I loved Psychonauts, but so far I'm just not feeling Brutal Legend. Seems a bit unpolished and meh, just look at the vehicle segments, like at 0:22.
Just kinda...:|
Edit: 'Course, I'm not into the "Heavy Metal" kind of music/culture, so there you go. This reminds me a lot of the "Major Boobage" episode in South Park, and that's not a compliment.
I don't know, Brutal Legend looks like it may be kinda unpolished... but, Double Fine is a really good studio. I have some faith that they'll release a good game. Plus, the nun demon thing actually got a laugh out of me.
Also, it's a bit more varied in terms of gameplay than say Psychonauts so it might (like the GTA series) be kind of sub-par on individual elements, but a good whole.
An unfinished game lacks polish? I am shocked good sir! Positively shocked!

Oh, psh. Everyone says that for every game they think looks cool until a year after release. It looks like it will still be kind of unpolished, but I feel like it'll probably be made up for by the fact that Double Fine knows how to make cool games and Tim Schafer writes fun things.
Brutal Legend, I think, will require a purchase simply 'cause it's The Next Thing Tim Schafer Is Making. The gameplay part can wait 'till I play it - the part I need to see was shown in the video - great animation, character design, and a certain liveliness.
Uncharted 2 trailer was also win, keeping the endearing attitude of the original. Please God let Elena come back...
God of War 3 will get a purchase, unless some early review scares the pants off me. I'm a little uneasy that David Jaffee is no longer at the helm, but it's still Kratos, they've got the same awesome dude doing the voice, and I've no doubt he'll brutalize many mythical creatures in exceedingly nasty ways.
Win, win, win.
Oh, and there was some sort of awards thing going on. Whatever.

Brutal Legend is a game about metal. That and the Earthworm Jim feel + Tim Schafer is all I need to buy it. I've really been waiting for any breaths of info for this game for quite a while. Neato trailer.

WoW wasn't even part of the nominees. I think there should have been separate categories for RPG and MMORPG.
I'd take it a step further.
Best MMORPG.
Best freeform RPG.
Best linear RPG.
You could just say "best western RPG" and "best JRPG", but freeform/linear seems less... racist?
Linearity vs. openness isn't the only distinction between JRPGs and WRPGs, though.
Totally true, but it would keep Fallout and Fable from competing with Persona and ... I dunno, Lost Odyssey? Tales of Vesperia..? I feel like I'm forgetting something...

Jaffe left Sony Santa Monica after God of War 1. Cory Barlog directed God of War 2 and Ready at Dawn made God of War: Chains of Olympus. It's not like he alone made God of War 1 great anyway, there's a whole team of talented people that worked on it and so they'll be perfectly fine.
Anyway, Uncharted 2 teaser was disappointing (solely because of the length), God of War 3 trailer looked brilliant (gameplay footage!) and Brutal Legend looked crazy awesome.
Those awards thingies? Eh, who cares? If you want to pay attention to awards that actually mean something, then wait for the Game Developers Choice Awards (which are held during GDC) and the Interactive Achievement Awards (which are held during DICE Summit).

It's definitely not a game aimed towards people who don't like/understand the Metal culture. I mean, if you didn't like Major Boobage, you're probably not going to care for this.

Brutal Legend is a must own. And GoWIII may just be the game that pushes me over the edge on getting a PS3, as I thought the first two where a hell of a lot of fun.
I was hoping for a show that wasn't so horrendously offensive to all five senses and made me feel like I would have had a better time running my nuts through a pasta maker. Right now I have testicles alla arriabiata over here.

I knew there was some sort of gaming awards that were voted on by the devs themselves - that's the GDC?
Jaffe left Sony Santa Monica after God of War 1. .
Really? He's listed by Wiki. Damn your lies, Wikipedia!
He was "technically" involved in God of War II, as creative director, but according to Jaffe himself, he really didn't do that much. By the time God of War 1 came out, he was pretty jaded with the whole 'AAA development' experience and really didn't want to do it again.

