.avi to .wmv Converter?

Alright. So my 360 can now play .wmv files. This presents only one problem: All my files be .avi, yo.

I'm looking for a quick and dirty converter. Also, does anyone know if I can just slap the files onto a DVD and pop them into the 360 and they'll work? Or do I have to stream them from my PC?

    Same boat here.
Is there an "on the fly" converter for WMP11 that will convert .avi to .wmv when you select it from the 360?
Like, a program that would convert .avi to .wmv, store it in temporary location, stream the .wmv to 360, then when 360 stops viewing, would delete the .wmv?

    Click Transcode 360.

It's a neat little project, that currently supports MCE -> 360 transfer, but not yet the WMP11 transfer. It will be updated in a while I guess.

EDIT: and .avi is just a container, the real meat of the file is the codec. Most videos downloaded from the net are Xvid, so Transcode 360 will do for now.

You can use Windows Movie Maker to convert to WMV, but I don't know what version of the codec it is. Probably 9, but that should still work I imagine.
