PS3 Save Loading Problems Episode 2
Posts
Thanks Joel!
The issue has entirely nothing to do with the initial $15 purchase, it's the fact my time per hour is worth more than $15 dollars to start with. So to play 10 or some odd hours into a game only to have it be completely wasted is the problem. I, and I would assume the majority of the other gamers that have seriously problems with this costing them their time not and not about the purchase price.
Now to the nay sayers of me calling HH out on not fixing the save files, for some reason I highly doubt there is any more than 1 single way to access PS3's save game layer and that's most likely the exact same API that all games use for the PS3 which would then point out that it's not a physical file write corruption but the data contained inside the save file which from the way they previously made their save files it consisted almost entirely of just a table of contents you'd see in a book and then a flag of whether a user has completed that point.
There were issues similar to this for the first game on the PC that HH attributed to the cracked version of the game where a user would end up getting to a point where one of the chapter points wasn't marked completed and when the game would enter a load screen it would sit indefinitely because it couldn't figure out what to do. Most likely this is exactly the same issue in this game that one of the chapter points after completing the arsonist trophy is not set so when you go to reload the game the game can't figure out the state of the save file and sits there indefinitely.
Okay, That tears it.. Do you honestly think anyone on planet earth is stupid enough to belive your time is worth fifteen dollars an hour.. over twice the pay of minumum wage!?!?! "so your saying you are better then most people who walk the earth!?!?"
Is that what your saying? You lost any credibility you have now or ever will have,
I would be completely shocked if even mike and jerry or the guys at hot head made much over fifteen dollars an hour!
what your statment proves to me is, you have no idea of the value of work or money, and your mommy bought this game for you, you can deny it all you want, but your quoted statement proves otherwise.
Your insufferable arrogance and ignorance is beyond reason, from now on consider any posts you may slop on these forums as un read by me.... so dont expect a reply to what ever flaming turds you decide to throw. you honestly must have an iq of 12 to think anyone would be ignorant enough to believe your nonsencical trolling rant..
At any rate, darkened, you're still an idiot. Even if there is a single API to write to save files, if you only write crap to the hard drive, how are you supposed to magically turn that back into usable data?
Furthermore, the game is entertainment. It's adding value to your life, not taking it away. You can't "bill" the game for your time.
8-)
To be fair, Sony QA didn't catch this either (makes you wonder what they are for eh?)
The way some of these posts are going you'd think HH said "screw you all, we ain't gonna fix it!"
They have fixed it, your $15 is still valid and you'll have a fully working game soon.
Do you seriously only have this game to play?? I've been keeping busy with other games until the patch is pushed then I can play Episode 2 again.
P.S. As a programmer of many moons it's always interesting to see the many and varied opinions of exactly what programming entails from the many commentators in discussions such as these.
it's prolly psn's fault for it getting past qa, and now i'm holding off on any purchases until i hear confirmation that there aren't any bugs. how this bodes on my intent to buy the rest of the series is still undetermined. i love penny arcade, but i don't like losing data. that's what a qa is for.
and i paid $15 for a PARTIALLY working game, not a full game. had the game been sold with fine print, that would be one thing, but we all had a reasonable expectation that the game would work.
In the end, I had to go back and re-play about 4 hours of a game that I enjoyed anyways, so I survived. People who act as if this has broken all their trust in HH as a developer need to take a deep breath and step back from the edge of the cliff. It's unfortunate, but hardly catastrophic.
But I'm in no way damning PE or the dev's. This is Sony's problem. THEIR QA flubbed. Just like it flubbed on SOCOM, LBP and Fallout. I'm seeing a pattern. I may hate M$, but I'm starting to lose faith in Sony.
I'll prolly replay the game, but I'm not going to have a smile on my face. If I've lost faith in anyone, it's the PSN. For future PE games, I'll wait for a disc-based compilation.
We appreciate your patience waiting for this fix, and hope you enjoy the game!
Oh sweet, finally! I just poked my head in here to check if it was fixed and horaaay it is. :^: cheerio pip pip and packet of crisps.
Bolly.
