Yes they are. Also kind of relatively when you'd meet them in-game (1-226).

    So uh...
[spoiler:77b62575d1]I got to the crystal tower and ran around collecting all the badass weapons. I got to a room where I could finally buy damn lvl 8 magic but I can't figure out where to go from here. The room with the magic selling chicks had a nice wellspring so I figured a battle was pending but I can't find one. I switched one of my guys to a Sage to bust out lvl 8 spells and am working on raising her job level outside the tower. Any tips on where to go from here?[/spoiler:77b62575d1]

I just got there. I think its a dead end. From the the lobby where you entered that dungeon, I think there's another door that will take you farther. I don't think I'm ready to progress, so I just backed out of that dungeon and ran off to grind a bit.

Oh, and must I use online Mognet? Do quests get unlocked if I used local wireless? I can't be bothered to go through hoops just to accomodate the USB wifi connector while keeping my local network functions intact (the official Ninty software 'blocks' local network connections i.e. other computers connected to the same hub).

    So, dear FIII people,

I've never played a final fantasy game before...but I have however, watched my wife as she played through FFX and Tactics on the GBA and it looks like a something that for me would fit my DS playing very well (quick battles every now and then, and long lasting). So my question is: should I hold off for FFVI nest year or just buy this one?

This might be a nice introduction into the series, other than that it's farily hard/grindtastic. If you want something now, FF4 on GBA might be more representative of the series.

Everyone says it's really hard, but I just finished the dungeon with the second crystal, and I've been smoking every boss with minimal effort. My characters are all level 26, though... am I really that far ahead of the curve, or are the brutal ass-kickings going to sneak up on me?

Er, I'm two dungeons past the second crystal and only level 21, and getting my ass kicked.

Which sucks because I feel like I've grinded a *lot*, but apparently nowhere near as much as I should be.

If that's really the case I might just stop playing altogether. :|

Best thing I've found to be ready for the bosses in dungeons is to play through the dungeon when you get there, and when you come across the last room with the boss teleport out. Save, then dive right back in. Worked a charm for me, and I didn't need to grind at all. Fighting all the way in both times.

Asked this a few pages back, after kicking ass in eureka, is the last chance to save just outside the crystal tower?

I personally slogged my way through dungeons then went back out the long way to earn some more exp. As a general guide line, you should be about lv55 to have an easy time with the final boss, although if you have high HP (thanks to levelling Monk or whatever) then you may start earlier. I'd advise scrapping all notions of keeping spoilers locked up and go through some FAQs to find the side dungeons (alternatively use Sight magic or Goblin Bread on the world map, it just displays every possible entrance on the map), if you don't want to bore yourself grinding repeatedly at some location.

If you encounter a tough opponent, Teleport is a guaranteed escape. Just pray your caster is fast enough.

carbon13: You can save outside the crystal tower, you have to be in the world map of course. No saves inside a dungeon or a town or whatever. At all.

So I've been job leveling my Onion Knights up to 99, but I haven't seen any stat boosts.

Do you only get the crazy bonuses if you level the actual *character* as opposed to the job? I think I must have missed something.

Bahamut's cave is the best, 5700 or 3800 xp from every battle.

Although job levels aren't worthless either, the characters will be better than they would've been at level 99, job level 1...except if they're always doing 9999 anyways, well.

I was afraid of that. I thought that I'd read there was an enemy that constantly summons during battle. I had hoped to just keeping killing the summons to increase xp but I guess that won't be happening. Rats.

Oh, there're little tentacle enemies in the crystal tower that keep summoning weak mage thingies. But there are negatives to that method:

    a) you can only get one job level in a battle at most
    b) you have to pay attention to who is attacking what; in Bahamut's cave you can just keep tapping A

My desired endgame job levels are all at 99 so I'm just looking to character level at this point. You make a good point about having to pay attention though....killing the summoner in question would make the exercise somewhat pointless.

Back to Bahamut's cave it is!

My favorite starting team is warrior/thief/monk/red mage. Keep the thief and red mage for a long time, change the warrior to knight, maybe change the monk to something like geomancer.

As a general rule, most magic in this game is undercut by a nice, powerful melee man. But you do want some source of white magic at all times.

Someone tell me what team to make so that I will be awesome.

    Alright.

Is Thief the strongest melee class? My friend was highly impressed with his thief's ability to deal damage.

I just got this game yesterday for my birthday. I haven't even opened it yet.

Honestly can't remember for the end game, but as long as they have decent weapons compared to the warrior types attack power (there can be long times inbetween upgrades for daggers) Thieves will kick ass because they will do more hits.

Many melee classes are created equally. Knight is probably the "strongest" just due to his ability to wear the heaviest armors. Ninjas and black belts may do more damage than him though. Thieves are not very strong, they just job level fast and get a lot of hits in, making their damage more equal to the big guys. They lose out somewhere in mid-game but then get it back when the throwing weapons like boomerangs come into play.

Way past the Nautilus dude. That thing is parked God knows where. I've had the ship that jumps mountains for some time now.
Gotta use the Nautilus, big guy is too slow to get by the wind.

    O:

Wind? I get the feeling I'm missing a continent or something I need to check this out. In the FAQ it never mentioned going back to get the Nautilus.

Nono, what else do you see close by? Something that sticks out near one of those caves, perhaps?

[spoiler:cb9363b6ad]Something that looks like a wrecked ship, maybe?[/spoiler:cb9363b6ad][/quote]

Thanks. I thought i ran into with the boat but I guess not. I will try again later. I thought it was strange to have something there.

Well now I am going to change my monk out to a geomancer and have a party of

    Knight
    Geomancer
    Thief
    RMG
