Peaceful piano music

Okay, so I was browsing this odd website called flyscape:

http://www.whereisthemoon.com/fly/

Nifty little site, but something that caught my attention was the piano music in the background. So peaceful!

Suddenly I am in the mood for some piano music that sounds similar to this piece. I'm not really looking for classical works, just something simple and clean, like the one setting up the ambiance throughout that island setup.

Can anyone help?

I heard this before, sounds like a Final Fantasy tune. Not sure though but it defiantly belongs to some RPG.

Funny thing is, RPGs are a great source of such piano pieces.

It sounds a lot like some minimalist composers I've heard. I'd maybe start with Philip Glass or Erik Satie, although the music on that website is a little bit more upbeat.

Go here and skip through until you find stuff that you like:

Yeah, I guess upbeat would be appropriate.

If there's some good rpg piano music out there, that'd be nice too, but i'm real hesitant on that because for most RPG games it starts sounding too MIDI and not like the real thing.

Philip Glass' Solo Piano album is very relaxing. I frequently put it on repeat while studying.

Some songs from NIN's Ghosts are very relaxing.

My recommendations are: 1 Ghosts I, 12 Ghosts II, 13 Ghosts II (this especially holy crap it is like laying in the tall grass on a warm summer day), 22 Ghosts III (sort of, some other instrumentation comes in about a minute in)

Some non-Ghosts relaxing piano NIN: Adrift and at Peace, Gone Still

Really my top recommendations would be 13 Ghosts II and Adrift And At Peace.

You can actually find CDs that are instrumental versions of RPG music. I few years ago I picked up the Final Fantasy S and N generation CDs, which take popular FF music and have orchestras/symphonies perform them. I also have a piano only collection of Final Fantasy 5 and Final Fantasy 9 music.

...I know that the Final Fantasy soundtrack I have (the Playstation one) has a really nice version of "Eyes on Me" from FFVIII and "Ami" (the Balamb Garden theme) in piano. I like them both.

    Debussy's Claire de Lune

I love it, but it's not like the music in the background of this game

And the fact that I just found out it was used in twilight makes me so angry

I was actually thinking of making a topic along the same lines as this, so I'll be eager to hear everyone's suggestions.

By the way, the music on the website you mentioned is from the Beyond Good and Evil soundtrack. It's free to download, in MP3 format, here. I have to say this is honestly one of the best game soundtracks out there.

Here's a couple of others I can think of:
    • Beyond Good and Evil - Thoughtful Reflections (also available from the link above)
    • Trash 80 - Out of Breath (available here)
    • Trash 80 - Impact of Silence (also available from the link above)
    • Xerxes - Slide (available here)
    • Joe Hisaishi - Train Ride (Spirited Away soundtrack)
    • Thomas Newman - Any Other Name
    • Gary Jules - Mad World
That's all I can think of now.

EDIT: Oh, none of these are really upbeat. But I find them relaxing and peaceful at least, and I'd definately recommend them all.

Well whatever that song is classified as. It's relaxing and peaceful, but upbeat/uplifting at the same time.

Also Flay is the best people.

I like the Democritus theme in Anachronox. I heard something similar to it on some travel documentary. The piano's like, they do some kind of 'steps' thing. I really don't know how to describe it.

Looks like you need a password in order to listen to those Beyond Good and Evil tracks.

I downloaded the .rar file fine, it's just that anytime I click on an mp3 it asks for a password.

    Crud.

EDIT: Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata is a nice piece to chill out to too.

If you like peaceful piano music, you may also like peaceful guitar music from the likes of Andy McKee and Antoine Dufour. Here are some of my favorites:

    Antoine Dufour - Trilogie

    Andy McKee - Rylynn

Whisperings Solo Piano Radio is perfect for this kind of thing. It's free, and you can find it easily if you have iTunes under it's classical radio section. It has a great selection with very occasional breaks for a commercial asking you to subscribe and support the station. Other than that, it's just cool, soothing, beautiful solo piano music.

It's my personal favorite for when I'm writing or working - it fills the silence beautifully without drawing much of my attention.

Some songs will no matter what though :)

I've recently discovered, and starting learning to play Love by John Lennon . That is the full song, the beginning is kind of quiet, and is probrably why you find a lot of versions that start kind of in the middle right before he starts singing.

All the FF Piano collections are pretty good. Joe Hisashi also has a lot of great stuff.

Sol - I'm actually well aware of Candyrat records, and am actually working on learning Antoine Dufour's Song for Stephen. And of course Andy McKee is fantastic.

Chopin's Raindrop Prelude. Peaceful, melancholy monotony (of the best sort).

Here is a link to Vladimir Horowitz playing the piece:

If you're looking for generally peaceful music, maybe try Kansas' Dust in the Wind, or Moby's Porcelain. Radiohead's There There. It's all very decent, and very mellow.
