In regards to piano, so long as your fingers aren't too fat (they didn't look fat), you'll be fine. Long fingers are good for piano. If you play piano enough when you're young, your fingers lengthen by themselves. That's what happened to me and my brother.
Absolutely is. Just take a look at any long-term pianists' fingers. You also get it with violin players (Paganini's a great example of this). I've been playing piano since I was five, so my fingers are a bit longer than average. There was one time when I was in the local string orchestra on second violin that one of the ladies from the local orchestra told me that I had good, long fingers and I should try playing the viola.

you realize this doesn't actually prove anything, right? since long fingers are important to the ability to play the piano really well, really good piano players are likely to have long fingers. not because their fingers grow longer than normal as they play, but because those with naturally short fingers didn't stick with the piano as long, on average, as those with long fingers.
so I also have a hard time believing playing piano will actually lengthen your fingers. I'm sure it increases your hands' reach, but that's also gonna happen when you improve your fingers' ability to spread apart, not just when they get longer. has there actually been a good study done on this? googling didn't help me any.

Yes, I do realise that. Perhaps I should be more detailed: the lengthening of fingers tends to happen with those who play piano when they're younger. Of course, their fingers will grow naturally, but I read some study years back about how playing the piano consistently (and with proper technique) when younger will result in the fingers lengthening (and, of course, strengthening) more than they would if piano weren't played.
Dammit, I can't find the article anymore. And yeah, googling isn't helping.
I'm meeting this girl at Flinders for a sorta-date tomorrow and I need an original creative place to take her that will also not take more than an hour and a half
ACMI'd probably be a safe bet. Might be wise to check out That's Melbourne to see if there are any other decent events going on. I think there's some kind of street art thing on all around the CBD for three days (can't remember which three days). I'm quite annoyed that I can't remember what it's called now.
cant you just take her to a city street and listen to an artist moan about the world and talk about their life experiences while getting drunk off cheap red wine
