Has anybody donated comic books to charity before? I'm wondering whether taking a deduction on my taxes would be a good option. How is the deduction calculated, and how would I go about documenting what I donated?
I found a website (http://www.collectibleswithcauses.org), but I don't know anything about them, and they seem a little sketchy (they offer free vacations... "not a scam!").
I've donated comics to Value Village before. They put them in a box and labeled them "69 cents each" or a price like that. I left out anything that was too "racy" (Vampirella, for example) because I didn't want to cause them any trouble if a six year old bought it and asked, "Mommy, why is the naked lady taking a shower in human blood?"
I gave up on eBay and my local comic shops too. Old comics are hard to move (unless they're old enough to be the first issue ever of Superman or something.)
I believe MileHighComics.com will also buy comics. Probably at a very low price, but hey. Better than nothing.
