Authentic Autograph or not?

At the risk of showing this auction to another Led Zep fan here:

Ebay auction 160302360559

Not much time left. What the heck is this "letter" the seller is sending me? Aren't these things supposed to be legally authenticated? If it is authentic, I really want it, but I just don't know...

What think you?

    bah... I hate this game.

Anyway, I saw this on a Rock Memorabilia site... http://www.irocknroll.com/LedZeppelin.html

    http://www.irocknroll.com/images/Led_Zeppelin_Signed_Guitar_bs_.jpg

comparing the signatures on the guitar to the ones in the photo, they don't look the same at all. But, who the fuck knows if that means anything.

    The description reads:

"This piece is an AUTHENTIC AUTOGRAPH and comes with a LETTER detailing where the item was signed."

And no, the vendor is no obligated to authenticate this thing, how will he?, it is possible to compare the signature against an existing legal document, or from the cover of another album, there is an specialist called Graphologist, who can be hired to do the job too, but this is a science not recognized.

E-Bay member since 05 and zero negative reviews. Always something to take into consideration. However, it didn't look like anyone verified the autographs independently and responded about it. It doesn't sound like you will get a certificate of authenticity, but those can be hogwash anyway. Buying autographs can be difficult. How does the price of this auction compare to what the peice would go for in a "reputable" store.

It just seems that most of the time these things include a CoA of some sort. I am used to seeing some sort of legal CoA (not really sure how/where they are generated) or a picture of the object being signed, or the object with the signer themself. Could I make any sort of legal action if this turned out to be a fake?

I'd say that something like this is appropriately priced, especially since it's a photo and not an album or guitar or anything.

Buying autographed merchandise is like, 25% chance and 75% hope. Really, you buy the thing, you hang it up, and when people ask, you say "this is Led Zepplin autographed."

I will say though, the fact that this auction is signed by John Bonham and only going for some 200 dollars sets my bullshit detector off in a big way.

For the future though, consider how much more it would cost to buy from a reputable dealer and if the added cost is worth it.

hmm... ah. I see what they did. I misread also, hehe...

Jason Bonham is John's son, who played drums for the Zepplin reunion tour. I guess he signed an old picture of his dad? Seems weird to me. But actually, being signed by Jason Bonham lends some credibility to it.

But then, if you don't give a fuck about Jason Bonham, you may not want it anyway.

The letter basically dates out when and who and how the signature is captured. This means that a person with that info is one step close to getting it Authenticated. I lot of times these are actually created by authenticators that are at a signing booth, that way instead of research being done another authenticator will just look at the letter and charge a fee and and issue a certificate.
