I promised my fiance a Wii Fit for Crimmace, but after a pretty brutal month of trying to finish up graduate work, time has slipped by and here I find myself on December 18th without previously giving any thought to its availability and my acquisition of one. It wasn't until today when I starting looking over who I need to buy some gifts for (and quickly) that I realized that I might not be able to just stroll into to the store, lay my money down, and say "Wrap me up a Wii Fit shopkeep, posthaste."
How screwed am I?
Edit: In case anybody doesn't see this as a full post, I'm asking for info on how hard they are to find and what is the best way I could get one? I haven't been in a game store in over a month so I have no idea how things are looking out there.
Apparently, those are still hard to find. It seems to be the thing people are buying to go with their Wiis, at least that's seems to be the case around here. They can get Wiis now, but the Wii Fit is the thing that's sold out for the most part. Good luck.
Find out when a local store is getting some. Get there early. That's my only suggestion.
In answer to your question: you're pretty screwed. Sorry. They're still selling like gangbusters.
You could try www.cheapassgamer.com, they occasionally let people know when stores get shipments. In the past Best Buy has put Wii stuff out first thing Sunday morning, so you could try that. Good luck.
Man, in my area, I see Wii fits in Wal-Marts occasionally, but never a Wii. I haven't seen a Wii in a store around here since a year ago when I actually worked at one. I, however, will still see Wii Fit at my local Wal-Mart(s).

This. I made this suggestion in a similar thread before, and it can't be understated. It'll at least give you SOME chance of getting it. Just when they say that a restocking is coming in for company X, BE THERE before the store opens. Make sure you're through those doors the moment it opens. Others will be.
Another good trick is to try Wal-Marts in tiny towns that are at least an hour away from the nearest metro area. Gamers never think to try there, and so games/systems/peripherals can often be found there when they sell out everywhere else.
I actually just saw a few Wii Fits at a Target near my house. I was under the impression that they were not all that hard to find anymore. My advice is to check out stores like Target, ones that carry electronics but thats not their main stock and trade. I'm sure you'll find one. And there's always the interwebs.
Assuming you're in the United States, if I see one at my local Walmart, I'd be willing to ship it to you if you pay me back. Won't be there in time for Xmas, but close enough.
Go to Amazon and sign up for their text alerts for Wii Fit. They let me know precisely when they would have some for sale. That's how I got mine. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll have some within the next few days.
I'm positive that one of us here would be happy to act as proxy for you if you want to buy one from Craigslist. I know I'd be happy to pick one up and ship it to you (assuming, of course, that you're somewhere in the US/Canada.)
Edit: Just looked, probably 60 or so sealed units have been posted on Craigslist in my area, just today. Not counting those bundled with Wiis.
Has Nintendo ever experienced supply shortages like this before? What the hell is it that makes everyone want this so bad?
The same sentiment was expressed about the Wii itself.
I really think it's something you have to experience yourself. If it appeals to you, it will do so very quickly. If not, it's just not for you.
The Wii definitely appealed to me, it just has way too few games. I've almost made the leap and bought one multiple times, but the asbolute dearth of games stopped me.

Wii-fit though, I just don't understand that.
I still use it regularly, and it's fun and handy as an exercise supplement. I'll leave it at that since we probably shouldn't debate the merits of the thing for the 47th time.
I didn't quite understand it either. However, we got one and I've enjoyed it. My wife was the one hunting it though and she only plays Tetris for the most part. My kids also really love it.

Target near my house has like 10 Fallout 3 and like 20 WoW CE's just sitting there.

I made a thread similar to this in H&A about a month ago, and found the tracker to be the most useful tool for figuring out when they were in stock.
I lucked out and ordered one exactly when the came back in stock at Amazon, though, so I couldn't claim success based off of the tracker. Good luck! You might end up paying a bit, but someone, somewhere should have it.
Definitely look in the Sunday ads for Best Buy etc... and get in line early in the morning. The best advice I got was that most of the stores that advertise the product have to hold them for Sunday, so Sunday morning might be your best shot finding them in a store. Call around and ask them if they know when they might have them in stock.
Simple solution: Tell your fiance that she has a perfect body and there is no need for a wii-fit. If you can say it with a straight face, you're set.
This will make her weak at the knees and you'll get to have wild monkey sex.
So really it's a win-win for all parties.
The only way a woman would get weak in the knees from a comment like that in lieu of an actual gift is if she punches you so hard and so often she runs out of breath.
You're supposed to say things like that and give her gifts. Don't let these guys lead you astray!
As others have said, it can range from uncommon to extremely rare depending on your location. It might be a good idea to give a general idea of where you're at, so if any of us sees some available while shopping in your area, we can throw you a PM.

I wanted to say this as well. It doesn't matter what you say, even if a woman says "oh let's not get each other anything for christmas" it usually doesn't mean that.
I came to this thread to report that I actually stopped by the walmart near my work to get a subway and on a whim checked electronics and lo and behold they had two wii fits left out of their shipment of 15 they recieved 30 minutes ago.
The dude said they don't know when they get their shipments so they have some people who stop by every day around the time the shipments come in.
There were 8 or 10 Wii Fits at my local Best Buy last night, and as an employee was arranging them in an attractive display, a lady walked by and grabbed one, ruining the pattern the employee was making with the boxes.
Sir, I suggest you team up with a random stranger and go on a hunt for the WiiFit. Perhaps even get involved in a criminal act involving a radio building in order to get a WiiFit. Just remember, in order to find a WiiFit, you will need the eyes of a snake.

Man, what a bitch.

This is actually the situation as I've seen it.
The production of the Wiis has caught up to demand. Not so for the newer Wii Fit.

You're gonna have to pony-up the dough, and pay through the nose for shipping, but there you go.

Unless one of them is allergic to monkey.
And he still has to buy a present.
Plenty of wiifits and wiis in australia. Although that helps you in no way at all.

This might just be your only option, short of paying a high premium for a bought-new online.
