Trouble streaming H.264 to 360

I've got some movies encoded in H.264, and figured I'd try watching them on my new TV through my 360.
Now, WMP11 will play the files (reluctantly), but won't add them to the library. So I heard about TVersity, went and set it up, and now I can see the files on 360, but now it won't play them. It'll play my divx/xvid files okay, but not any of the H.264 files.
So, am I missing something, or do I need to convert these files to something else to play them through the 360? And if so, what's the best way to go about that?
