You guys should all read JonBob's post.
And read it a couple more times for good measure.
Because that's basically all that needs to be said about that piece of news.
You don't understand. They promised! 5000 songs~! PROMISED!
Oh, and free copies of Texas Flood because they missed a month for an album release...
Pass it on!
Actually don't.
The RB forums don't really need another to demand free stuff...
I'm just salty because my 360 died and I can't enjoy this honest to god bounty of 5,000 of the best songs in musical history.
Like MrDelish says, to reach 5000 by the end of the year, they'd have to release near 100 songs per week. Unless they spent last year hoarding songs and the rights to release them, that'd be an awful lot of filler every week. It'll make the Headphones On/Naked Bros. week look epic by comparison.
No sane person should really believe they could reach 5000 songs this year. At least if they also expect continued quality.
I suppose you've already done it, but if you haven't I can drum for you.
Yeah, we finished up about a half an hour ago. It didn't go so well...
How's that? You finished, didn't you?
(You should have waited, I can do all those songs!)
Well, it wasn't up to me...
Turns out, the drummer we snagged wasn't quite up to it. The opening of Everlong was bad enough, but Painkiller just kind of killed it before either Willeth or I could start playing. I expect he's gone to sleep, but Willeth does want to try it again.

Well, i've become one of them. One of those, has to play on Breakneck speed, players.
I played with it the other day for about 10 songs or so. I loaded up RB2 and jumped into quickplay only to see the gems slugging down the screen. I couldn't take it.
Lunker, thanks for telling me the easier way to unlock things a few pages back, but if I've unlocked all the tiers will that be every song, or do I need to unlock all the infinite decades?
The fastest progression to unlock the songs in challenge is something like:
1. Play the first challenge for whatever instrument you choose in the first tier (Local Upstart - <instrument> Warmup - 3 songs), this will unlock a challenge for the same instrument in tier2. For Bass, you have to pick the Fender Warmup as your first challenge, afterward you'll be able to access the Bass specific challenge.
2. Play the same instrument challenge in the tier2 (Underground Favorite - <instrument> Apprentice 4 songs). That will unlock the 90' hits Challenge.
3. Play the 90's hits challenge (Opening Act - '90s Hits - 4 songs), that will unlock the Infinite 90's challenge (thus unlocking all the 90's songs in quickplay) and the 60's hits challenge.
4. Play the 60's hits challenge (Chart Topper - '60s Hits - 2 songs), which unlock the 60's infinite challenge (thus unlocking all the 60's songs in quickplay) and the 00's hits challenge.
5. Play the 00's hits challenge (Headliner - '00s Hits - 4 songs), which unlock the 00's infinite challenge (thus unlocking all the 00's songs in quickplay) and the 70's hits challenge.
6.Play the 70's hits challenge (Legendary Act - '70s Hits - 4 songs), which unlock the 70's infinite challenge (thus unlocking all the 70's songs in quickplay) and the 80's hits challenge.
7. Play the 80's hits challenge (The Impossible Challenges - '80s Hits - 4 songs), which unlock the 80's infinite challenge (thus unlocking all the 80's songs in quickplay).
Doing this will unlock every songs in the game, and all you had to play is 25 songs.
That's it, you don't have to play any of the infinite challenge.

It's great, isn't it. Now try breakneck speed in band play, it's even faster (too fast for me).

Breakneck speed with up to 2 instrument charts is heaven. Breakneck speed with a full band is a whole different beast.
The first time I used it I went into band quickplay with my brother and one of his friends who was over at his house. First song he randomly picks is Welcome to the Neighborhood - which I hadn't even heard at that point. I think a lot of my dislike for that song is partially due to that terrible first experience, especially since my brother and his friend had no idea what I was doing to keep rockin' the red-line.

Let me just announce that I'd like to track down the Harmonix employee who decided the Guitar part in "Hello there" is rank one and punch him in the testicles.
I can alt-strum, I can reliably get five stars in most songs up to tier four, but goddamn I can't get five stars on that damn song no matter how hard I try.
similarly, shoot the runner shouldn't be rank 0. not a hard song, it owns on guitar, in fact it owns period, but if you think it's in the same rank as "maps" well then you're retarded.

