Continuing the OT, why in the fuck do articles have "More after the jump!" when in fact you just have to scroll down a couple inches past some stupid banner ad? There's no jumping involved, no clicking... so stupid.

Back on topic: Harmonix is off to a very slow start if they think they're gonna get 5,000 by the end of the year. They're already behind by about 346 songs for this month alone!

If you're reading the article itself you're seeing the text that appears on the front page as well as the full text.

So there are two beats that I just cannot do at anything above 80BPM. Both of them are alternating kick/pad/kick/pad, and I have trouble with this kind of pattern all the time. Does anyone have any tips on getting my brain right to figure these out?

This is going to be hard to explain, but: The way I do this pattern is by mentally linking "hitting the pads" with "lifting up my knee." So instead of thinking "kick, pad, kick, pad," I think, "pad+knee, rest, pad+knee, rest," then on the offbeat, I raise the sticks and lower my knee at the same time.

Think of it as doing crunches, just in a sitting position.

That's what I've been trying. I can hit the first bit but then there's a kick in time with the yellow pad (I think it's the last 'tricky kicks' beat) and it throws me right off.

Has this been posted before? Apparently they brought back the song request form. Follow the link and select 'Request a Song' (may need to scroll down a bit).

Now we can once again suggest songs with the hope that somebody will actually see the request.

Lets keep this on the down low... if you know what I'm saying...

I say we at PA, need to organize some sort of mass requesting. As in we all take turns submitting Arikado's choice, then JC's choice, etc...

It might look nicer if whoever the poor bastard at HMX sees 28 requests in a row for a band than just scattered randomly.

Didn't some forum do this in hopes of getting a Rick Astley pack?

The only thing I'd request probably falls along the lines of major bands not being represented or not having enough songs available. Queen, Radiohead, etc...

Also, the survey thing on RB.com is pretty awesome:

Which Rock Band song is the theme for your Valentine's Day?
    25% "Oh, Pretty Woman"
21% "Charlene (I'm Right Behind You)
18% "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
    16% "Flirtin' With Disaster"
    10% "Aesthetics of Hate"
    8% "Sir Psycho Sexy"
    6% "Bye Bye Love

Fly, RPM, Every Morning, Someday, Falls Apart, and When It's Over all got pretty heavy radio airplay (some still do), so I'd hesitate to call them a one-hit wonder.

And I would liken them to Barenaked Ladies in the sense that yeah, pretty much everyone knows them for one song, but beyond they're still a pretty good solid band all-around. I own all their albums and not a single one of them is bad, really. Perfect driving music.

I see some kind of Ska/Dub pack made up of (mostly)SoCal bands active at that time. Maybe filled with one-hit wonders. Maybe not. Sublime, Reel Big Fish, and Save Ferris come to mind. No Doubt probably has more stuff available to fit the theme.

If you were to expand out of SoCal, there could be more Mighty Mighty Bosstones. And I know I'd like to see some Skankin' Pickle love.

If they're gonna put Sugar Ray in there, they should totally throw everyone for a loop and go for Mean Machine. Classic case of a band being one thing then completely caving to label pressure to "re-invent" themselves to be more commercial. Kind of like if you heard Vicarious and More Than Words, then found out it was the same band, only More Than Words is their "new" style. Forever.

Kotaku in general has just been shit lately. His review of the SF4 TE joystiq showed a serious lack of knowledge about that segment of the market. Yes there are 4 buttons in each row. They are there for those of us who like KoF in addition to SF. I am not asking for much but if you are going to write about the vidyas know what your talking about or take the time to educate yourself, k thx.

OT, but as a public service announcement I like to remind everyone that all Gawker media sites are tabloid attention-whores. They make no bones about the fact that each bloggers' bonuses are directly related to the amount of clicks their individual stories garner.
Essentially, Gawker Media writers will now be paid in any given month the greater of two numbers: either their base pay, or the number of times their articles have been viewed, multiplied by their site's "pageview rate" (as determined every quarter).

Ever wonder why every story teases you and tells you to "hit the jump" (a term I, as a former newspaperman, despise with every fiber of my being)? Now you know.

I was wondering why Kotaku had gone to shit over the last year. Granted, I never went there for any serious news (I usually went their for niche Japanese crap that their night editor posts. Some of it was hilarious). Now it's pretty clear why they used bold text and huge images to grab people's attention. That and the obvious flame bait at times (I remember that whole N'Gai Croal debacle over RE5). I'm glad they got punk'd by CAG.

Anyway, not to veer any further off topic, I now use Joystiq for quick news and opinions. The only time they make you "hit the jump" is for either press release or opinions when they post editor articles.

If we're getting more Muse in the game I want Newborn simply because I spent like a week memorising it for a band audition that never happened and I want to show off.

Also I got that damn drumbeat down (for a given value of down). The one that's fucking me over right now is the Toms of Doom one right at the end and I know I can do it, it's just actually doing it that's the issue. :(
