Just picked up the RB Fan Pack (tshirt + dvd + ac/dc rb) for 30$. I'm actually splitting it up into two presents since both my dad and stepdad like AC/DC, but my stepdad isn't really into the whole band DVDs thing and my dad is horribly bad at Rock Band to the point that he never plays it. Now if only it came with two shirts..
Also it'd be kind of gaudy to have the "ONLY 47.70" thing on the front of the box.
And of course I can use the code to download the songs so everyone wins!
Also, by the way, the free shipping on those Xplorers turned out to have tracking on them anyway, even though it says Tracking Unavailble when selecting it.
Fun stuff though, I remember someone saying that Jonathan Coulton had a song in the music store, this still true?
On the PS3 and 360 at least, Still Alive is free and Skullcrusher Mountain is the standard price, as well as being in a pack with MC Frontalot's Livin' at the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe and The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets' Shhh.... No idea about how much they're going to be putting on the Wii one.

I enjoy BnL and I'm glad to see them in Rock Band but I would like to see something other than Christmas music in the future.

Also, I believe Harmonix said that all the money they get from that pack goes directly to Child's Play.
More Foo Fighters? I mean, I love them, but can't we have something else now? I really can't buy any more Foo tracks, after purchasing the whole of the album.
I've managed to get a lot better at drums, mostly by sheer determination. I've also started learning real drums, which may have contributed to it a bit.
Listening to some Texas Flood, never heard of them before, but they're pretty damn good.

Don't know how the Wii version of DLC works, but some of us on the 360 downloaded the songs individually since at the time (did the prices go up?) it cost the same as the full pack. That way we could delete any of the songs we didn't like and still donate the full cost to charity. Turns out, all the songs are pretty decent (MC Frontalot gets grief on guitar...)

Well, going for bladder of steel.
I'm at about song 35 so far on medium vocals. Just a matter of time really.
Cooking a pizza and posting this during "give it away" :P

So? Let me guess... Because it's the only one 'interesting' on the different instruments? I said they were decent songs, not fun or challenging on all instruments. They're cheap, the money is for charity, and the 360 allows for deletion of individual songs. If the Wii does as well, then Wii owners can use the same tactic to raise their karma and gain more music.
Plus, YouTube is full of instrument charting videos that potential buyers can use to have a look-see and find out if fun/challenging songs are more important than donating a buck to a good cause.
Just picking up a copy of Rock Band for the Holidays? Know your going to get one? Just want to create an alternate band 'just because'? Can't think of a clever band name? Try this for inspiration!
And then don't... Because they're not really that clever.
So I just got a 360 and RB2... hooked it all up, logged into the store, bought some points, downloaded all the tracks I wanted. Everything works great, except I've got the problem where the song's vocals are whisper quiet no matter what song or instrument I play. All the levels are at 100 in the volume adjust menu and I've tried turning Dolby Digital off, to no avail. I remember reading that there was a patch to change this (I might have dreamed that, though) but if there is... how do I get it? I'm loving the game, but I'd love it even more if all the music balance wasn't messed up.

There is no patch for this as you would've received the title update the first time you connected to LIVE with the game running. And if it existed, it would've fixed it.
Are they whisper quiet when you play as a vocalist? The instrument being used in solo play is mixed a little louder for emphasis.
Also, are you using a surround sound setup with a center channel (or something similar)? Check to make sure that your setup is, well... set up properly. I run my audio through a stereo receiver and I'm using headphones without issue. (I'm not using an optical audio connection, however.)
Maybe you also need to make sure that the vocals themselves are turned up. Connect using a microphone and controller and adjust the vocal levels, just in case. You can do this by pressing and holding one of the buttons on the controller (X, Y, B... I forget which one.) and adjusting the appropriate level. This may not actually solve your problem since it's likely one of the first two.

Huh, ok... thanks for this. I didn't check the center channel, I'll have a look at it. Everything sounds great for everything else except Rock Band. I'll also check the vocalist levels... I did have a bunch of people over to play the first night I had it, so they might've changed the volume.
Thanks!

I forgot to mention it, and some might be confused by it, but to adjust levels as a vocalist, I believe you must be 'in song' to do it. At least that's when I usually make those adjustments. Right at the beginning before any of the vocals actually play.
Well, just keep Toby Keith out of it and I will buy any and all future Country Packs.
I can go with that, I can't stand most of Toby's music. That and he has a crappy ass theme restaurant at the Harrah's here in Kansas City (complete with $9 fried bologna sandwich).