Maps imo is waay under ranked on drums. Jesus I have gold starred songs ranked as hard or harder and can still barely get through it on hard. Rankings are nice but they are not a perfect science.

Well see the problem is that some things are easier to other people.
Like Maps was one of the first songs I was able to do on Expert.

You make me feel good, man. It's awesome how you've been excited about this song ever since it came out. I cast my vote for it as one of the best DLC I've gotten thus far.
And good God, yes it's better than Maps; the limed section proves it.
I played them all once through on guitar. There's not really any standout song like China Cat Sunflower but none of them are boring to play, they all mix it up enough to keep it interesting. None of them are very difficult but some are tricky enough so that most people won't be able to gold star them immediately.
Bass should be fun enough too, as I'm sure vocals are, and drums were just covered.
I just went through my HDD and deleted a load of videos and themes and gamerpics and whatnot - got myself three gig back. That'll all disappear once the Party Pack and Lost and Damned come out, though.

So the wife was trying to preview the dead songs yesterday, but none of them had the option for a preview? a bug with XBL, or is it us somehow?
Sony promotes Spectacular! with Rock Band
Two videogame tracks available with DVD
By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 1/27/2009
The disc will include two tracks for Rock Band.
JAN. 27 | Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s March 31 release Spectacular! is being billed as the first DVD to offer two new tracks for popular music videogame Rock Band.
Premiering on Nickelodeon on Feb. 16, Spectacular! features a rowdy musician named Nikko who is dumped from his band and later recruited by the high school choir. The feature ($24.94; prebook Feb. 5) includes original music from High School Musical songwriters Robbie Nevil and Matthew Gerrard and stars Zoey 101’s Victoria Justice and Young and the Restless’ Tammin Sursok, among others.
Sony decided to add in the free bonus Rock Band tracks in order to best enhance the title’s music appeal. Consumers will use unique codes located inside the Spectacular! DVDs to redeem Nikko-sung tracks “Break My Heart†and “Don’t Tell Me†for download through the Rock Band Music Store. Additionally, the tracks will be able to be purchased for 99¢ each through the Xbox 360 staring Feb. 3 and through the PlayStation 3 starting Feb. 5.
Rock Band revolves around people achieving the best sound through karaoke singing and simulated guitar and drum play.
“Spectacular! is so rock song driven, and the biggest thing in music that people are excited about is Rock Band,†said Marc Rashba, Sony VP of marketing. “There is a wait list for bands to get their songs included in Rock Band. So we thought that we could jump our two songs into the mix.â€
Rashba said the relationship between Rock Band co-creator MTV and its Viacom sister Nickelodeon helped bring the game tracks to Spectacular!
Other bonus features on the DVD will include a video diary, instructional dance video, a making-of featurette, two music videos and a downloadable ringtone.
I'm more amazed Sony is doing anything with Rock Band.
It's usually been Microsoft that's jumped on any type of promotion for Rock Band (and Guitar Hero as well) and Sony has been taking a back seat to pretty much everything.
Sony's various branches are surprisingly independent. I remember recently hearing about their music division suing their electronics division, for example. I bet this is the Sony BMG doing this deal, which probably has almost nothing to do with the PlayStation division.
In more saddening news, it appears that GH:WT outsold RB2 (compiling all sku's) 2:1 last year. I can't read the actual article but here's the link from my RSS feed :

Rock Band Profile/Rock Band DLC
I think I liked Fire on the Mountain most. The chart was pretty unique and very fun to play:

The other tracks all did some pretty neat stuff too. I don't think the pack is as good as the first GD pack at all, but it's still a lot of fun.
Hell In A Bucket kinda stood out for taking the standard "rock" beat and doing some interesting things with it.
Bass should be fun enough too, as I'm sure vocals are, and drums were just covered.

I guess that means DLC won't slow down ever.
It also suggests that either this deal has been in the works for a while or that these songs were given priority for marketing concerns.
So far, reaction is fairly muted, but that is likely to change with the official announcement.

I just hope EA/MTV/HMX don't take this as a guaranteed bad sign.
