It looks like I was mistaken. Although P3 was nominated for best RPG last year, it didn't win. In fact, since 2004 (the year the VGAs started), not a single PS2 game has won best RPG.

What really bothers me more than anything is what they consider nominees for 'best music'.
If they want these awards to be taken seriously, honor the people who work on the games and compose music, not licensed bands. There's no shortage of worthwhile candidates in that field.

There's a best soundtrack category for licensed stuff and best original score category for orchestral background music or whatever. I don't really see a problem with it.

Wotlk, even being an expansion, at the very least has been much more successful than WAR. I can't speak for it being better or worse, as I never jumped on the WAR bandwagon, however I saw its population plummet as the eve of Wotlk's launch drew near.
Also, there definitely needs to be more Dead Space on that list.
Oh, and the fact that Crysis Warhead is even on that list pretty much negates any validity the list may have had prior to its addition.
Did we really need every single multiplayer slot to be filled up with shooters when there was a fantastic pair of multiplayer Wii games called Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii? Admittedly, Brawl was a little buggy out the gate, but that's pretty par for the course for most online fighting games. But what's the excuse for no Mario Kart? It works pretty well.
Nothing against Civ, and you're point is valid, but....fixed. I'm guessing more people have Brawl and Kart in their heads than they do Civ.

Oh but crysis has guns. I mean ignoring the fact that it is a pretty bad expansion to a mediocre game, you would think at least they would run it by someone who knows what the fuck they are talking about concerning PC gaming. Spore is not a GOTY candidate by any definition.

Fallout 3 - Has to be. LBP would only be GOTY for a segment of the gaming public, as it's not a cross-platform release. GTAIV met expectations, and played safely within well-explored territory from previous games in the series. Fallout 3 took risks, big risks, and succeeded beyond anyone's expectations.
Sorry, but anyone who thinks like this is full of complete and utter bullshit. You can't say that a game cannot be Game of the Year simply because it's not on more than one system. Fuck that. If Left 4 Dead is Game of the Year, then the Wii and PS3 owners can suffer. If it's LBP, then 360 and Wii owners can be envious.
It's just so fucking stupid to make that distinction, especially when you have one system that doesn't generally share games with the others (Wii).
And since I'm here, what big risks did Fallout 3 take? Adding guns to Oblivion? It's great for what it is, but come on, it's not this big revolutionary thing.
Honestly, none of Spike's GOTY nominees strike me as deserving. GTAIV aside, I was "meh" about all of them. And even then, I don't look at GTAIV as GOTY material.

How the hell is MGS4 not nominated for best soundtrack? Fallout 3 has a handful of okay orchestrated tracks and some oldies. It doesn't have an ounce of the style MGS4 has.
Found this link to info about the awards, it lists the judges who pick the winners. And in all fairness, it's a pretty-damn-good list. I did notice two thinks that made me go "hmmmm" though,
(1) : Game Trailers TV is "known for its hard-hitting interviews". That's a lie. That's like, a superlie. It's the type of lies that other, less ambitious lies hope to live up to.
(2) One of the judges is the editor of Playboy magazine. Because finding moderately tasteful pictures of chesticles and political articles makes you an important cog in the machine of gamer culture.
