So I went to Circuit City last night and picked up a MadCatz Fender Precision Bass for 20% off. This thing is fucking awesome. I suck, as I am not actually use to playing this way, and am pretty much learning how to play all over again, but its responsive and has a good tilt sensor. I feel like this will help me kick ass at Bass where I couldn't seem to grasp the concept of alt-strumming before.

I'll only accept Fear of the Dark if we get Aces High and 2 Minutes to Midnight as well.

I rather see those two along with The Trooper.

I'll take those, along with Wrathchild, and I'll be content with the Maiden.

Hell, can we just do a Fear of the Dark, Aces High, 2 Minutes to Midnight, The Trooper, Number of the Beast master, Run to the Hills master, and Wrathchild pack? :P

I've been waiting so long for any Maiden since Number of the Beast cover. I would love a fat track pack like this one.

As a convict from the land of Oz, i have only tied GH:WT which was a blast. But looking at the paltry selection of DLC, I started perusing the lists for the songs available in Rock Band 2. I was blown away, and now crave this game. THere seems to be no information about a release date, though. Anyone got an inkling of when I can start smashing some drums?

    Release date for where?

It's out everywhere as far as I know for all 4 consoles.

Maybe hard to find in Australia and in Europe.

Rock Band 1 is out in australia, ranging from May to November depending on your system.

I don't see anything about RB2 in Australia.

Atleast all that DLC is compatable with both versions of the game.

Edit : HAARP would be awesome as album DLC, especially with Matt's "extended epilogues" for some of the songs, as I call them. But I think Absolution probably has the largest amount of "game-worthy" songs.

I've seen some mention that UK region games are compatible in OZ. If that's the case, importing could be a way to go. I'd figure the extra cost would have to be worth getting it sooner. Of course, the 20 free might be an issue due to the different stores...

    Don't worry -- me neither.

Well OK maybe a little -- I took five semesters of that God-forsaken language (2002-2004) -- but all I really have to show for it is an ability to complete Japanese class homework assignments and pass tests, and to briefly memorize sets of 30 kanji long enough to be tested on it and then forget it all. Oh and a lower GPA.

It does seem plausible that news for that product would be initially released in a language native to where the product will be released -- but less plausible that absolutely no English language media would have picked up and translated some of that Japanese release news.

It's also not like Rock Band is entering the market with major entrenched competition. GH might have the 'name', but it's only two years older as a franchise. We're not talking about a juggernaut like Madden or something, no matter what Activision would like to say.

    RB -> EA -> Madden.

    Ironic.

Yeah... Not seeing it... Is that like rain on a wedding day?

I'm from the US, I have no concept of irony. I just say things are ironic without knowing if they are.

My point was, following up on the Activision doesn't have a Madden on their hands comment, it's kinda funny cuz EA published RB2, and EA has Madden. It was... oh fucking nevermind.

So I found LIPS online for $40. I'm sorta low on cash, and just can't seem to justify the purchase. I'd basically be paying for the mics, because I can't see myself ever trying to just sing anything after Rock Band, and with that setlist, REM and Radiohead are the only 2 songs I may ever WANT to sing.

Part of me wants to buy it, snag the black mic out of it, and try and re-sell the game and one mic. How good are the mics? I just know that $40 is a steal for the game + 2 mics, and I'd love a wireless mic (assuming that patch is still coming), but am not really sure if I need Lips...

My right nut is still on offer for a Porcupine Tree album... or pack... or song... or anything really.

Seriously, sometimes I wonder just how much more fun Rock Band would be if it actually had music that I listen to on an everyday basis. It's an interesting game. The motion-sensitive mics are pointless, but the actual game is alright, I guess. The interface could do with some work but I definitely had fun with my family playing it at Christmas.

Radikal, trust me... not every song you love will actually be fun in RB. I found that out the hard way with The Hand That Feeds. Not that it's the best song ever, but I thought I would really enjoy it, and I kinda don't. Conversely, Hysteria, Little Sister, all of Moving Pictures and most of the Foo Fighters all rule. But I can imagine that having some Mansun or dredg songs that I absolutely love in RB wouldn't be any fun because they're too soft, or too simple.

No, I agree. And it seems like Harmonix, for the most part, is picking and choosing the songs that are actually fun to play. That's why we sometimes get a big artists' relatively lesser-known stuff rather than their big hit. Like Devo's "Uncontrollable Urge" rather than "Whip It." I love Whip It, but I imagine playing it would put me to sleep.

Oh don't get me wrong, Harmonix knows how to pick some fun songs to play. I'm just lamenting the fact that the music I usually listen to is a bit less mainstream than they probably want to sell. I can't hold my breath on ever getting songs from Oceansize or Pure Reason Revolution, because I know it's not going to happen. I just wonder how much more awesome the game would be if it did.

And, hey, Dredg would have some fun songs to play. I think their drumming may be a bit hard on some, though. Ode to the Sun would be pretty awesome, I must say.

So my wife was bored last night and surfing thru the RB store... she got to the bottom and said, "what the hell is that"

referring to Yngwie. She hit the preview button and listened to it (the song without vocals) for a while and actually decided she liked it.

She asked why she hadn't heard of it before, so I explained that I probably called it metal and you probably just tossed it out then and there.

She hates metal, but loves a lot of prog (closer to Coheed stuff, she doesn't like Prequal to the Sequal). For some reason though, she really seemed fond of those Yngwie songs...

I... I just don't know what to think.
