Can't you use shift-click to get your demon to use a spell? I think that was the right button combination.

Grinding expertise in this game is pretty lousy. If they made it easier and removed the durability system I would have liked the game a bit more.

I've started my new character but I havent had much time to level her.

Say, do you think we can set up our own guild or join an existing one as a group? I was looking around a bit and mostly found childish guilds (you know, with lolcats and pedobears in their forum thread I'm 23 and not really that into Internet Meme Spewing). If anyone finds a cool guild please lemme know. I mostly just need people to talk to and maybe do some runs together.

If ya'll want, I can send you invites to BlackSun. Alternatively, we could set up a new clan, though we'd be missing out on the clan level 5 bonus in BlackSun. I'm only an officer, though, so I'm not sure I have all of the clan options that CJ would.

I just sent in an application for a more active guild. Nothing against you, but considering how casual we all are I don't think it'd hurt to fly in the slipstream of some bigger nerds here.

Whatever is decided I would like to join up with a guild.

Question though, my archangel now costs over 300m to summon, his cost has shot up dramatically recently, and I'm not sure when. My high pixie of a higher level is only 30 something. Is it just because he's a huge brute? Note I'm at "trusting" with him, and he's even offered me a demon quest (game crashed when I tried to click on his speech icon though).

Magnetite costs increase with the demon's level. They're decreased with higher friendship levels. The largest modifier, however, is their alignment in relation to yours. I'm assuming that since High Pixie is low cost for you, that you're very close to neutral, where Fairies are. Archangels are Divine, which is pretty deep into Law.

Just wait till you're in either Law or Chaos, and try to summon one of the opposite alignment for DCM recording. I'm bordering Chaos since I like Nocturnus demons, and summoning a Vile like Baphomet costs me 2000 Magnetite.

I knew they increased as they leveled, but it was quite the jump, as for alignment, I'm dead in the middle right now.

I really need to farm some items for Macca and mobs for some more Magnetite.

So I played in BlackSun at beta/release. But lost interest due to life getting busy shortly afterwards.

Thinking about coming back, but I have some questions:

Is there any word on whether or not they're going to keep supporting this game with content updates down the line? I'm a bit disappointed that Chain of Curse seems to be the only content update loaded so far.

How good are the item mall items, typically?

Is it still nintendo hard levels of hard? (This is a good thing.)

The GMs hold QnA sessions about once a week and we just had a patch fixing some long-standing localisation and stability issues. To me it seems like there's an active developer behind this, but it seems new content is tough for them. I have no idea why that is, it shouldn't be this hard to make some solo content past lv20[ish] and some cheap dungeons to run for massive xp would be awesome as well.

Item mall items are awesome: they're pretty, have interesting stats, weapons hold item slots and there's some cool pots and stuff to smooth the grind. What you have to keep in mind is that a lot of these items trickle down to the bazaars where you can pick them up for a few million macca. That's not cheap at all, but it means that with some sensible investments, enough patience and no problems with grinding you can buy the best items ever with in-game money. I have to be honest here: I used the cash shop and it's made my gaming experience quite a bit better.*

It's still hard, but if you're in a guild you can get help from higher levels, which will make stuff easier. But they can still die in one hit, so stuff remains tough.

*I bought Aeria Points for 20€, got a few extra points from their package deals and bought items while there was a 1st Time Buyer event and a Tiered Spending Event going on. So I spent ~18€ and got ~30€ worth of stuff out of it.

Well. This game is dangerously close to being on my shit list after this morning.

Signed back up with a new account, since I couldn't remember the details to my old one. Had a little fun. So I decided to drop some points on some Aeria Points since they have some pretty awesome promotions going on for new spenders/players.

So, they charge me for the points. Then suspend my account from making any purchases an hour later, with no warning or explanation, and set my AP to -1.

On top of that, I checked my bank account, and they nailed my account for the 20 bucks I spent, without giving me those points.

Just sent them an email asking what the fuck they think they're doing. Hopefully i'll receive some positive feedback and this turns out to be a minor cock-up on their end. Especially before their current selection of offers end.

If not, i'll just get my bank to do a charge-back, and never do business with this company again. I'm hardly concerned about being banned over this if it turns out they can't even provide products for the money they're being paid.

I feel ripped off, right at the moment.

