I recently have been upgrading my games and now are getting down to the nitty gritty. I have Marvel vs Capcom 1 for the PSone and Marvel vs Capcom 2 for the oXbox. But did I make the right choice?
I'm disappointed with Marvel vs Capcom 1 because the PS version has the Crossover Mode instead of the original 2 player opt mode, like in the arcade. Does the Dreamcast version fix that?
And for Marvel vs Capcom 2 is there any differance between the Dreamcast, PS2, or oXbox version that might be worth exchanging for?
But does the Dreamcast version fix the Crossover problem from the 1st version?
What crossover problem? I have had the game for years and never had an issue.
Can you choose two characters and switch between the two at anytime?
(ie Ryu and Captain Commando)
Yeah. Never had problems with it.
OK great ... I think Wiki explains the PSOne problem best: The PlayStation version of the game (titled as EX Edition in Japan), differs from the arcade version in that players are unable to switch characters on-the-fly, reducing the secondary character to an assist role only. Significantly, this removes the tag-team aspect of the game, which is considered by some to be one of its defining characteristics.[1] The PlayStation version instead offers a "Cross over" mode where each player chooses one character, and the second character for each team is a mirror of the opponent's pick. In this mode, the players may switch characters at will, but the teams must always be identical. This compromise is necessitated by the console's small memory size -- the use of identical teams alleviates the memory requirements.
Yeah, that's not an issue whatsoever in the Dreamcast one. You can even hook up four controllers and assign one player to each tag team character, it's really cool!
Yeah, the PSOne version is terrible but the Dreamcast version is essentially a near-perfect port.
And the Dreamcast version of MvC2 is an exactly perfect port, since MvC2 ran on the Sega Naomi arcade board, which was essentially a Dreamcast with a coin slot.
Apparently (going off the comments) some of the non-stage tracks are actually MIDI versions instead of recordings from the CPS2 sound hardware. I don't know if that's true, but they do sound different. But it's not a deal breaker whatsoever.
You can hear the slightly different arcade versions in this video:
Considering you get the Onslaught and Crossover mode and don't have to buy expensive arcade hardware, the Dreamcast version is a fantastic choice and maybe even preferable.
So the MvsC 1 DC is on it's way but is there really a differance worth selling and rebuying when it comes to MvsC 2 for the oXbox vs DC? I mean, something like more charactures or grafix?
The PSX got extremely shitty ports of all the Capcom Vs. games since its internal memory couldn't store shit. I remember renting the PSX X-Men Vs. Street Fighter and being amazed at how much animation was missing.
To this day, the only real home ports of X-Men Vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter are Saturn imports.
At any rate, I don't think there's any real reason to replace your oXBox copy of MvC2.
As a few people have already said, Dreamcast for both games.
The DC version of MvC is much more playable than the PSX version. As for MVC2, the oXBox has some annoying artifacting issues if you play it on a 360. Also, the XBox controller isn't great for the game. The DC and PS2 controllers provide a better experience.

DC version is about the closest you're going to get to the arcade version. DC 4 life!

MvC2 is the reason I still have my DC hooked up. So much staying power.
