottle of wine here, and I drink to Gabe and Tycho (in no particular order).
Wow these forums are 10 years old? That's awesome!
I don't think it's the forums, just the main comic.
AFAIK, the forums came quite a bit after the comic.
The forums existed in some form as early as...2000? 2001, maybe? I forget. I just vaguely remember the old forum software. Or rather the old old forum software.
Yeah it broke constantly and then went away for a few years.
I was a Junior in High School when I started reading (spring 99). "Make shitade" was on my girlfriend's Freshman (or was it sophomore?) door.
This is the quote I made display as a banner after my login when I first learned Unix scripting Fall of Freshman year:
The moral? I am old. And Penny-arcade is older than the pyramids in Internet years
My brother introduced me to Penny Arcade via a PA screensaver he had. No idea how long ago that was, but I didn't read it until my first semester of graduate school (Fall of '04). Needed to kill some time between classes so I hopped on one of the campus computers and started going through the archives. Joined the forums around the same time, but no idea when I started posting.
I think I started reading this in.. junior high in '99. I'm surprised there was no celebratory newspost or any other visible sign of celebration for the 10th anniversary of what is probably THE most successful webcomic ever.

Is it? I'm curious.
You would be amazed at how little correlation quality has to do with popularity. Is there any kind of statistics site that can confirm that kind of thing?

(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.

most other webcomics are short lived or just suck. many of the good ones ended, like PBF and Get Your War On

While I am sure your experience covers a great deal of this area I still desire a more objective measurement of hits per day and lifespan. I would infact desire this more if you lived and breathed webcomics, since it's even more likely you would be biased in some way because of familiarity.
I'm trying very hard to say "Your word isn't good enough" without coming off as a dick, is it working?

According to Alexa, it seems to be, though they include the forum and whatnot. xkcd is pretty much breathing down its neck. Nothing else I checked was even close.

Well, it's the thought that counts.

There's a comic? I have no idea what you folks are on about.
(I'd drag this joke on but it was a miss the first time apparently.)

Stick around, we're a fun group of people.
Glad you like the comic. We do too. Well, most of us.
there's that one guy, but we don't talk about that one guy
Damn, it's been four years? Or, only four years?

Basically everything except Twilp and Catsby is my favourite.
This one seemed apposite and stuff:
