So, I spent 5 weeks in Italy back in May/June, and came back with a major woody for pasta (as well as fresh seafood, wine, etc!), and have been trying my best to learn how to prepare Italian food. I just finished making some pasta, and thought I'd see if there were any other cooking enthusiasts out there (or even people who like to eat! hehe) to see if you have any suggestions!
Here's what I made: First, I boiled some penne in a pot, and steamed some red argentenian shrimp over the boiling penne. When the penne was done, I strained it, tossed it in some roasted garlic olive oil and set it aside. THen, in a seperate pan (skillet) I reduced some heavy cream, along with some chipotle butter and dill and a splash more of roasted garlic olive oil. Once that was roiling, I tossed in the penne and cooked shrimp and heated it all up again. Then I tossed in some smoked mozzarella that I had diced up and some lemon artichoke pesto, tossed it all up, then put it in a bowl and grated some fresh parmesean reggiano on. Here's a pic of the final result. Om nom nom nom! Do you guys have anything you like to cook that's grubbin' that you'd like to share? I'm always on the lookout for more good stuff to try and cook!
Really? I tried searching, but it's not working I'll try again, and if I can find it, I'll delete this post and reply to that thread. Thanks for the head's up!

i came in here all ready to make fun of you but man that looks incredibly delicious
That's funny, though, because the 2 countries (besides the US) that I've been to are Japan (when I was studying Aikido) and Italy (when I was selected as a team member for a Rotary International "thing"). Do I get a "white person" diploma or something now?
Actually, I did gorge myself on all the food over there! It was crazy, because I ate like a beast but had actually lost 7lbs by the time I got back to the US. Before I left for Italy, I was doing some MMA training and hitting the gym 4-5 days a week, too. That's part of the reason I've been trying to stick to what I was eating over there. A food regimen where you can eat pastas and crazy good desserts and drink wine all the time and still be slender? Hellz yes!
Man, if I had the ability to spend 5 weeks in Italy, I would come back home not wanting to see Italian food for months.
Since I don't though, I will use this time to hype up how fucking awesome Italian food is.
Cannoli, Tiramisu, all of the italian breads and cheeses, italian pizza, Ossobuco, Chicken Cacciatore, Gnocchi, Baked Ziti, Chicken Parmigiano, and oh my god anything Risotto. Sooooo gooooood alll of it!
OH MY GOD.
ALL I HAVE TO EAT TONIGHT IS RAMEN, WHY DID I CLICK ON THIS THREAD!?
You could always eat those candy canes hanging off your nipples. Those look tasty... Pasta's gone, though I'm thinking of regurgitating it and eating it one...more.... time

Rhequiem did you lurk before you started posting here?
Yeah, they gave me a pamphlet when I got back from Italy that had the URL (whatever that is) to this site (which is blue, which is my favorite color! Not really ) and told me to cook pasta and take pictures and put them up here! I thought that sounded like a lot of fun, and I was right! But seriously, I love you
Okay guys, I've got some colby jack, an old taco kit (shells are bad but the seasoning should be fine) and a pound of ground chuck.
Should I get some flour tortillas and make some chimichangas?
About how long should each one fry? Will I need to seal the tortillas with something?
I dont think you should have to seal them, but if you want to smear a little butter on the fold and then put it in the skillet with the flap side down first, you should be cool. Or are you going to use one of those big-ass fryers where you can put the whole thing in? Did you season the meat?! Season that shit! Cumin!

I was just going to use the taco kit seasoning packet.
Also, I don't know if I should use my bigass deep fryer or just a skillet with oil...
Also, how do I fold them? Sorta like a rectangle right?

I've lived off of rice, canned tuna, and storebought pumpkin pie this weekend. I feel downright bilious.

This is my favorite post of the last several months.
I was reading this while on the toilet and now I'm not constipated any more. Reported as awesome post.
