Is there any way I can cut power to my fan without opening my laptop? It's become obnoxiously loud. I think it's making contact with something, but I can't remove it to see without taking apart the entire cooling system and I don't trust myself with laptop surgery.
Speedfan, though I don't recommend it. It is time to have a repair done. If the fans die, it could end up costing much more than a cleaning and fan replacement.
I would, but I don't think a lot of repair shops around me carry Asus s96s fans. I'm still under warranty, but I can't be without my computer for the next few weeks. Will Speedfan do any damage as a temporary fix? Could I power up the fan again?
Speed fan allows you to power most fans down to a percentage, so they run quieter - and hotter. You can also under clock while you are doing that, but then you are losing performance as well.

Word of really important warning.
The fan in my laptop started making noise a few months ago and I just resorted to using compressed air to clean it because I thought it was dirty and I didn't want to be without my laptop. It turns out the GPU fan was failing slowly and this was an early warning.
Fast forward two months and my LCD screen is covered in dozens of vertical lines, my battery has outright failed and the average operational temperature of the laptop while browsing is 84 degrees.
I've essentially destroyed my laptop out of apathy. I suggest you do not make the same mistake.
Sounds like you need to beg/borrow/buy another laptop, transfer your all your stuff over, and send the broken one to get the warranty work done, ASAP. I've already seen more then one case where a fan started making funny noises, was ignored, and the computer burnt itself to death as a result.
If your like most people the information on your laptop and the time lost if it suddenly dies are worth exponentially more then a new laptop.
Shit guys, now I'm all scared. As dumb as it sounds, I've got a stand fan blowing on my laptop now. It seems to calm the laptop's fan down, but I'll get it in for repair right after finals.

Yeah, heat + laptop = death. The cooler you can keep it, the better.
Don't close it when it's running, turn it off at night or when it's not used and don't play anything graphic intensive.
