Happy?: Last Laugh dropped from Kel'thuzad. I wanted it, but I passed it to our prot paladin because he was using a DPS sword to tank. I don't know if this makes me nice or stupid.

It makes you awesome. This is how it is supposed to go, in my opinion. [/Anecdote] ...These upgrades will make my guild/friends stronger, which in turn makes us all stronger.

That's how I see it, at least. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe people are supposed to be cutthroat-greedy and milk a guild dry before moving on to another. (Ask me how my last guild died.)

It's not always a case of greed vs. the right thing though. Dhalphir is our "main tank", as they say, so when an upgrade for him drops there's always going to be the question of whether we buff up our main tank more or close the gap between him and the others, there are good reasons to do both. I wouldn't have been upset at all if the item had gone his way, someone's gotta be first in line. But anyway:

    Ffffffffffucking stoked!

Spent pretty much all day online 'cos well... its a sunday =P
Tried 3 heroics. UK, VH and Nexus.

UK and VH were terrible. UK took us about 3 hours to get to the last boss where we wiped 3 times.
VH we wiped on the water dude (as the second boss) 'cos the DPS was so low that the other portals actually started to open.

A little later and the guilds raid leader comes online. Within an hour we're off to Nexus heroic. By this point im severely pissed off at wiping so much all the damned time. We 1 shot all the bosses apart from Keristraza. She took 5 attempts and god damn was it annoying!

But when she finally dropped I got me this.

So yeah. Bad day turned awesome ^^

I was getting my raid dps legs as we went forward, experienced the horrible mana issues that ret-pallies face first hand. BUT! On the last spider-wing boss we were facing a wipe. It started to enrage right before the AoE root/stun, so I put up hand of sacrifice on the tank.

Tank survives with less than 30% health! The other bastards kill the spider. I don't think they realized what I did.

    Massive hate like rant incoming.

Heroics, pre-this expansion, were made a complete joke due to the health reductions of mobs. What this has meant with this expansion, is that once people hit 80, they were all too keen to not actually do any normal instances, but just take the step up to heroics.

So as a healer, who might be under-geared, I get to go in with tanks that are not up to the task, in addition to dps who just generally blitz it and don't think.

I got invited to a pug heroic HoL. The group consited of, 3 deathknights, 1 rogue and a me on my resto shaman. We clear the right side to the first boss, at which point we see him walking back. We all walk back, apart from one dps Deathknight, who just stands there, I'm guessing because he didn't think he'd agro the big fuck-off boss walking slowly before him. So he pulls before we're ready, and they all die in a whirlwind.

For the people who don't know, his adds put a debuff that means if you move, you take alot of damage. So when someone with that debuff is standing next to the boss who then whirlwinds, he's fucked. To me, it seems sensible to kill his 2 adds asap.

So 2nd try, the dps yet again all focus on the boss, ignoring the adds completely. I heal through it, in addition to the fact the boss doesn't really do the nasty combo, and we do actually kill him. The kill still annoys me, because it's more luck than anything else that results in the kill.

We get to the supression room with the earth elementals; yet again appolgies to people who already know, but when you kill those elementals, they explode. With 4 melee, it just isn't possible to keep the tank and the rest up if they all clump together and stand there next to the adds as they all die at roughly the same time.

So another wipe. Run back, dps actually listen and run away periodically and we all live. Start doing the groups and we wipe, because while the tank isn't marking, the other deathknights apparently don't bother doing /assit tanks, and just dps whoever the fuck they want, which leaves me trying to heal 3 wannabe tanks, all dps'ing different targets.

Run back again, get to the 2nd boss, but the tank decides to only clear one half of the room. This leaves very little room to deal with the adds. We wipe, mainly due to the fact I had 6 adds on me. Run back again, clear the other side this time, and adds are dealt with better, but a wipe happens because the tank stands next to all of the dead adds. This tank then says we wipe because people stood next to dead adds, completely ignoring the fact he stood next to about 5 of them in the first place.

