Saw on RPS that Space Rangers 2 is $4USD (5CDN, 6AUD) for this weekend, along with a bunch of other bargains. The weekend's bargains are listed below, including World of Goo and Supreme Commander.

Impulse is Stardock's digital distribution platform. It's kinda like Steam, but not.

Anyway, I picked up Space Rangers 2 for the $6AUD, and it's usually $60+.

Space Rangers 2 Wikipedia link.
Space Rangers 2 combines multiple gameplay modes. Space travel takes place in a third-person perspective turn-based 2D engine. The game also includes a 3D real-time strategy engine for planetary battles, with the option to control units within the RTS engine to play the battles as third-person shooters. The game also features an arcade shoot 'em up mode, and text-based missions that include interactive fiction and logic puzzle elements. The player character can gain experience points and improve skills, and the player character's ship can be upgraded as the player earns more cash. Sources of income for the player character include trading, piracy, completing missions for various factions, mining, and deploying research probes.

Cool. Wasn't there an expansion for this as well? I only played vanilla.

The version on Impulse is the main game plus the Reboot expansion. It also gives you seperate access to the Vanilla version as well.

Hmm. I played the original, and while it had a nice thing going for it it really got bogged down towards the middle and end of the game when you got raped by maintainance fees and the dreaded years-long quest drought. Did Reboot fix that?

Yesssssss. Bought this ages ago and the dumb CDs don't install right. Now I have it with expansion goodness and no Starforce for 4 dollars! \o/ Thanks for the heads up, dev.

I found that tilting it doesn't work very well, and once I started jerking it, I got much better results.
