I think the criticisms of the last third are pretty overblown. There really is no excuse for the Fraud circle, but otherwise I found the quality to be pretty consistent throughout.
I bought the game almost ironically, just because so many gamers were hating it right off the bat. I didn't really expect anything but a few laughs at how ridiculous it was (and there were laughs, let me tell you). I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself actually enjoying the game. I wasn't blown away, but it was a good time.
It's a pretty solid "fans-of-the-genre" title.
Agree. The gameplay has some minor annoyances that make it not scale in difficulty though.
But yeah, the story was hilarious, especially when,
Beatrice is running from the assassin guy and her titties just pop out of her shirt. Holy fucking shit. How can you ever do something like that unironically?
Honestly, the face that the developers seem to intend this game to be serious makes every single piece of the plot a treasure.

This post reminded me of this movie I watched last night - the Unrated version of Sex Drive. They digitally inserted a lot of naked chicks, a few naked dudes, and there was one really long run sequence that was just a shot of black cock flopping around. It was all done in a hilarious, obviously intended manner in which the movie mocks itself, in contrast to Dante's Inferno, which had a lot of gratutious nudity but takes itself very seriously.
Yea, I need to get some kinda guide for all 30 coins and relics. I have every trophy except those 3.
I also didn't go through my trophy list before I started playing (or while playing first time through) because I hate how some trophies can spoiler things if they didn't make it a "???" trophy. So I played through it on Hard my first time, thinking there was a Hard trophy... beat the game, go through trophy list, no hard trophy
But I really enjoyed this game. The raging clit whores were probably the hardest mob to fight in Hard mode.
I got through that by whoring the cross attacks... a lot.
I had a rank 3 artifact to extend the time that combos lasted myself, specifically because I was pre-warned about that bullshit.
But yeah, lacking that, I can see how that would not be even slightly fun. Honestly, that developer should publicly apologize for that challenge.

I didn't have any pre-warning, of course I knew that area of the game was a giant turd of turddom but I wasn't aware of specifics. Thankfully whoring the cross makes it pretty easy - you can see in the video when he starts doing it that he gets closer and closer until he finally does it.
That challenge was pretty retarded but tbh, I had more trouble with the one that had you killing a set amount of airborne enemies without touching the ground. In fact, the game as a whole fails in the structure department.
Meh, he's hamming it up a little, or he's just really bad.
With little effort you can find the relics that extend the combo timeout and make it where enemy attacks don't interrupt your cross attacks and it makes that part extremely trivial.
Although that brings up a peeve of mine where in games your choice of skills and equipment can either make the game extremely difficult or extremely easy.
But if he didn't know it was coming, he may not have been prepared for it. Sort of like trying to play a stealth character in Morrowind. The game eventually becomes impossible to win.

I agree and it's a pretty glaring flaw for Dante's Inferno that concentrating on one skill tree over another can completely change the game dynamic.
It bothers me so much that punishing guys is "bad" and redeeming them is "good." Going by Dante's (the real dante) morality, punishing the wicked should be good and redeeming them should be bad because God put them in Hell for a reason, and if you contravene God's will you wind up in hell. I mean, Dante is doing the exact same shit that Lucifer is in there for, he's rebelling against God's will.
Ok so this thread seems to be mostly dead. Last activity was over a month ago. But I just rented this cause I've got a couple days off so I figured I'd try to sink my teeth into it and get a quick Platinum Trophy cause I heard the game was short.
So for those of you veterans of the game, can anyone kindly outline for me a plan on what I need to do / accomplish on my playthrough in order to hit all the trophies? Any tips or advice on how to knock this out over a rental period would be appreciated.

in a way, it is good though because you are sacrificing yourself to put these people in heaven. they show examples of you experiencing and partaking in most sins, so to condemn them for those sins is hypocrisy. but anyways it don't matter none, i'm really taking my time on this game since some parts are not so fun (fighting your

