Anachronox on XBLA/PSN. Help Me Make it Happen.

Anachronox was released in 2001 for the pc. It was a very good game with a great story, dialogue, and atmospher. Unfortunately it was released by Ion Storm (the people behind Daikatana) on the Quake 2 engine (which by 2001 was severly outdated). Add all that to the fact that the game was designed to act like a console RPG on a pc and you have the recipe for a flop. You can read all about it here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anachronox

But I really like this game and I think that, at the right selling price, the game could be a fairly modest success on XBLA/PSN. The problem is Tom Hall, the man behind the game, doesn't have the rights to the game; Eidos does (source: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3142603).

So now it's 2008 and Eidos is just sitting on this license. I think the best thing that could happen with this game is that it gets released on XBLA/PSN. It's just a matter of convincing Eidos to do this. I don't really know how to do that. I have their support email (support@eidosinteractive.com). Maybe we could have a petition or have everyone email them. What does everyone on here suggest? More importantly, is this even worth trying to do?

I suggest not spamming their technical support.

No. You can't do anything. Putting stuff on XBLA is a sometimes arduous task that costs plenty of money. No amount of e-mail or actual mail will persuade them.

I remember hearing this was a good game. Trying to get it on Xbox live is less likely to succeed than a Mother 3 petition, though.

But is there any place I can buy this game digitally? I'll probably get it at some point in the future when there aren't so many new games on the shelves.

You heard wrong. It's a horrific game.

However, it is a very entertaining and well written/directed piece of machinima.

You would probably be better off contacting GOG (good old games). Contacting support would probably just annoy the people at support.

Go here and watch it as a movie instead. Tracking it down and playing it is absolutely not worth it.

Anachronox has one of the most amusing stories in any RPG combined with some of the worst gameplay in the genre. Like Cherm said, you're better off watching the movie clips from it than actually playing it.

In any case, the game is available for dirt cheap on the PC so I'm not sure what the point of spending a bunch of money to port it to consoles would achieve.

While the gameplay in Anachronox certainly isn't bad, I'll have to agree that you don't really miss anything by watching it rather than playing it. Makes for a damn fine movie, though.

I can't see this being put on XBLA/PSN. Porting a pretty buggy title that didn't sell very well in the first place? I don't see the money in it. It might, however, have a life on Gog.com.

Its still a good game despite the bugs.

I suppose there isn't much we can do. It just sucks that a game like this, which wasn't great but was fairly good with a really good story, has to be put on the back-burner at Eidos. The guys who made it clearly would do another one and there is a pretty large cult following that I think would buy it if it were downloadable. But since Eidos has the license nothing can be done. It just kind of sucks.

Anachronox's battle system was hated by people who love Square's systems.

I can't stand any of the FFs and their towering walls of menus. I utterly adored Anachronox.

Yes. That's why people don't like it. Not because of the endless fetch quests, incessant loading, incomprehensible directives, bad camera, or shallow battle system. Because it wasn't Final Fantasy. Clearly.

    Clearly.

Having an entire planet, whose inhabitants think your adventures are just a strange TV series, following you around as an NPC, makes it all worth it.

    a) PC/NPC - I consider everyone not the main character as NPCs
    b) The people are watching your adventures as a TV show, and they remark on how much they like some of the characters.
    c) It/They are awesome, not irritating fuckers.

    Clearly.

I have to agree with Galactus. While it doesn't have the best gameplay ever, I'd rather play it over FF8 or F10 any day. And the writing is far better than most games. And I don't really remember any fetch quests. Most were just plot points to get to like any console style RPG has.

Did the producers ever reveal exactly what was supposed to take place in the sequel? They must have plotted it out, since they intended the game to be twice as long. Ugh, it ends on such a massive cliffhanger, too...
