Yeah, 5 minutes in to the game you get "Destroy 3 of their tactical structures". So I take my 2 light frigate fleet into their space looking for tactical structures and the only ones are on their homeworld, where I would get raped by anything they decide to pump out before I could possibly kill any structure.
I hope the second expansion improves on this. Right now, I don't really think the game should be called a RT4x, as Stardock does, but the second expansion might just change this.
I've heard all kinds of stuff about XP64 being shit. Can you upgrade to Vista 64?
I'm poor at the moment. Was a stupid stupid choice when I built my computer. But 64-bit was just getting big, and I had a brand new, 64-bit proc.. Was all excited. Didn't bother doing any more than minimal research. "Oh yea! It can actually use the whole processor.. and it'll use all of my RAM.. Yay!.. Wait.. nothing is supported? Nothing? Awesome. "

If you have Vista 32-bit you can get 64 bit for S+H from Microsoft. I don't have a link, but it's free to change between them in terms of license.

I don't. I have windows XP 64-bit Edition. Which is the precursor to Vista that everybody just kind of skipped over. Things were supposed to get better after vista, as the 64-bit drivers and apps were supposed to go both ways.. But that didn't really happen.

Saying XP-64 is the precursor to anything is kind of like saying the Westboro baptist church is the precursor to Christianity
I've also managed to play single player ffa by locking the teams. Fuckers can't ally with each other against you then. Besides, do you really want a dumb as bricks teammate always yelling at you about stuff? It's bad enough when someone leaves in a multiplayer game and the AI takes over. :?
Apologies for my absence over the weekend, I'm sure you all missed me greatly.
My motherboard decided to discard it's chipset fan in a most random fashion and as a result it overheated and is no longer in much of a usable state. Ironic that should happen because yesterday my new computer arrived that I ordered around a week ago.
Bad timing or good timing? You decide. I'm still setting shit up on this thing, so I probably won't be able to play for a while longer.
DOA, how would your early game strategy handle my harassing with a Kortul Devastator? That thing can take out a planet sooner than you can get there if your fleet is more than 1 jump away.
I shouldn't really be saying this, but probably badly. It really depends on how early I get hit, but if you hit me in the first 20 minutes or so you'll catch me with my pants down, still setting my uber economy machine in motion. My rapid expansion policy means my entire fleet will be busy expanding my empire and all my resources devoted to building trade ports and mines/stopping underdevelopment tax.
However, if you don't strike me within that time, I'll pretty much steamroll anyone stupid enough to have started nearby with planets I want.
Sorry, my irony sense was tingling and I had to do something about it.
But anyway, the reason people use the build order I talk about is because it doesn't leave you vulnerable early game, which is critical when you're not playing against PA people.

I think it's ironic in the same way as rai-ain on your wedding day, a free ride when you've already paid, and a thousand spoons when all you need is a knife.
Which is to say not ironic at all. You are correct.
You'll find the dictionary definition of irony has changed to support the fashion in which a lot of misguided people such as myself use it.
So there. The stupids win and you lose. STUPID.
Basically, what you're saying is that everyone is so aggressively stupid that they just keep using a word the wrong way until everybody else forgets how it's supposed to be?
God, I hate people.

Their punishment should be to listen to that Alanis Moriset song until they can tell you what the definition is.
I may be able to play soon, but I don't know for how long...
I'm surprised with how much I tend to agree with Gametrailers these days. Although I have to wonder how they came to that result, I just can't imagine many of the people at GT have even played the game.
Other than Twilight of the Arnor, which is an expansion and almost certainly excluded, and Colonization, which is essentially a total conversion for Civ4, nothing came close to Sins in the genre this year.

I was expecting them to go populist opinion on us and either go for C&C or Advance Wars. As good a game Sins is, it's practically unheard of.
Heh, why does a self destruct have a cooldown timer before it can be used again?
Better yet, why can it be autocast?
"Sir! Enemies have been detected en route to the system!"
"Battle stations! Lets check the plan here....oh. hmm. Okay..overload the reactor."
"They aren't even here yet!"
Hey people im pretty new at this what is a good starting strategy for advent:?:
From a non expansion viewpoint:
Get a capital ship factory, build Halycon.
Upgrade "amplify energy" and then alternate "drone" and "amplify energy" till you get the "swarm" as it levels. Rely on fighters early on vs frigates but replace later in the game with bombers.
And sell the capital ship yard when the Halycon is completed. You need it for those labs.
Ceque mines, crystal first.
Buy 200 crystal.
Max planetary Infrastructure.
Sell 200 metal, build 2 scouts and a colony frigate.
Expand.
Build 3 Labs (takes a bit but keep at it).
Research and build Illums. Congrats, you are ready to roll.
Research shields neccesary for Guardians and add a few Guardians to the fleet.
Rebuild capital ship yard. You can add more Halycons but there are more possibilities. Personally go for the planet bombers, usually two because Advent are a bit weak at ground warfare with this setup and i dislike assault frigates. Plus they can mindcontrol enemy ships and incite killing frenzys on a planet.
Research and upgrade beam weapons - bombers will use that too, so after you have done this its probably a good idea to switch squadrons to bombers.

It will actually self detonate when hull gets below 10%.
Incredibly useful. Especially if they broke your tank and the siege is over.
In my current single player game I got a bajillion carrier ships and it's awesome. Would that work in multi or would someone just be like "say hello to my flak frigate fleet"?

Your only hope in free for all matches with the computer is to bend over for one of them and forge an unstoppable alliance of doom.
Which is why I can't wait for the second expansion.

It fixes the whole unreasonable demand thing or it make alliances of doom more awesome?
It improves the diplomacy. Also adds some new things for the economy.

Start talking about British Frigates in bed.
I thought that was a pretty great line.
I'm bummed that I missed the weekend's worth of playing, but I'll be around tomorrow if we want to get a game going.
That is fucking amazing, I'm tempted to report it for awesome but I'd probably get shot down.
oh god I am not good at battlefield