Edit: On a more positive note, some thoughts about the game, as of right now:

Combat is very involved, and engaging. You're very much a glass cannon in most "types" of combat. However, given how the combat system works (Very active. Lots of leaping around/knocking enemies back.) this can be mitigated through some clever combos, or just waltzing into the room with the equivalent of a nuke strapped to your back, and blowing everything away before it even realizes you're there.

This is feasible, since, as far as I can tell, there is no requirement to wear most gear outside of alignment restrictions.

This game is ridiculously well populated, it seems. I've seen more people in the starting city/zone, then I do in the capital cities of some paid MMO's.

You can get some very unique/funny/stylish looks going. It seems there's an entire meta-game involving playing dress-up with your character.

    To date, I have seen:

-Some dude with wings, burning black, toting around a big fucking plasma cannon, hovering off the ground as if he had an early style Final Fantasy float spell cast on him.

-Another guy, a very burly looking guy, in fact, in swimming trunks, and nothing else, being carried around by a male bishonen demon cradling him to his chest. This made me crack up, when I saw it.

-A player named "AlbertWesker", who managed to copy Albert Wesker's look, from the later Resident Evil games, perfectly. And then made him fly around with a host of demons behind him, and slapped horns on his head for shits and giggles. This one had me rolling too, since I originally assumed it was some sort of cameo demon, ala Dante in Nocturne, before I noticed the lack of a space in the name.

The variation in animation and gear styles in this game is more then a bit nuts. Gear ranges from modern clothing, to cos-playing, to high def versions of past main characters/villains outfits, to some sort of weird Japanese fashion trends, to sci-fi clothing, to western clothing, to high fantasy/generic anime crap (Burning wings, a straight up DBZ style "powering up" aura around your character, etc, etc.).

Some P2P MMO's could take a hint from this level of variation. (Looking at you, Rift, and WoW.).

    I figured it out.
As a first time buyer, your account will be able to purchase 72 hours after creation. Once you have made a first purchase, your account is limited to one purchase a day, for the next three days after the first purchase. After the 3 days, you will be considered a registered buyer.

It's curious (And not in the good way.) that they neither mentioned this prior to me paying them money, nor during their promo offer for first time spenders (This puts me firmly out of getting the promo I needed, I believe. So the money I spent is shit-all useless now.). I had to dig down into their site to find this notification, under their billing help section.

Also, that despite their own policy, they decided to charge my account, set the AP to -1, and then lock it. Which reeks of some shadiness.

If they don't have this resolved by tomorrow, i'm just doing a charge-back on the account and saying the fuck with it. I don't need this crap.

Shame, too. The game itself is pretty fun, and the grind has been pretty non-existent so far.

I went from level 7 to 14, obtained a Jack Frost, Angel, and some sort of vampiric imp, in that order, today, from one solo Suginami Bronze run. And I did it with a broken down M1 Garand and a character in starter clothes, too. Apparently I haven't forgotten the fine art of combo locking with a gunner and a good demon.

Edit: Holy shit. Apparently someone from Aeria reads this topic. Because not ten minutes after I posted this, they unlocked my account, gave me my points (With the bonus.), and still haven't replied to my query concerning the issue yet.

THen, it takes a few months after things are released on Japan's servers for Aeria to localize enough of it to be playable on American servers, not to mention the testing period. Basically, the fact that all of the companies involved are pretty small means that updates will come slow, while item mall stuff gets pumped out like candy to keep interest going.

Yea, but item mall stuff is easy peasy, it just needs an English name and you're done. I wouldn't mind Megaten and Dynasty Warriors to get a bit more attention, they're both incredibly strong IPs and the games are actually decent.

So this game is pretty fucking addictive once you get your feet.

Also, get yourself some good gear. I've got a pistol forged from the hate of the combined souls of a slaughtered earth, that fires bullets that can apparently take down ancient gods in a few shots. I should rename my character to the SaintofKillers for shits and giggles, at this rate.

    Nevermind my clothes.

I've apparently transcended humanity to become an arch-angel of destruction, complete with floating and wings, if my look is to be gone off of, with some kicking shades to boot.

My pet also has 3X the MP and HP he should have, and does 40 percent more damage than he should, thanks to some clever SI's and accessory purchases on my part.

