So gays.
It has been a while since we have had a musical theater thread. Yes I tried to make an opera thread that died after two pages even with people trying to make it into a musical theater thread.
Musical theater is some awesome shit.
Let me tell you.
What you want to know what to listen to? Simple.
Listen to:
I was looking at the Ceiling and then I saw the sky (John Adams) - Available on Amazon music, Ruckus Music, and Naxos Music library
Floyd Collins (Adam Guettal) - Available on Amazon Music and Ruckus music.
Myths and Hymns (Adma Guettal) - Available on Amazon Music and Ruckus music.
Everything written by Stephen Sondheim with the exception of "The Frogs" and "Bounce" but really the first two songs in "Bounce" aren't
too bad (Stehpen Sondheim) Available fucking everywhere.
Guys Andrew Lloyd Weber only knows two chords. You may think his musicals are awesome. Unless you are talking about Jesus Christ Superstar you are wrong.
Also you may think that Spring Awakening is cool. You are worse faggots than the faggots.
Also Passing Strange should've won the tony, not In the Heights.
So SE++
Musical Thread.
Talk about Musicals.
Posts
Fuck ya'll.
edit:
Also got to see phantom of the opera on broadway.
yum.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
TRADITION
And a super-skinny asian dude did "If I were a rich man"
BEST. PERFORMANCE. EVER.
Mega gay
I can't even see how it would be possible, I would pay to see that
Because fuck you homophobe.
I'm too good for Andrew Lloyd fucking Webber
Look I and V have their place.
But after 46 shows that only have two fucking chords it gets fucking old fuck fuck fuck.
Hey have you ever heard the "Lloyd Weber Love trio"? It's three Lloyd Weber ballads put over each other.
That should never fucking work
I hate to agree with Zot, but he is right.
If you don't appreciate the original cast of Phantom, specifically one Sarah Brightman, you are a tremendous douche.
End of statement.
that is all
Cast, fine.
Music, I refuse.
I can, from memory, play everything JRB has ever written, purely because of the number of auditions I play with people who do his stuff.
Also every fucking time anyone hears my music they say something akin to "You kind of sound like JRB"
songs for a new world punches me in the face with awesome though
as does last five years
Right yeah I liked that song that went "dun dun DAHHHH dun dun DAHHHH" Which one was that again?
THE ENTIRE FUCKING SCORE.
BUt right, the lyrics were also good.
My favorite lyrics were "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah/blah blah blah blah blah blah."
Then try to tell me that "Summer in Ohio" is worth fucking anything.
WHERE'S MONKEYFEET
ALSO HERE COMES YAYA'S MUSICAL OPINIONS
first off fuck you In The Heights is fantastic
Andrew Lloyd Weber is a hack, a hack with no peer, the only good song he's ever done is King Herod's song
yeah Spring Awakening's pretty fucking bad
JRB consistently rocks face, I was learnt how to sing Shiksa Goddess with my singing teacher and goddamn is it difficult but it made me so much better as a singer and I probably should learn Moving Too Fast or The Schmuel Song too
and I'm seeing Avenue Q five times when it comes to my town because it's the best musical of all time
also Wicked is overrated
Who me?
anyway follow up opinion and questions
the Legally Blonde musical is surprisingly good
Khavall: what're your opinions on the Wild Party and I Sing!
I had no idea who he was before hand.
Dude is pretty rich.
In The Heights is fine. But Passing Strange is better
One of the dudes for an ensemble I play for for the "Solo Set" decided to do Moving Too fast. It is childs play.
You want difficult tenor music? "Hero and Leander" and "Saturn Returns" bitches.
Also Wicked is awesome. I am the biggest schwartz fag.
but but but I'm a baritone
and no Wicked's merely okay
then again I think it has Twilight syndrome
any good qualities (not saying Twilight has good qualities) are overshadowed by the screaming fangirls who proclaim it the best thing ever
Defying Gravity's a fantastic song though
also Spamalot is good and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is much better live than it is on the soundtrack
No.
Lippa wild Party of LaChuisa Wild Party.
I love Lippa, mostly because he gets this amazing naturalistic tone on piano, and he just sounds like musicians fucking around.
LaChuisa on the other hand..... He does his job, he gets paid, he gets out. Which is fine, but that's what he's doing.
Also Legally Blonde is awesome.
I dunno
uh
whichever one has Good Old Fashioned Lesbian Love Story in it
Wicked though... I love Schwartz. And I love Schwartz because he is aware of who he is. Wicked didn't try to be serious or emotional, and yeah, the 14 year old girls ruined it, but it at its core is a beautifully carefree and joyus score that is executed well.
Best music ever? No. But it's damn enjoyable.
Whedon haters
and/or stage adaptation
also does anyone know City of Angels because that is a shithot show

In which case, I love Lippa. My biggest problem as a composer is that I am structured to an extreme. Lippa feels so free that I listen to him all the time to try to get that added into my composition.
Way to be a horribly uninformed fag.
You wanna know two composers who wrote Musicals?
Gyorgi Ligeti
and
John Adams.
Traditional, commercially successful musicals:Traditional contemporary classical Opera :: Checkers:chess.
Dr Horrible score!
it's missing like three songs but fuck it it's got Freeze Ray and Brand New Day
