Vets at the Swan Veterinary Clinic in Midvale hold grave concerns about the future of a two-headed kitten born on Wednesday.
The head vet nurse at the clinic, who wanted to be known only as Leslie, told Radio 6PR she was surprised he survived the night
Despite the kitten’s two heads, the simultaneous meow from both mouths indicated he had one brain which controls all bodily functions, which have all been normal.
But there were concerns a problem existed in the kitten’s brain, because he had been exhibiting some unusual behaviour such as excessive head shaking.
At the moment the kitten is being nursed by his mother and, despite a cleft pallet, he is suckling from the better of his two mouths.
Leslie said it would take about three days to tell if there were any serious problems with the newborn.
The two-headed kitten has attracted the global attention of news services and curiosity seekers.
The story has popped up on web-based news sites in Britain, America and New Zealand and blogging sites around the world.

Louisa Burgess, a veterinary nurse who helped deliver the kitten, told InMyCommunity.com.au that she had never seen such an unusual animal in her 12-year career.
“I have seen cats with two tails and extra legs, but not this,†she said “It seems content, it meows and purrs.
“This is the result of a congenital deformity. Something has gone wrong in the early embryonic development.â€