On that note, the item mall doesn't look nearly as good, when you realize that you can merge items together to get even better items that stack off of each other.

So some guy who throws down 30 bucks on a badass trench-coat forged from angel flesh or some-such crap, is still going to get his shit pushed in by the guy who threw down 30 bucks on a badass trench-coat forged from angel flesh, and actually played the game, getting combinable items in the process.
Or, if the item lets you, I guess the other guy could just combine said trench with another trench. And proceed to engage in curb-stomp battles of epic proportions. I haven't really figured all this shit out yet. There's an astounding number of features that aren't documented.

Like the Hacked Comp chips. Which are essentially repeatable (So long as you have more chips.) locked dungeons that let you get rare demons as a reward for completion, and give a ton of experience per run. I only learned of them by hearing of them in chat.

If the Japanese wiki is anything to go off, then there's a ton of content ready to be ported over. Which may explain the claims of improving the speed of localization from their current dev team, since I recall seeing some mention about "improving localization", on their web-page somewhere.

For comparison purposes on where they are, the Japanese version lets you get Metatron. As in, the voice of god (IE: The main villain in the series, so far, excepting a few spinoffs.) itself. Along with the dukes of hell.

I haven't delved into crafting at all. I've been busy unlocking chain expertises all week now, along with furthering the main plot as much as possible. I fused 50 demons with each other while high on 5x expertise incense and still only got to 1.3. I need 2.0 for Sharpshooter. Gah!

I did manage to fusion a flying holy cow together without intending to. And then I combined it with another demon and now I have a holy bird with shitty skills. The number of ways you can fuck yourself over in this game is astounding.

Speaking of demons, how is Hathor?

I figured out a combo to make an ancient goddess, but it's Law aligned (Like it seems most of the really good early demons are.), so using one would be pretty hard on my magnetite over time.

Also, I also figured out how to make a Pyro Jack Frost while in the first zone. It looks awesome. However, it's skill set is abysmal looking. I need to check to see what it combines into.

Keep in mind that demons gain skills as they level. It has its own base skills, skills it inherits from the demons you fused it from and a hidden set of skills it gains as it levels up.

One thing I can recommend is to make a demon with lots of different magic skills, at least get fire, frost and lightning on the same demon. Early on you won't have an idea what skills demons are weak to, and I found trial and error to be a great way to figure it out.

I should really look into crafting more, how did you learn about tarot and stuff like that? If I need to grind items, where did you get them from?

I was busy selling the left-over items from my splurge in the cash shop for mega moola, and some guy came up to me and decided to give me advice on how to reprice/sell my items for more.

We struck up a conversation, and about half an hour later, we got into talk of how to upgrade the items.

Soul Infusions can be done after doing a quest at Shinjuku Babel. I haven't gotten any tarot cards yet. However, Soul Infusion merges gear together. How it was explained to me, was that it essentially lets you:

A: Choose what you want to wear, while keeping the characteristics of one piece of gear. So you can look rather stylish, while being effective, provided the gear you're wearing is decent (And most of it is. Cash shop/the best gear seems to cap out at 11 phys defense, barring exceptions such as phys aligned gear, and then just takes on bonuses to attribs/skills/chances depending on what gear it is. So gear seems largely cosmetic once you hit the mid-game and get set up with what you need. This doesn't apply to accessories, however.).

B: Can make some really overpowered gear, if you spend the time finding the right gear to merge.

Given what i've seen of Tarot's, I assume that they're much the same way. Pick up a card, merge it into that "slot" in an item, and get the bonuses. I haven't found any places to farm them yet, though I suspect it can be done in the gold tier dungeons.
    yet.

Edit: Some notes on how to set yourself up with a nigh-unstoppable character in PVE, in the next ten to twelve hours, if you don't mind spending twenty-five dollars.

    (Spoilered for long)
I should mention that a tiered spender promo ends in about 14 hours. Get to 2500/5000, and you're pretty much set for making any kind of character. The 2500 bonus gives you a Black Weapon (A really nasty weapon specializing in one type of damage, IE, melee, guns, or magic, and isn't a pushover in the other categories, either.).

And the 5000 bonus gives you a Symbols data ticket, which essentially super-charges your demon into being a power-house of mass destruction via some blinged out armageddon themed jewelry(That shows up on your char.) while giving you a constant 120 percent EXP gained from kills/quests.

