Can anybody recommend a decent text editor for PHP/HTML/JavaScript? I've been using dreamweaver solely because I hate a lot of other common editors like Notepad++, Notepad2, Crimson, etc.. and it's the only program I've found that intelligently closes HTML tags which I cannot seem to live without now.
But it has a lot of problems that really irritate me, it's file manager view needs to be refreshed, half the time it doesn't load properly (displaying files in the wrong folders, etc) until a refresh. I could go on.
Does anybody use a program that is at least as handy with HTML text as Dreamweaver, but not as bloated? (I'm looking at YOU, Eclipse.)
Do not feel trapped by the need to achieve anything, this way you achieve everything.
Oh, hey I'm making a game! Check it out: Dr. Weirdo!
Dreamweaver CS4 is a big improvement over CS3, so if you can try that I recommend it.
The only other "good" editor out there for PC is Aptana, but it lacks a lot of handy DW features a lot of people use, and its file browser also has to be refreshed.
I use Eclipse, on both my Windows desktop at work, and my Linux lappy at home. It -- or more accurately, the community that has grough up around it -- is pretty great.
Then again, I also use Notepad2, a lot of the time.
I just use gvim for all my code editing needs. It has nice syntax highlighting and stuff like auto-indenting built right in, and for the most part you can use it like a regular editor (though there are a ton of power-user features under the covers). Might not be great for HTML though.

For Mac there's Coda and TextMate.

Also it is worth noting that DW CS4 will automatically refresh your file view in what seems to be a fairly reliable way.
I am actually considering dropping Aptana for it. Shocking since I have always been highly critical of DW.
