What is Mechwarrior:
Mechwarrior is a series of giant robot battle simulation games based on the battle tech universe of tabletop games.
Basically, you configure and then hop into a giant (up to 100 tonns) metal monster and shoot eachother.

Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries (shortened to Mech4:mercs) was the last in the mechwarrior series to come out for the PC. A shame really, it was a blast to play but the online service (microsofts gaming 'zone') was shut down some years ago.

The guys over at mechtech are a group of coders, modelers and designers, working closely within the realms of Battletech lore, to expand and reinvigerate the Mechwarrior universe.
The have released three version of their Mekpak sofar with a fourth on the way.
It adds literally dozens of chasis and hundreds of options. If you have mechwarrior 4, you owe it to yourself to DL this.
along with mekpaks, they have their own servers, on which they have enabled online play, they call the service mekmatch. got grab that too.

I'm pretty sure it has more buttons, but you have to program it with the software because it has more than the game recognizes.

I have played through mechwarrior 1 and mercs about 100 times
Unfortunately it looks like the closest we'll get to that is Living Legends. On the plus side it should be coming out soon.
I dunno if I'll have the regular time to get involved with a clan, but I'm totally down for digging out my old MW4:mercs disks and doing some multi.
Those models are soooo sexy.
I can't wait to try it too, glad my PC has the balls.
But if your PC doesn't cut the snuff, Mech4 will run on anything.

We don't have to form a full time league clan either, maybe just a for fun one? Although Inner sphere wars league is coming out soon, planetary leagues like that seem like they might just be awesome.

I still play through these games once in a while. The intros to MW2, MW2 Mercenaries and MW3 were especially good. It makes me sad to know that updated versions beyond fan-made remakes are just not likely in the cards.
Hell, I even enjoyed the Mech Commander games!

Then hit the little .reg file in the mechwarrior directory.

Dunno about 64, but it runs well enough on 32, just make sure you are admin, and don't install the official mechpacks, they break it.
