So does my xbox have to be connected to the internet to play .avi files now? After I install the media update, it still prompts me to download it each time.
My googleing has told me that some people have to, some people don't. Doe's anyone know what makes it like this, if I can fix it, etc.
Try clearing out your cache? Pretty sure the method is in the OP.
Thanks, I'll try that when I get home. Didn't see it in the OP, just Netflix stuff.
I'm just that lazy. Stranglehold took about 10 minutes, MUA another 10... By the time I got both of them installed I was ready to try out another game, which meant I had to delete them.
$130 is a lot of fucking money for a 120GB drive (I was tossing up between this and a 1TB external HDD for my PC) but I think it'll get some use.

You're not just paying for the drive though. You're also paying for the proprietary housing used to connect it to your 360. :>

I bought a pair of 1TB SATA drives for my server box for $150/ea. MS wants to sell me 120G for that?
I'd like a bigger hard drive, but that's way overpriced.

Which you already have if you've got a 20gig/60gig drive. :P
It's really pretty asinine. That enclosure is all plastic with a single cable inside and a $40 hard drive that Microsoft probably pays $20 or less for when they buy a gazillion of 'em.

...I like having more than one game installed since I'm ADHD and bounce between games on a daily basis.
I'm sure it's been discussed... but did they remove some of the codecs for video playback with NXE?
None of my porn... errr... videos... want to play nicely since the update.
I now get "unable to play" messages for some, was prompted to install the media update for others (which I already had, but redownloaded anyway), and some just sit at "Opening" forever with no progress.

Yeah but there's a problem with that articles info right off the bat. Value Added Retailers are paying $75 for 120Gb 2.5" hard drives? Really? Why? When average Joe Consumer can buy one for around $50? That's retail, companies don't pay retail when they buy goods.
Even Gizmodo relinquishes at the end and admits that they're probably making a ton more money off this than anybody wants to think. I mean I get it, it's great fucking business to have high profit margins...it does make consumers feel shafted though when they start to realize they're being taken.

I'm using Tversity and my videos play perfectly. They even go automatically fullscreen now instead of me having to change the display mode every time. Hell .mkv files play without suttering now, its awesome.

Will Tversity parse subtitle files now, too? I've been without a working PC for awhile now, otherwise I'd find out for myself.

Not sure, never had to use them. I know that lots of people had trouble getting .mkv's to play that had subtitles, but mine worked fine (Planet Earth).

Yeah, the Xbox drives are certainly still a big rip-off, but I just wanted to make the point that 2.5" vs. 3.5" is not a valid comparison. If you're going to make the comparison, do it valid, you don't have to make the invalid comparison for it to work.
That's just how much of a ripoff the MS drives really are. :P
Ignoring the 360, I agree about miscommunicating hard drive types. I get pissed when people state they can build the computer cheaper but don't include the price of the OS.
Anyways, I was surprised to find that 1tb 2.5 drives don't really exist in the mainstream. I learned something today. Yay.

I dunno. I got a spare 120gb HD lying around because I bought a new elite box the same day the one stopped working.
the point: dropping $130 for an external probably isn't that big a deal for me.

THIS, so very, very hard. I want to give MS some cash for the 120 gig drive, but I can't justify the prices. I hope (against hope) that the price will drop post-holiday. I've been looking forward to the sound of my disc drive NOT spinning, and only being able to do it with Gears 2 is a slight downer.
I picked up the 60 gig live pack this weekend, and I've been quite happy with it. I was really torn about getting it, or the 120 gig for $35 more, but in the end I realized I'm still paying more, and the 60 will probably suit my needs just fine. Sure enough, I redownloaded all my arcade games, and installed Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, and Gears of War 2, and I still have 25 gigs free. I think the 60 suited me just fine.

I came in here hoping to find a list of games that have a decent benefit of being installed to the hard drive. Instead I find that list of "inaccessable DLC"; including "Heavenly Star" for Lumines. FUCKING A!!! I got that when it first came out but then I lost my hard drive and I was never able to get it again.
If you install a game that's not on this list or doesn't have details entered, I guess you could like...register and post or something. But I didn't tell you to do that.
Don't do it.
not really sure why i'm afraid of NeoGAF
edit: Also, can't believe what it says about Mass Effect I almost want to try myself. No more pauses when running ahead but elevator load times were hardcoded? What? If ever there was something that could easily be dynamic, it's that shit. I seem to remember them being variable on consecutive trips which would make sense due to caching....just doesn't seem right.
There's an iPhone app to add movies to the instant queue, it shows the top 50 and let you search for a title, i got it for free a couple of days ago, it's $1 now.
actually, I checked out this app i.TV and you can add to the instant queue as well as the DVD queue. when you tap the add button, it then prompts you with a choice of adding to DVD or Instant.
the problem? i have found no way of finding new movies aside from selecting something in your existing queue and then seeing the 5 recommendations that show up underneath. lame.
edit: this is not true. you can search to find netflix films in the app.
You guys should check out iFlix if you want a good iPhone app for Netflix. Not free ($2.99) but it's by far the best IMO. You can rearrange your instant queue and also browse for new instant watching titles to add from within it.
