Does anyone know if going into Settings and changing the difficulty to Hard will affect my current play through?
I'm about 40 hours in, but haven't been completing too many quests. I have almost 50 Stimpacks, all kinds of weapons and over 4,000 caps. It's not really been challenging.
You can change the difficulty mid-fight if you want and it instantly makes the fight easier or harder, depending which direction you went.
Is kind of neat that it lets you adjust on the fly.
So I just lost 4 hours of my day to this game. I'm getting really good at the combat (I sucked earlier). I now have a nice stockpile of weapons and stuff and I'm all pew pew.
Any good early mods out there right now? People where doing some cool stuff before geck was out, and not that its out we will probably see some 'must haves' soon.
Personally I want binoculars so I can scope out terrain from a distance, like the ones in Stalker.
Starting a melee/energy weapon/partial explosives character on very hard is actually proving to be fairly difficult for me The Greyditch quest with all the ants is seriously kicking my ass.
By being a total prick to Grouse, even good Karma characters can get the Mezzer. Epic. Learn something new every day in the irradiated wastes
Yeah, I got the mezzer, killed every one of those slavers, set free the slaves, then when I went to help the ex-slaves I enslaved one of the generic ones. He will go there and truly know not to enslave, lest ye be slaved as well.

I used slave way too much.
I enslaved the unique people, armed them with good weapons and armor, and released them. I wanted to kill the slavers but still have access to the slaver merchant. It worked out well all in all.

It's funny that you can melee them to death very easily as long as you're facing only one. They turn so slowly that you can mince them using a Chinese Sword or what have you.
If there's more than one, shoot them in the antennae. If you've got explosives then even better, as grenades aimed at the head will almost always cripple the antennae.
Don't fret though; Grayditch is meant to be really, really hard. Suffice it to say you get a chance to vent your frustration. :P

I don't know about all that.
All I know is that I'm saving up ridiculous numbers of Mini Nukes and am going to put my fully repaired fatman to good use when I finally decide to go do that quest.
I've been going around in a nice set up gear till now. Vances longcoat, shady hat, and lucky sunglasses...
I've finally done the Reiley's rangers quest, and good as the amour is, I'm having difficulty forcing myself to upgrade to it.
Its got like four times the damage resistance, but I lose a point of perception and charisma, and frankly it just doesn't look as cool...
I think Ranger armor is the best non-power armor protection in the game.
Me, personally, I downloaded a mod that lets you get power armor training when you become friends with the outcast, and walk around in my slick as fuck black power armor pretending I'm some kinda stealth super techno assassin ninja

It is pretty much the best armor. Most of the power armors only have 40 DR. Tesla Armor has 43 DR. The ranger armor has 39 DR. The only one with much better DR is the T-51b power armor. It has 50 DR, but it can only be repaired by NPCs. It also weighs a lot and doesn't increase your strength.
Owing to the fact that I apparently skipped the GNR part of the main quest, I really have no direction whatsoever to find Threedog, and have been searching all through mutant occupied DC... could someone maybe give me a hint? Someone mentioned
a Behemoth outside the GNR station probably not spawning because of how I skipped this part of the quest, but I do see one here near Takoma Industrial... am I getting warm?

No. You could just use an online map. If you don't want to get spoiled, I can just give you the general location.

Only reason I don't wear the ranger armor is it weighs 27, which is 27 less loot I can carry.
I love having loot!
My klepto unarmed character was like that. I can go out with less than 10 weight and come back with 290 pounds of crap! Why do I need over 100 bottles of Nuka Cola and 100 shot glasses? Who knows?

You've got to prioritize man. You need at least a 10 to 1 ratio of caps to weight for the loot to be worthwhile. Scavvin' ain't easy. 8-)

I can easily quick travel to my home in megaton. Most dungeons don't have that much worthwhile loot and I repair everything I can we I find it so I usually have enough room to just pick up some random crap. Of course, it doesn't really matter now that I have an insane amount of caps.
So I finally made it to level 20 and I am just on like the 3rd or 4th mission and have done most of the side quests, I love this game though i wish I would find more alien blaster ammo though i just haven't been looking hard enough.
O well I don't have a problem killing stuff but I love this game and can't wait to replay it again that is after I have everything done but there's still things I want to explore and do.

Course, I usually used a lot of them due to my bad luck of having missiles aimed.
At my face.

On the plus side, they have nice armor for me to wear.
Its not as good as combat armor, defense wise.
But it looks so much better. Game needs more black armor besides Talon Armor and Outcast Power Armor.
Also, wait until you get higher levels and they start nade spamming and aiming missiles at your head.
Right now I'm wearing Talon armor in perfect condition, and the goalie mask with +5 DR and extra AP. I look freaky.
And that is when you discover you can use vats to shoot grenades in midair... and suddenly they don't seem so terrible anymore...
A deathclaw gauntlet would complete that ensemble superbly.
Sometimes the nades land before you get full control to get into vats or clear the bomb range
This is where an auto-VATS option would help.
I say option because i know a lot of people wouldn't like it.

or did i, is it normal?
It's pretty much normal. There's simply so much to do that Level 20 is reached fairly rapidly.

This is an image of the location of GNR on the in game map. It doesn't have any of the names of the areas around it, but it should be enough for you to find it.
GNR is a real bitch to find without the quest markers leading you there. I spent days looking for the right metro/tunnel to find GNR.
I think he's asking about hte path to take and not where GNR is, which I cant help with atm.
I'm pretty sure that if you place your own marker on the GNR location, it'll lead you there just like a quest marker.
I love having loot!
Even with a quest marker it's a pain to find the right way in this area. I know where I want to go. I just don't know how.
Edit: I have met with 3Dawg, but it took a long time of walking around and eventually stumbling over the right way.
My god, a headshot that was just at the very fringe of visual range is so sexy.