See, now, for the really good instrumental playing with songs that actually don't suck, you can head on over to the bluegrass section and leaf around in that.
That's not to say all country sucks but stuff like, well, Toby Keith and pop country kind of does.
You can come over to my house... I'll fry up some Oscer Meyer slices, put 'em between some white bread, and slather on some mayo and mustard to taste. And I'll only charge $5 per sandwich.
Of course, you won't get the ambiance of a shitty theme restaurant owned by a shitty music celebrity... But I have my own copy of Rock Band, so there's that!
With a trimmed OP, I suppose we could throw up some PS3 and Wii tags into the OP since you could count one another on two hands.
Yeah, I won't deny it. I've been doing a bit of online tour, and once when I left a session, I ended up entering another one with someone else that had left that same band.

Bladder of Steel, GET!
Huzzah.
I'm almost saddened that I 4 star'd a song on medium (vocals). Damn rob the prez-o-dent.
I don't know if this is the right time to post this to get a good answer, but I'm about to lay down some serious cash for an Ion drum rocker and a bunch of accessories which cost more than the drum rocker do, and I wanted to get some feedback.
I *really* like playing drums in RB2. Obsessively so. But it's getting harder to enjoy my little RB1 "four pads plus a plastic pedal" kit. Also I just worked my ASS off in school this last semester, and I feel like I want to reward myself. (That Masters degree still seems so far away . . . .)
Here pretty soon I'm planning on placing some orders for all this stuff, but I wanted to throw this out here and give people a chance to provide some cautionary feedback, or stop me from doing something stupid. (Not as in "don't spend $900 on toy drums!" but as in "don't buy that, spend $50 more and buy this instead.")
OK, so my current shopping list:
Ion Drum Rocker, $300-ish
Third cymbal for drum rocker, $50
Two products from http://rockbandkickbox.com/ - the bass drum and the hi-hat pedal kit - $130 for both
Some kind of kick drum trigger -- Yamaha KP65 or Roland KD-8, I don't think I want to go cheap and use an inverted-beater solution like an Ergokik. $60 to $120
Double bass pedal, whatever feels good in the drum shop, $100 to $150
New drum throne -- my old one clearly wasn't designed for my weight -- probably a Pacific Drums DT900, $120-ish
Total, $760 to $870 ish before tax and shipping.
The bass drum kickbox is pretty much what it sounds like: you connect a kick drum trigger to it, tune it with the knob so it reliably detects all hits, even rapid ones, but doesn't trigger if you just bump the pad lightly. The hi-hat pedal kickbox needs explanation. It assumes that in RB2 songs, closed hat notes are on yellow and open hat are on blue. If no hihat pedal is plugged in, the hi-hat kickbox does nothing. If a pedal IS plugged in, then: if the pedal is down, yellow cymbal is yellow and blue cymbal is blue. If the pedal is up (not pressed), yellow cymbal is blue and blue cymbal is blue.
So if you're playing a beat where every couple measures the hi-hat is played open -- lots of yellow and then one blue, lots of yellow and then one blue -- you play the blue note by just lifting your hi-hat foot briefly and hitting the same hi-hat cymbal. No more reaching way over to the ride cymbal when the real drummer is obviously still playing the hi-hat.
The point of all this is: I'd like to add another 'metagame' on top of my RB2 drum playing: can I use a realistically-configured drum kit, and play the song while mimicing the motions of the real drummer? I think this kind of setup gets me closer to that.
Has anyone ever used either kickbox product? I don't see that much feedback at all from looking online, but what I do see looks good. I just want to make sure I'm not setting myself up for a huge disappointment.

The money isn't a huge problem, but think I know what you mean: the Ion kit by itself might scratch my itch sufficiently and I won't need the kick trigger or the hi-hat solution. I'm still buying the fat-guy-proof drum throne though. :-)
Edit: OK, Ion kit plus cymbal plus pork-pie-esque throne, $470-ish.
Then, if the pedal drives me up the wall like I think it might, I already have a single pedal, so I'll get the trigger and bass drum kickbox, $125 to $185
Then if reaching over to blue to play open-hat drives me nuts too, I'll get the hi-hat kickbox and use the Ion pedal for what Alesis intended it to be used for -- a hi-hat pedal. (Seriously. http://www.alesis.com/dm5prohhpedal Look familiar? :-) ), so $65 more.
(The double bass pedal will remain an option, maybe.)
Edit2: OK, I have a far FAR more important question to ask. That DT900 drum throne comes in different patterns. I'd prefer the all-black, but my local drum shop only has the white-with-zebra-print-on-top version.
See: http://www.pacificdrums.com/hardware/default.asp#900
Question: what does that drum throne do to my total aggregate awesome-points score? Add? Subtract? Does it depend on whether I'm any good while sitting on it?

I have been waiting for something like the Kickbox to use my real drumset with the game, since buying another set would be a little silly, even if it's a controller. I was even considering learning to solder a RB controller too.
