On furnishing a bedroom, Sumo lounge

So, I am redeploying back to the states soon, and I have sold/given away everything I own. So, I am looking to purchase all new furniture (and clothing, but that is another topic) I have all but settled on purchasing a sumo gigantor for my room. Both as a couch type seating arrangement, and a place to sleep. I am looking for a somewhat off the wall design for my room, and this would fit nicely with what I am looking for, I think. Along with some kind of cedar chest or something of the sort to store a comforter in when I am not sleeping. If anyone has any ideas why this would be a horrible horrible plan, or maybe some other bedroom decorating ideas. I would love to hear them.

tl;dr: Buying a sumo gigantor for sleeping/sitting, anyone with experience please chime in on whether this is a terrible idea

You will almost certainly kill your spine trying to sleep on that.

A beanbag for a bed is a god awful idea and you will have terrible horrible back problems

Get a bed, maybe lean some extra pillows along the wall so it can be a couch too, but you need a bed

I am fairly certain that if sleeping on a cot and on the roof of an armored truck hasn't ruined me for life, a soft squishy pad can't be much worse. Though I am also trying to find out if anyone has owned/used any of sumo's offerings, and can offer any first hand experience for me. All the reviews I have read speak of them as though they are god in bag form. But those aren't "real" people. Also, any other off the wall decorating ideas are more than welcome. I am literally starting from scratch here.

Fombag has something like that that is actually designed to be a bed. I guess its filled with twice as much foam per volume to offer better support or something. So maybe you should look into that.

I have slept on one at a friends house it wasn't very comfortable. I ended up moving to his sofa instead.
So I would go with others and suggest a bed. It's good for sitting playing games etc just not enough support to sleep on.

Same here. Now, obviously I'm used to a bed, so that might have had something to do with it, but still, they aren't the most comfortable things.

    Plus, the most important reason not to get one;

What if you have a girl over?

Multitasking a bed also isn't the best of ideas. When people associate beds with stuff besides sleeping, it tends to become harder to fall asleep in them. YMMV, but I know my habit of using my bed as a study platform gave me a bit of insomnia.

Ironically, this is the reason I was looking at the sumo sac in the first place, I have been told that someone wants to "test drive" one, I was excited about only needing a single bit of furniture in my room, since I tend to spend most of my time there, I want something comfy to sit on for movie time as well. I was hoping to avoid spending $2K+ on a mattress (If I do get a bed, it will be the best bed) but I suppose if it comes down to that, oh well.
anyone have any other odd styling ideas they have always wanted to try? keep in mind I am working with a relatively small space here.

Seriously, beanbag chair sex is one of those things that sounds hot, until you try.

It's much more awkward, much less relaxing, and cleaning up is a pain in the ass. Sleeping two people in one is cute and cuddly the first time, but night 3 you just want some space.

There's nothing wrong with getting a Sumo, but don't make it your primary sleeping quarters. Imagine sleeping, sitting, gaming, eating, and having sex all in the same chair.....Then make that chair very difficult to clean.

    How about a Futon?

Yeah that thing is going to suck as a bed. Worse than a cot or a roof of a truck or a concrete cell floor or pretty much anything else you could think of. The common thread on all of those is that they are flat, at least relatively. This is not, at all.

I own a similar one (not this brand but same size and similar filling). I also wanted to test drive it with my b/f. It's fun for about one sexy time, then it gets old and freaking annoying (for that purpose). Also yeah, the cover comes off, but do you really want to struggle with that beheamoth every WEEK to clean your "sheets"?????

As a "couch" replacement though, these things are pretty cool. My friends are obsessed with it and I love it in the living room.