Between that, and the 2500/5000 points you'd have to spend (Which is pretty steep. The cost of a game, really, depending on which goal you set for yourself. So make sure you enjoy the game first.), you can buy a decent set of clothes, and splurge on mystery boxes for gear to sell to set yourself up with about 5 million macca or more.

Which is more then enough to pretty much keep you rolling in badass items/opportunities until the end-game.

Also, each tier you reach gets you a premium mystery box. Which has the possibility to give you a Nightmare Jack Frost. A bus sized Jack Frost that starts at level 1, with 1K MP and HP, and some of the best ice themed elemental skills i've seen in the game so far.

Lord only knows what sort of skills it'll have by 99. I saw a level 80+ skill on a Rainbow of Victory type Jack Frost, that let him hit something so hard, it ruptured the space time continuum, so... Yeah.

Edit: Here's the main gun i'm using by the way. I have a Black Weapon (Para-Bellum), too. But it seems it's damage isn't as godly as this thing's.

    2u3y7ps.jpg

The scary thing about that gun? If I knew a good crafter, I could upgrade it, again, into this:

Even though I can't use it in combat (Apparently there are level capped items, though they only start showing up at 60 from what I can tell.), I could potentially use it as crafting materials.

If I understand the item merging system properly, I could then merge that gun into my Para-Bellum, and get a gun that does increased death damage, about 40/40+ LNR skill, and (Depending on what's merged when merging.) about 20/30 percent more damage per shot, on top of the percentage damage boost Para-Bellum has. Para-Bellum increases your shot damage by .3 percent per level without an upper cap.

I could basically be two-shotting bosses and players by the end-game!

Also, it's just plain cool to walk around with a colt that the Reaper uses to harvest victims.

A word of warning before you start spending all your money on cash shop items: Watch out for durability. The last thing you want is to have your mega-upgraded, taroted, soul stone'd weapon drop to /10 durability and be useful for less than half of a dungeon. Save some cash for Repairs and Hyper Repairs to reverse the durability loss.

Another word of warning: there's a small chance your weapon is destroyed when you add stuff in slots. I just had this happen to me. Cash shop weapon destroyed...just like that. :( Had to buy a new gun for 200k.

As I understand it, cash shop repairs restore max durability. You shouldn't waste them to repair something.

Rather, head back to civilization and repair something there. If you get a sizable dura drop, use a hyper repair then.

Edit: On merging items, from the wiki:
If you succeed with the fusion, that means that the weapon or clothing you made has those stats forever (or until it breaks, but that won't happen, will it?). But if you fail, you must re-fuse it with something else before a certain date (Usually 10 or 30 days) or it will be removed from your inventory.

Also, i'm pretty sure you can buy durability MAX repair items. According to the wiki they're a bit expensive for new players, though. 100K a pop.

However, it shouldn't be an issue for most weaponry until mid-game. And if you dump a bunch of points into wanted Vouchers/Data Tickets, you'll pretty much never have to worry about it, if you can find the shop to buy them at.

I also found another hidden feature (Hidden in that if you never talk to the right NPC, the combat feature is apparently never activated.)

Fusion attacks. Which let you burn "stocks" on your comp to do super attacks:

    http://wiki.aeriagames.com/megaten/index.php?title=Fusion_Skills

I also found the un-marked "eye clinic" in Home 3. It's somewhat hidden. And lets you have your eyes replaced (D:) for large sums of money.

Oh yeah, Fusion Skills are OP as all hell. Get your Cerebus or a Poltergeist in your COMP and you will have two extremely strong fusion attacks, Cerebus gives a huge Fire attack and Poltergeist does the same with Force.

Like, I do about 2k damage with them. It's definitely not something you should waste on regular trash, because it's on a big CD, it takes a while for the gauge to refill, it costs mag to cast and the casting time is roughly 2 seconds, during which both you and your demon are vulnerable.

Other demons give other skills. So far I have had healer types give a big-ass heal and melee types a gigantic buff to a party member. I'm pretty sure other demons have other tricks up their sleeves, but as with most insanely OP stuff, it's hard to find any definitive data anywhere.

*e: oh that wiki page is actually pretty thorough.

My Archangel appears to call down a huge fucking lightning strike from heaven to smite my foes when I do his fusion attack. Fuck yeah.