So the tank leaves, and one of the other DK's replaces him, who by his very own admission, says his tanking gear isn't up to scratch. He then invites another dps, and guess what! It's another dk. Go back, and we manage to kill the 2nd boss with a messy kill.

So we make our way to the third boss. Wipe in the corridor because again, I'm having to heal 3 different tanks not giving a shit about which guy to hit.

Get to the 3rd boss, I tell people that we'll have a tricky time, because this boss sticks a debuff on you, which hurts people near you. Yes I hoped too much people would listen, but I managed to heal through that damage.

Start going to the 4th boss. Wipe because people knock whatever I frog, out of hex, and then all stand there while 2 mobs whirlwind. Having some dipshit dps tell me to just spam chain heal, while they make no effort to avoid incoming damage. Get to the last boss. All I can say, is he's got a shitty design. I know the theory of this fight, but we don't all have brilliant connections for this game, and frankly the time it gives you to get out of the aoe, is just not enough.

First wipe, is mainly due to the fact that while people saw the aoe building up, we all got caught in the aoe.

2nd go, the dps DK who is all very keen on telling me how to heal, tells us how easy the fight is. He then confuses the tank, to the extent that this go, the tank moves the boss around for the entire fight. This means I take more damage, because when I stand still to heal, I get further away from the boss. We avoid the first aoe, but most, including the guy that said it was easy, died in the 2nd aoe.

Go back into the instance, adds have repopped, and we call it.

I blame blizzard for this; the fact that as soon as you hit 80, you can do heroics straight away. You get people who don't know anything about the mechanics of the fights, who just expect to blitz whatever instance they go into. That dps can go in whatever shitty gear they want, and it doesn't matter. Fuck cc, and fuck a kill list, the healer will pick up our slack. What's that? We'll blame him for all the wipes? Perfect.

To top it off, did a pug 10 man to the boss in wintergrasp. Takes a while for people to get there, but one, a mage from one of the top guilds hordeside, makes no effort to come to the instance. He asks for a summon, which a lock does, and he doesn't accept. Instead, he went off to respec. We clear all the way to the boss, and he asks for another summon. We ask him why he didn't make his own way, and he said it was his first time doing this.

This just made me pissed off; did he ask where to go at any point? No. Did he tell people what he was doing? No. Did he make any effort to come to the instance? No. We summon him, tell people what goes on with this boss (i.e. don't stand in the white cloud and don't stand still when he's throwing spikes at you), which the mage promptly ignores. Even if we didn't tell him about the white cloud, surely the fact your health goes down dramatically when standing in the stuff should be a clue. He dies very quickly into the fight, releases and runs back, but gets lost in finding the portal.

Kill the boss, and he drops mage gloves. The only justice in that dropping, is that the idiot wasn't in the instance, so couldn't loot it.

tl:dr, shit dps get an easy ride, at the expense that healing is fucking stressful. That blizzard made it too easy to enter a heroic, meaning nobody does a normal run. Even if it was like they did for MgT where you run it once to get attuned for the heroic, it would be a massive improvement.

Start inspecting people before you do heroics. I'll agree that it sucks that nobody does regular instances at all. I did all of the regular sub-80 instances once on the way up, then aside from one regular Oculus, it was only heroics.

I had some good luck early on, for the first couple weeks of 80 I never had a group fail. Then recently I've gotten invited to some shitty groups. So now I don't roll if some people clearly suck/aren't up to it. For instance the heroic VH I just got invited to before bowing out of. Tank was a warrior with 20k hp and a level 76 shield. Hunter asked for a summon. Other DK had blood aura. Healer looked good but a semi-gimp tank and stupid DPS = probably going to wipe at some point, no fucking way I'm wiping in VH since it's a complete waste of time.

Especially as a healer you get to pick and choose your groups so no reason to be writing essays.

