Help getting 2 games to run on 64 bit Vista (SOLVED!)
So I have my nice HP laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit and I REALLY want to play my pc copies of Final Fantasy 7 and 8. My google skills have failed me and now I turn to H/A. What sort of voodoo do I have to perform to get these games to run?
A note: Final Fantasy 8 runs but due to the lack of 8 bit palette compatibility (I think, going off of memory) I have these hideous black boxes everywhere.
Final Fantasy 7 just skips any FMVs, black screen with no audio, I can get to the "New Game/Continue" menu but no farther.
Forgot to post that--I've already tried the compatibility mode switch, nothing happened. Also I think it's worth mentioning that I have the K-Lite codec pack installed, I've seen on some websites that K-lite may create some issues with Final Fantasy 7.
Ok, I got FF8 working, I switched graphics to Software and on a tip from a random forum I moved the FF8 exe to a subfolder I created in the main program folder, now it runs perfectly, better than on my PSX even! Now to try for FF7 fixes, I'll edit this post if I get it to work and let you know what works.
Ok, so following the directions from the second link in evilmrhenry's post I was able to get FF7 working as well! Just a warning: After the opening FMV you'll have to initiate the first random encounter blind, after that the area loads. This is solved!
