So I just opened up the case and am looking at the instruction manual.
This character art is so Goddamned fantastic.
The character designs are by the same guy who did FFXII. The high-def version of Refia ties Penelo for cute factor, IMHO, and even the "low-def" versions of the characters look and animate great. Akihiko Yoshida is easily my new favorite character designer at Square now; I really really hope they put him on Revenant Wings so he can set that game's art straight.
Also, am I the only guy who juggled the names around a bit? Luneth became "Rune", Refia became "Lissa", and Ingus became "Gustav" in my game.

Well, jobs are accessible to me now. I'm digging the FFT feel to the character portraits.
woah id never have expected an intro that good even of a psp!
is it all on one screen?
Nope, you can search for FF3 on Youtube to see videos people took of it on their DS. It uses both to show the behomoth, for example, and of the girl in the shaft of light.
Yep, Arc went straight to white mage. Refia went straight to Red Mage .
So I guess Monks just suck? It didn't take me long to decide to switch Ingus's job.

Yeah, my monk does terrible damage. I'm switching him to be a thief I think.
So have you guys tried out Mognet yet? Feel free to add me
How does that work? It sounds like it's basically a small network email system. How many friends can you have total? Can you send each other items?
I'll be taking advantage of it as soon as I get the game...
28 friends, I have no idea what it does, because nobody has posted their code yet.
I did read that you have to use it to unlock some kind of bonus or hidden thing.
Several small sidequests depend on use of Mognet. Including...
[realspoiler:3efb0b63a8]Unlocking the Onion Knight job.[/realspoiler:3efb0b63a8]
What, seriously? Goddamit. I fucking hate that. I don't have wifi or any way to get it.
Hotels, libraries, bookstores, coffee shops, airports, fuck even McDonalds has free wifi. I'm sure you can find some way to get your DS online.
I'm in the Deep South. I'd be very surprised to find someplace with wifi, although I suppose it's possible. Still, I really fucking hate it that they've made a major, major secret of the game only accessible via an arbitrary bonus feature. Goddammit Square. Goddammit.

I haven't seen anything totally confirming it yet. There might be another way of unlocking it, hold tight for a few days.
So, I'm going to try like hell to get this game tomorrow.
I hope its a long game, seriously. I want it to last me until at least past Thanksgiving. : /
Thanksgiving? Hmm. If you play it at very long blows I'm not sure it'll last THAT long, but they may have added a bit of length to the game compared to the NES version.
Unless you do 12 hour marathons though, it'll last you a week easily.
Who else made Arc their white mage? His mannerisms just cried out "I'm no fighter!" to me.
Arc is a total mystery to me. The game says he's a he, but he does not look anything like a he. He doesn't even move like a he. It's like they originally had the character down to be a second girl character but changed it at the last minute.
Edit: Whoops redundancy

My entire party just got stoned. Like, as in, turned into.

At most I'll probably do 2 hours here and there. I no longer have the ability to concentrate on one thing for so long, anymore.
So I picked this up this evening. Looks pretty good, but Ill probably wait a few days to start it; FFV beckons me to it.
Heh, while at the Gamestop to get it, there was a guy there who looked like and was as big as Hagred from Harry Potter also picking up FFIII. It was funny.
Oh cool, they really improved Scholars for this game. Not only do they have magic now but they're basically Chemists, all items doubled in effectiveness for them including magic attack items. I mean they're still probably not going to be standbys, but they sound much more useful.
EDIT:  Geomancers.[spoiler:50e2cf2b51]They may be actually useful in this game. The guide I am looking at says their first few bells are the most powerful weapons of their time, and the terrain magic is not bad either. This is great, I always wanted the Geomancer to be something I could use more because I love the concept.[/spoiler:50e2cf2b51]

Yeah, I gave a long, low whistle when I read the description of the Scholars. They buffed the hell out of them (and Refia looks cute as a Scholar to boot, though I won't make her one. ) Don't the books also do Elemental damage? The description mentions "mystic power".

So, Sporky, from one FFIII veteran to another, how awesome is this on a scale of 1 to Rock? My gamestop doesn't have any copies yet.
I, uh, still don't have it yet. :P I am just anxious and am looking at guides and stuff and can talk about it because I know the original game pretty well. But it sounds like it's way up there.

Well, maybe I read it more positively than I should've...I'll still be giving them a solid try. His full entry:
[spoiler:7d29eec4a8]Although the Geomancy class presents itself as more of a magic-oriented class from top to bottom, let's get this out of the way: for a long while there, this class is an attacking powerhouse. All three normally encountered bells are generally the most powerful weapons at those points in the game - by a fairly large margin. Their physical defense is also quite respectable as well falling generally halfway between that of a physical fighter and that of a magic user. However, both these weapons and armor eventually becomes dated and you're better off sending them to the back row. All this being said, they are a more magic oriented class at heart. Terrain is generally more powerful than back magic at no cost, but unpredictable. The usefulness of such an attack varies from environment to environment, but not that much: Terrain is generally a more powerful, less limited attack than a typical black magic spell, although less powerful and much less limited than the most powerful black magic spells. In a couple of the areas, geomancy more or less reigns supreme. In most areas, it can be quite annoying to see the same insta-kill moves kill or that disappointing attack they do sometimes.[/spoiler:7d29eec4a8]

At points it utilizes both screens, which *I* thought was totally awesome. :P YMMV I suppose.
And yeah, now I need to [spoiler:cfdbdd6913]climb the west tower to get the undead slaying sword.[/spoiler:cfdbdd6913]
Can't wait.

And saw that it is totally for hardcore RPG fans, and not pussies like me.
And my preordered copy just entered the shipping stage on Amazon, so I can't cancel.
Fuck.
Oh well, it looks fun, just too hard.
[spoiler:7fc0799b05]Wasn't "onion knight" the name of the default job in FFIII(J)?[/spoiler:7fc0799b05]
So I guess Monks just suck? It didn't take me long to decide to switch Ingus's job.
Heh, Refia just SCREAMS "Make me do massive damage!" Even in mannerisms she's easily my favorite character now.
Ingus so totally has to be a Fighter/Knight/etc though, come on. Luneth strikes me more as the sneaky type.
I'm making him my white mage also.