Happy: Our tanks are pretty good and it was my first time DPSing in a raid, and compared to some of the other people there I didn't do too bad.

Hate: It was pretty terrible, though. The only good healer was a pugger Resto Shaman, both our in-guild healers were shitty beyond all belief. A lot of people had some serious problems with simple instructions like move away from the boss when he casts Insect Swarm and so forth. Also, a Rogue we pugged managed to be 7th on the damage meters, right below our main tank. And after one wipe, our Priest got lost and couldn't find Naxx.

Haaaate: there is a massive QQ post on our realm forums about a "tank shortage"

There's no tank shortage. Ask any unguilded tank trying to find a raiding guild.

The existing tanks just don't want to PuG because when we do, we are expecting to hold aggro with a mage DPSing one add, a rogue stunlocking another giving us no rage, a death knight DPSer who is using death grip to pull, a healer who waits about 3-4 seconds between each heal for reasons unknown to me, a warlock who dots everything up in sight then chain-fears the skull, melee DPS who stand in front of mobs that cleave and then complain about tank holding aggro, or about not getting heals, DPS with interrupts who never ever use them and instead continue to DPS a mob while it casts a heal with a four-year cast time, thus forcing the tanks to cycle through targets interrupting the key abilities like heals or mob CCs, warlocks/mages/insert AOE class who feel the need to use their AOE as soon as the mobs have been pulled even if they haven't yet reached the tank, fire mages, boomkins, and elemental shamans who think that using their knockback abilities is a good idea or even remotely acceptable when a tank has just painstakingly gathered up a group of caster mobs.

Many Happys: Dinged 80 on Saturday night. Immediately got into a guild heroic group and did VH. Bam epic cloth bracers drop, win. Then we did H:UP and called it a night, er morning. On Sunday I hooked up with one of my friends who is a good bear tank, we rolled off six heroics (VH, HoL, HoS, DK, GK, Nexus). In Nexus the epic caster mace dropped, win. I bought the 25 badge caster off-hand to go with the mace and we are in business. I ran one more heroic with some other guildies (AN) and then took a break. After I made some supper I came back and a guild was looking for a DPS for 10-man Naxx. I hooked up with these guys and did Maxxenia, The harvester guy and 4 horsemen in about an hour then I called it quits and let them get a guildie DPS in my place. A pretty solid 3 day weekend if I don't say so myself, level 77-80 and got a lot of heroic blues and a couple heroic epics.

Healer looked good but a semi-gimp tank and stupid DPS = probably going to wipe at some point, no fucking way I'm wiping in VH since it's a complete waste of time.

Especially as a healer you get to pick and choose your groups so no reason to be writing essays.

Heh, I tanked several heroics with a level 76 blue shield I'd gotten from a quest reward. I'd say a bare minimum for a tank is 20.5k life unbuffed, 535 defense. I did it, so I know it can be done (with a competent healer).

Had one of my guildies (a terrible one) hit 80, and instantly ask for a heroic group. I said "You tanking?" and his response was "It's the only thing I know how to do." So I asked what his Def and HP were at, and he told me 480 Defense, 17.5k life. D: Needless to say I told him to respec and tanked it for him.

    Happy: Black War Bear GET

Humor: I had started, but not finished, Battle for Undercity, so the respective throne rooms of both Orgrimmar and Undercity were both phased for me and I couldn't actually see Thrall (the normal, hostile one) or Sylvannas. Nor could I see anyone in the raid or any Horde defenders.

Still got the achievements for standing there when they went down, though.

I never quite understood anybody requiring X defense for heroics. With the exception of the first boss in prenerf Durnholde (looool 8k MS?) I never felt like being uncrittable--or even having a big HP pool to soak huge hits with--was much of a priority. Overall avoidance and threat output were always much more important for five man stuff.

Of course, it's not like the duder in all level 71 greens had much avoidance, threat, or anything really.
