Secret War is the exact opposite of everything I'd expect from a comic named Secret War.

And that's not a good thing at all.

No, actually, the book is more about a Secret War than anyother Secret War.

It's just not about superheroes and villians stuck on another planet smacking the holy crap out of each other.

    That's not my scene, man.

Takes place about the same time as the Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader novel, I think, which covers that final few hours of the Clone War and the succeeding few months.

Strange wasn't quite as awesome as last month, but it was still excellent. Mostly scene-building for what will be a ridiculous amount of awesome come December.

[spoiler:b0e6de524e]Strange vs. HilterGun: Round Two! Also not Mordo.[/spoiler:b0e6de524e]

Also, Annihilation, holy shit. That was goddamn AWESOME.

[realspoiler:b0e6de524e]Holy shit, Thanos is dead! And apparently Death is the same entity across DC and Marvel now!

Also holy shit, Galactus is a universe-ending bomb now![/realspoiler:b0e6de524e]

So yeah, if you people haven't, pick up Annihilation and Doc Strange. Tasty and delicious.

All I got this week was Dr. Strange and Bullet Points
Dr. Strange-A build-up issue, plain and simple. A good build-up issue but one just the same. I love the art, it fits Strange perfectly. The re-telling of his origin made him even more of a pretentious asshole, which I loved. It was decent but the next issue will have some shit go down and will be much better(Hopefully). Also, "Hoary Fucking Hoasts!" made my day.
    B
Bullet Points-Bought it on a whim and am glad I did. The art is fantastic particularly the design of Iron Man. The story is very intresting and the beginning is incredibly stylish. The cliff-hanger ending was very good as well. I am definitly on board for the rest of this series.

EDIT: Just checked the bottom of my bag, forgot I nabbed Annihilation. Review coming soon.

They give you a pretty good breakdown of what happened at the beginning of each issue. I guess it's an ok substitute if you missed the back issues.

Alright, so I finally stumbled across Absolute Sandman Volume 1 during my trip to B&N last week, and I have to say that Sandman really is some incredible stuff; I put it on the same level as Watchmen.

That being said, the price was incredibly steep, but since I never buy these kinds of things, i'd say it was worth it. My question to you now is 1) when does the second volume come out, and 2) will it cost the same price?

It's basically a what-if book that switches Marvel characters around, based on that one doctor being killed before he had a chance to make Captain America rather than after. It's good.

52- I talked about this in the 52 thread, but I'll just say that the story was gripping, and the art was, for the most part, pretty good. I thought the artists went a little heavy on the crosshatching on people's faces during the Question/Montoya portion, and I noticed that some of the characters' eyes during Ralph's portion looked kind of big and weird, but otherwise it looked nice. Howard Chaykin's Black Canary backup however, was awful. I don't get it. He can draw pretty damn well sometimes (see his work in Amazing Adventures of the Escapist Vol. 3), and then other times it looks like he draws a picture and then steps back and says, "Hm, know what this could use? Some shit smeared on it!" B+

Rokkin delivered substantially less ass kicking than I'm used to. Still, it pushed the plot along pretty well, and the art is beautiful as ever. I'm a bit skeptical that they can wrap everything up in one more issue though, and the last page's reveal was pretty easy to see coming. Still, good as ever. A

Young Avengers/Runaways finally got to the damn point. And what a point it is. There's a massive battle royale where everyone gets at least one moment to shine, the pro-reg villain is made to look like a true Mengele, and it all wraps up in a satisfying way. My only complaint is that I don't see it as impacting the future of either team much. It basically ended with the same status quo it started with, only now both both of Marvel's premiere teen teams are acquainted with each other. B

    Firestorm #1 (Back Issue)
    - A funny thing happened this week. After picking up everything I came for I looked over the new releases to see if there was anything else that looked interesting, as it was a pretty light week. Then I saw the cover to the newest Firestorm, with a rather awesome cover featuring Flamebird and Firestorm tangled up in a pretty cool looking fistfight. And I thought to myself, 'Damn, I should be reading this.' But since I tend to abhor starting in on a series in the middle, I went diving in the back issue bins and found the first issue of the series, my intent being to start at the beginning and work my way up. I have to say, I'm still not sold. ChrisCross' art has seemed to degrade since his days working on Slingers, and it almost resembles a poor man's Humberto Ramos these days. Or maybe he's just a bit out of practice. The story, though kind of generic, still grabbed my interest. Still, not a very inspiring start. C+

I have heard that Firestorm picks up a lot once Stuart Moore and Jamal Igle come on board, so my question is, should I ride this out and pick up the back issues, or is it not really worth it?

I didn't start reading DC til the Crisis, so I missed the start of Firestorm, but I like what I'm reading now even if I don't know all the characters (that's true for all of my DC comic reading more or less).

As for Chaykin...I don't give a shit about writers and artists. I don't pay any attention at all to who's on a book generally speaking. So for me to know one of their names, either they're really good, or extraordinarily bad.

Chaykin is not good. I don't usually call art bad, since I know it's all better than mine, but I really can't stand his.