There aren't any difficulty challenges, so play on whatever difficulty you feel like. As for what I did, I played through maxing out my Holy Tree on the first play through, and didn't sweat finding all the collectibles. Even not actively looking for them though, I still found all 27 souls. First play through took me about six and a half hours.
Second time through, I worked on my Unholy Tree, and sat with a guide for the collectibles on my laptop next to me. You should be able to get every achievement except the Gates of Hell Arena one. The 666 Combo achievement can be gotten at a point very near the end of the game.
When Beatrice is putting you through the trials, the first trial tasks you with eliminating all the enemies while using unlimited magic. Use the cross artifact you got from your father (not the light-cross, the one that acts like a boomerang), all powered up from the Unholy Tree, crank the difficulty up to Inferno (which can be done on the fly from within the game), and just spam the fuck out of that cross for the entire trial. You should get damn near up to an 800 combo before the end.
Second play through took me about four and a half hours.
After that, in the main menu, you should have the Gates of Hell Arena unlocked. If you just want the achievement, and not to challenge yourself, just spam the light-cross attack through the whole thing. Doing this, it took me about 30 minutes to finish it up, and get the last achievement for 1000/1000.
Man, I would just like to spend a moment to rant about something that really bugs me about this game. All the one-way areas which block you off or prevent you from returning to other areas. I've missed quite a number of hidden items, simply because I accidentally picked the "right way" first, and therefore missed my chance at several items.
For example, I'm in Anger right now, going through the black forest. I just got to a part with a zipline and two different places I could jump off. Logically, I would assume that the jump-off place at the end of the zipline would be the "correct" way to go, so I dropped off early to go get the item I saw on the ledge. Unfortunately for me, the first stop was the correct one, and the one to go all the way to the end was what I should have done first in order to collect everything. There's no way back up onto the zipline, so now I'm just fucked and won't get whatever is over there until another play-through.
I fucking cannot stand poor level design like this. If you're gonna place hidden treasures, make it more goddamn obvious which way is the story progression path so that I don't lock myself out of hidden areas. The above example is only one of several instances in which this happened to me. I guess you gotta play the fucking game once through just to learn all the ways you shouldn't go first if you want to collect everything.
I've only got this game for a rental period, and I'm playing on the easiest possible setting. I'm doing so because I want to see the story and get all the trophies, not because I want to challenge myself. Its fucking pissing me off that I'm missing all this shit that I know where it is, simply because I made a poor decision on which path to take first and inadvertently chose the path that progressed the story and locked me out of a pick-up of some kind.
God damn.
This game isn't even that good. Everything I've read and experienced so far indicates that a Platinum Trophy should be pretty easy to obtain, but I'll be damned if I have to go through a couple more times to find everything.
After playing God of War 3, this game is very obviously a second tier wannabe. There's no doubt about it. I might just finish the story and call it done, despite how "simple" it would be to plat. I just don't care enough to play it a couple more times to do so.
The level design isn't that good, the enemies aren't very original, the combat is not as fun as GOW3 and basically, every moment I spend playing Dante's, I spend wishing I were playing the far superior GoW3.
I don't think blocking off previous areas is the thing that's irking you, it's more the placement of secret items etc. Even GoW blocks off areas after you pass through thembut it doesn't give you any reason to want to go back, like you can't miss any collectibles and if you do, it's because you couldn't be bothered with it.
Yeah, that's another way of looking at it. The placement is just poor. Level design doesn't make much sense sometimes. The path that seems like it should be the right way to go ends up being a dead end with a hidden item, and the path that looks like it leads to a hidden item ends up being the story progression path.

Man, I was waiting for the PSP version, and now it's out, hardly any decent reviews are up. There's a spanish (I think) Eurogamer review that gave it an 8/10, saying in the metacritic blurb that it's better than the console games, but then there's the IGN review saying moving dodge to pressing the shoulder buttons together ruins the combat (which is ridiculous, since it fit perfectly in Chains of Olympus and the game is basically a GoW carbon copy).
I really wish more sites would review PSP games more, especially if they're part of a multiplatform release. It's not going to be the same fucking game.

It really shouldn't take you more than two times through total to get every trophy. And the second time through, you'll know all the puzzles and where to go, which should shave a couple hours off your time. I only put in about 11-12 hours to max out my achievements.
If I start a New Game +, will it remember which items I've already found? Like will any relics I already have be missing in the NG+? Or will I have to find everything all over again?
I'm in the suicide wood right now. I feel like I'm almost done.
Yeah, it's called reincarnation, or something like that. You'll start just as you get into hell, and not have to bother with the introduction/chase sequence again.
When you start a New Game+, you don't get any Judas coin bags and have to start over with those (and maybe the Beatrice shards?). All of the rest of the stuff, you get to keep.
Sorry to bump this so much... Is this worth the $14 it costs shipped at gamefly right now? I guess I missed all the actual feedback once the game came out and only read the negative hype leading up to it.
The actual gameplay is fairly "eh," and the game starts recycling enemies/ideas pretty quick. And the plot sucks even if you don't care about the literature thing.
Depends on how bad you're itching to play a God of War knockoff.

Advertise it as the "Unrated" version with even more gratuitous tit shots. Guaranteed it'll sell higher!