Heck, even my pixie is pretty badass. She just chain-heals everyone to full HP.

You should check out Alice's. Meteo Crash is bloody ridiculous. It's like calling down the fist of God. It annihilates everything it touches (yay Almighty). I haven't even seen what Purest Prestige, the stronger version of Meteo Crash, looks like yet.

I'd totally play again if she was. I stopped because I missed getting her.

I already have some plans made to get Meteo Crash. I just need to get my grubby fingers on an almighty capable demon, and i'll be good to go. As far as I can tell, it's the only feasible way to get an almighty based caster outside of some really tough to find gear choices.

So far, my main line-up is literally one-shotting silver tier Suginami bosses with my angel's lightning smite attack. And potentially, once I test this next fusion attack, my Dragon God's force vacuum.

Also looking at the rebirth system. What is the bonus, exactly, for rebirthing a demon of the same type? I can't find any mention of it. But it seems like a way to super-charge a demon you're particularly fond of.

    Rebirth in a nutshell.

Rebirthing boosts your demon's stats depending on what type you change them to. Each time you rebirth it into a type, that type level increases by one, which affects the starting statistics of the demon in question. Every time you rebirth a demon, it keeps any and all stat boosts it previously had.

For example, if you have a Jack Frost, whose growth is Hagalaz, then at level 1 Hagalaz you'd have the base stats. If, however, you rebirthed the Jack Frost, each time using Hagalaz runestones, then you'd eventually end up at level 9 Hagalaz, which gives the Jack Frost a starting bonus of +16 to both the CLS-R and Spell stats. Should you then rebirth the Jack Frost to a level 9 Peorth, then the Jack Frost would have both the level 9 Peorth and level 9 Hagalaz starting bonuses, for a total of +16 to CLS-R and +48 to Spell. As you can probably tell, rebirthing makes for some seriously overpowered demons.

You can do an almighty-based caster pretty easily, actually. The upgrade items needed for almighty damage boosting isn't too expensive. The main problem is the MP and magnetite cost (Megidoraon costs 80 MP and 200 mag per shot). You can throw Almighty spells onto other demons readily as long as you're willing to grind them to the level required to learn the spell.

I only recall there being the Alice event, has she been gettable some other way now?

I'd totally play again if she was. I stopped because I missed getting her.

There were three Alice events, actually. The first time was a contest which ended up with a few gaining the regular Alice. The second and third times were promotions that gave away Joyful Alice vouchers. Joyful Alice suffers from -20% XP gain, but boosts your own Strength, Speed, Magic, and Luck by +5.

A regular Alice can still be obtained, but you need 300 Essences of Yetzirah to unlock her plugin. Essences can only be obtained by completing a Hack Chip Alpha, which is a special dungeon that can only be bought for 75 AP each (though prices are now at 70-80k macca per chip and slightly less for essences).

The special demon plugins all cost an increasing number of essences. Little Devil Lilim costs 70, Girimehkala 150, Alice 300, Matador 500, Hell Biker 750, and Mara 800. This, however, is INCREDIBLY deceptive. You see, Matador sounds like he only costs 500 Essences, but the problem is that to FUSE Matador you need a trifusion of Girimehkala, Alice, and Loa. As you can see, that actually increases Matador's true cost to a ridiculous 950 essence. At $1 per 100 AP, and at 75 AP per chip, that works out to over $700 for Matador.

So after saying this, I check out the item mall and see a nimble alice on sale.

I'm assuming she can still be used in combat. What about the durability on the ring? Does that go down as you use a mount? Can you repair it? I havent played since the game first launched, so I remember pretty much nothing at all about it. I mean, 3000 points is quite a bit if I can only use it for a limited time, but if its permanent, that'd be awesome and totally worth it.

All Nimble demons can be used in combat, but they take a massive stat and ability penalty in return for mounting capability. Nimble Alice's stats are practically half of what they'd be for an equivalent regular Alice, and she doesn't learn Megidoraon by herself, for example. That said, Nimble demons aren't meant to be used in combat at all, since demons don't touch you while you're mounted.

While simply equipping the ring doesn't decrease its durability, you lose durability as you ride your mount. You can repair it, but it's a constant repair so you'll need a steady supply of macca and Repair items.