Both. Well, the GDC Awards are voted on by only game developers, while the Interative Achievement Awards are voted on by "people in the gaming industry" (which is so vague it could include journalists). The GDC Awards are usually the more interesting ones though. Their last four Game of the Years were; Half-Life 2 (2004), Shadow of the Colossus (2005), Gears of War (2006) and Portal (2007).
The awards seemed less trashy this year. I could really do without the musical guests. They need to get some orchestra music mixed in there. The Tim Schafer skit was really the only best part of the show.

I hope Fallout 3 claims Game of the Year instead of the overrated bitch that is GTAIV.
"Hi. I'm exactly like GTA 3 with kinda bad missions but better graphics..." - GTA IV
"Best game ever!!!" - Plebes
Hi, I'm Oblivion with the textures changed!
Not defending GTA, as it was overrated but so was FO3
Didn't play Fallout 3 did you? I suggest you play games before passing judgment on them. 'Oblivion with the textures changes' is about as accurate as saying Halo is Doom 2 with the textures changed.
It was worth it just for Brutal Legend, that clip of Uncharted 2 and anything featuring Kratos. But they really need to reign in those music performances. Y'know what would be better? Music from games. Here's how you do it, Spike:
Pick 4-5 GOTY soundtrack contenders. Have those 4-5 songs performed throughout the event. Easy. And enjoyable for gamers.
yeah, uh, i don't think "gamers" is really the audience they are catering to
your typical frat brah would change the channel in about four seconds when the orchestra comes out to play some fucking final fantasy song, or what have you.
Because gamers can't be in fraternities?
that is definitely not what i said, thanks for misconstruing my words
No, what you said was a gross mischaractarization of every man in the greek system, based either on the fact that you've watched too many movies, or based on the fact that some dude maybe picked on you once (my guess is the former.)

I didn't have to watch the awards, the God of War trailer was posted here. That would have been my only reason for watching the awards anyway. God if War is also the game that is going to push me to get a PS3.
Left 4 Dead should win in every single category it's eligible for, with Dead Space as "scariest game ever" and "best writing". I love Fallout 3, but I'm starting to find it mediocre in all sorts of ways. Best Strategy and Best PS3 game can go to Valkyria Chronicles.
I hope Fallout 3 claims Game of the Year instead of the overrated bitch that is GTAIV.

I own Fallout 3.
It pretty much is Oblivion with guns and different textures. There are small improvements, like a leveling system that doesn't suck nearly as bad, and VATS, which is iffy (it's cool when you use it to finish someone, but I hate having to constantly recharge it).
It's not a bad game, in fact I quite enjoy it, but it really does feel like a cool mod to Oblivion.
EDIT: Wait, the Rock Band thread is saying Pearl Jam's fucking Ten was confirmed as a full album download at the VGA awards, Y/N? If Y, add about five more

Meh. Fun stuff happens in Fallout 3 all the time, of the games on that they had nominated I'd say it would've been the best choice. Also, a very detailed world with lot's of delightful exploration - more delightful than GTAIV. I personally enjoy VATS and use it even on radroaches.
@Variant:
Basically GTAIV is just GTA3 with guns and the textures changed... Oh wait they already had guns in GTA3...
Edit: I'm not saying Fallout 3 is among my favourite games, I'm just saying of the games on that list it's the one that didn't disappoint me and the one that had the most cool features. It might be on my top 50 games list, GTAIV is hardly on my top 100 list. This year didn't really have a clear case of GOTY for me. Many good games but none that was as full of WIN as most other years (until I can get my hands on Chrono Trigger DS).

Seriously. Do yourself a favor and download the demo for this game. Just try it, thank me later.

I think it might be decent in 5 to 6 years.
Still enjoyed non-nominated games a hell of a lot more though, like Valkyria Chronicles, Rock Band 2 and Prince of Persia.
Uncharted 2, GoW3 and Brutal Legend stuff right?
That's me a happy chappy, I've been dying to get a good glimpse of those three!
(The only thing that'd make me happier is if some how, by some chance, something from Team ICO slipped in to the show)
